  1. I'm in Adelaide and I would be interested. Could you add me to the list please? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
  2. My long boots and winter coat. Adelaide is cold and winter is coming again. Dreading it...
  3. renew your passport then fill in form 929 - see link https://www.border.gov.au/Forms/Documents/929.pdf
  4. If you haven't been here for 2 years you will only get a 1 year RRV and you will have to show your ties to Australia by uploading relevant documents - see link https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/155-/Resident-Return-visa-(subclasses-155-and-157)-document-checklist
  5. Glad to see that on this week's New Life in Oz they actually talked about how much it costs to get over here. This never seems to get mentioned on WDU
  6. I suffered badly from ingrowing toenails for years and the pain was so awful that I finally decided to have my nails removed. It was done by a surgeon in a hospital with local anaesthetic and was the best thing I could have done. Couldn't go to work for the first week for fear of people treading on my toes on the tube and closed shoes hurt too much. The toe nails grew back completely normal and I haven't looked back since. I'm just careful now not to cut the nails too short Obviously moving to Australia has helped as I wear open shoes for much longer than I did in the UK. Good luck
  7. I have given our good neighbour the phone numbers of relatives in the UK to be contacted should anything like this happen and asked her if she would look after our children for the time it would take for a relative to arrive from England.

    RRV- wife

We had the same problem and Go Matilda sorted it out for us - they were great
  9. Check out http://www.drivenow.com.au/onewayrentals The hire companies often need their vans relocating and they only charge $5 per day and give you a fuel allowance. The downside is there is normally a time constraint attached plus you can't plan very long in advance. Syd to Mel and Mel to Adelaide are often on the list. I get a daily email alerting me to the availability and as I am in Adelaide I have set it to only tell me about the Adelaide requirements. Might not be what your parents need but it may be useful for someone else The only other thing I have found when hiring camper vans is that Maui are better than Britz who are better than Mighty. The agency I went to said that Maui have the newest vans which get passed onto Britz who use them for a few more years and then they get passed to Mighty. From experience, our Maui hires have always been better than the only Britz one we hired
  10. My kids love Legoland and want to go again when we fly back for a visit. Can't say I miss it much though!
  11. Hi - I had to do this recently, its really easy. Just fill in Form 1359 (link below) and they email the movement records to you https://www.border.gov.au/Forms/Documents/1359.pdf
  12. Bring a copy of your latest UK insurance policy showing your no claims bonus. My Aus insurance company took this into account
  13. Coogee to Bondi Beach coast walk is great and easily accessible by bus both ends. Stop for brunch in Bronte on the way
  14. We have used voovit.com twice now when we just wanted to send a few boxes as it works out much cheaper than excess baggage. You will need to plan and send ahead though if it is stuff that you want right from the start. We sent ours on 23rd June and received it on 25th Sept

    Booking seats

If you book a sky cot for your newborn, you will get the bulkhead row
  16. We validated our PR visa with a 2 week holiday shortly after it was granted but then couldn't move to Australia within the 5 years due to my husbands job. We contacted Go Matilda as our RRV was due to expire 5 months before his new job in Australia was due to start and they managed to get us new RRV which lasted 12 months allowing us to arrive after the initial 5 year period. We had to prove that he had a job in Australia but it was a pretty simple process
  17. We have property in the UK and we have used GM Tax to do both our UK and Aus tax returns - give them a call Have you declared yourself non resident in the UK?
  18. We brought ours over on Emirates as part of our 30kg luggage allowance
  19. Bring proof of your UK no claims bonus - some insurance companies will accept it I believe you have to have an Australian licence if you have PR - I'm sure someone on here will know the rules
  20. I'm in Adelaide - arrived just over a year ago and love it. Its been so easy to get settled and everyone has been really friendly. It's a tough decision to make but if you stay there you will always be wondering "what if....". It sounds like you are doing the right thing with regards to your job and your flat in the UK. Yes it may cost you financially if it turns out to have been the wrong decision but at least you will have given it a go. You've been to Australia several times so you have an idea of what you are getting into. There are people who aren't so keen on Adelaide as it is smaller than some of the other cities but it works really well for us.
