  1. Glad you raised this issue as I have a number of rifles I really want to bring with me when we move. I will be keeping close eyes on this thread.
  2. Jeez I don't even sleep under a quilt in uk. When we go on holiday to the Med in summer I only have a sheet if that due to air con being on.
  3. Our Miele washer is coming with us too still has 5 year warranty on it. Think we will bring the condesor dryer too. I checked with the maker of our treadmill and that too has warranty valid in oz which is cool.
  4. what type of thing is it your sending over as sometimes their are other courier options but you maybe restricted on what the item is etc.
  5. Last time we went out we stayed with distant relatives and they insured us on their car ,The hire car we have booked has a $5500 excess and $200 deposit. They do offer two excess waivers one to reduce it to $400 for a price of $30 per day and one to reduce to $0 for $36 per day. I have been and gotten an excess insurance quote and that came to £18.74 but you still have to pay the hire company then claim it back. at current exchange rates $5500 is a lot to have available should we need it.
  6. Hi everyone, we are due out for feb half term and have booked a car with Alamo through a broker in uk. Can anyone tell me their experience with things such as the extortionate excess etc. Have people taken out third party excess protection or used alamo's own. Cheers steve

    Australia Day.

    Happy Australia Day!
  8. I just double confirmed everything with the branch several times and the migrant team here in U.K. We're great at getting staff in bank to locate cards and make sure they had them in hand.
  9. Yes we too just did it online. The only difference was. I contacted the uk migrant team and asked them to link my account to the branch on hay street nearest to Ahpra office so our bank cards would be there when we arrived. This made it easier for us so we could park car and do both activating bank account and Ahpra in same morning just walking a few hundred meters up the road. If we didn't get our account linked to the hay street branch in subiaco we would had to go to which ever branch they had decided to link our account to in order to collect bank cards.
  10. This should be fun for me when I eventually get to that stage. I travelled with the military a lot, can't remember all of them and a lot did not involve stamping passports as such stamps can stop you getting into other countries.
  11. White mans park is brill, as is a trip to hillarys boat harbour now our favourite place ever. Fremantle markets were good, kings park is a must, I believe there is some open air cinema in the park at the min. Mullaloo beach is amazing.
  12. We opened a NAB bank account from U.K. The migration team had the account linked to the hay street branch in subiaco. We flew out on the Saturday and had appointment at bank for 11am Monday morning to activate bank account. 30 min later we walked out with bank cards and statement with relatives address on ( you can give them any address). We walked a few hundred meters up hay street to Ahpra. My wife presented, signed stat declaration 30 min later all done. Within 24 hrs email received confirming registration complete and on register. Hope this helps we have also just logged on to request cogs from Ahpra to be sent to ANMAC for modified skills assessment much simpler and faster then NMC. Ahpra confirmed cogs sent within a few days. Still waiting on NMC to email that they are processing application.
  13. We opened a NAB account over the phone in U.K. Transferred funds into it using moneycorp. Then a 30'min appointment in branch 2 days after we landed in Perth and account was all up and running and bank cards were in our hands. Then we popped up the road to Ahpra to complete my wife's registration. All done on a etourist visa. We are sending money over again in a few weeks as we are on our way back for holiday in February.
  14. We religiously watch WDU and have thought about applying to the show but they wouldn't want us. We already know we want to go and don't really have close family and friends to cause issues. Also our house is a work in progress so would not be suitable for getting a valuation in. We are off to visit Perth in February half term though to show the kids what it's all about. We can't wait. We do have some awkward decisions to make about the right timing with myself graduating with my masters this year and kids coming up to GCSE age. But like I say with no family issues don't think they would be interested.
  15. I found a company called transferwise. They seem to offer a pretty good rate because they don't actually exchange your money. You pay them in your home currency and they send money out of their foreign account. The money never actually goes international so it's local both ends. The fee was quite small too. Not tried them yet but will consider it.
  16. We are flying out this Friday for a short holiday to present at Ahpra whilst there. Then we intend to submit modified ANMAC skills assessment on our return.

    Gift ideas

Thanks everyone some really great ideas. Think a walk round toys r us wouldn't go a miss. I forget what our kids were into at that age even though it was only 8 years ago. Then again my boy was obsessed with WWE wrestling from age 3 to 10 so that was pretty much it.

    Gift ideas

Thanks everyone, some good ideas. We did ask if there was anything they missed but seen as they have been out there for some 40 odd years they said they have forgotten anything they used to like. The only info I can gleam is they like knorr lamb stock cubes and Kendal mint cake. We are thinking a nice book and teddy would go down well with the kids. Obviously we will be taking them out for dinner while there. We land on Saturday and they already have a big family BBQ planned for us. So excited right now to be honest.

    Gift ideas

hi everyone, we we will be visiting Perth from the end of next week. We are looking for ideas of gifts to take for our OZ host and their children. The children are young about 4 and 1 both boys. Really have no idea. Cheers steve
  21. We are with 3 and going on a reccie end of next week. We spoke to three and they said you can use the phone just like in uk for up to 3 months at a time so it may be a short term solution. You probably won't want a uk number longer then this as most places in Australia will not want to ring a uk mobile number to contact you.
  22. I found a magistrate who is also a lecturer at the university I am studying at. I contacted him and he agreed to certify the colour copies of all the documents I had made for free. I pre printed the required statement from the Ahpra guidance and he just appended his name position date and signature to each document. He also stapled his business card to some of the more official documents. He doesn't have a stamp as no magistrate themselves do or even a registration number. As long as you follow the guidance on the website you will be fine. If if you get documents notarised however this is different to certifying copies as a notary public has to ascertain that the original documents are legitimate and awarded correctly. This is why they charge a substantial fee and most refuse to just certify true copy. Magistrates in England don't tend to charge as they are all public volunteers. If the task is carried out at court they tend to charge a small fee of approx £60 to cover the admin and wages of the other staff supporting the process.
  23. Hi Adam, is there any better rates for a 40% loan to value for first time buyer? regards steve
  24. We have always spoke about our plans to move over past 14 years but only told my mother and sister that we are actually doing it. My dad, brother, grandmother and wife's mom & dad, brothers etc will find out when we finally book flights to go. Don't really speak to family that much. Haven't seen my dad in a couple of years and only text each other couple of times a month. Wife's parents only speak to us when they want money etc so nothing holding us here. Only person I will miss is my grandmother. She's 91 and will take it hard.
