  1. hi yes - I have also been registered in OZ before so mines was really a renewal - I still had to send off certified documents (£5 / document at local lawyers) and letters from all my employers in last 5 years. Then i arranged it all in a display wallet so it was easy to sift through at the australia end. I am going to disput the 3 months - who can get a visa in that time?
  2. Hi all -I have received a letter from AHPRA (after 1 month) stating my Register in Principle letter will be sent and has a 3 month expiry (in which time i need to present to an office)! OH NOO! i thought it was 12 months? can i have this extended as we are in no way ready to move - need to apply for visas etc
  3. Hey hope its not too late to reply Im shipping my pets myself too Call skycargo.com at Heathrow. They belong to Emirates. Were flying with them. They have a great service at Dubau where they let rhe pets out at an animal station for a break and feed/water etc. They were helpful and gave a good quote and tonnes of info... You dont need a transport company if your thorough. Check everything 3 times My vet bill quote was huge though. £250/ cat and £860 for our large dog. Ouch.
  4. Hi - Im currently looking into shipping our German shepherd Dog and DSH cat to Melbourne in 2015. I decided I was going to do it all myself though - its really not all that difficult. You have to make sure you have all the relevant import / export permits and vet checks etc and an air kennel which can be purchased from the airline. There are guidelines from IATA as to the standards of the kennels, however IATA dont approve or recommend any specific make. I had a long chat with a very helpful lady at Emirates SkyCargo.com at Heathrow - they deal with Pets as manifest cargo. They have a great service for travelling animals with a stopover station for pets in Dubai where they are let out and exercised and fed etc before sent onto the forwarding flight. Skycargo gave me a rough quote for booking our animals....it was nearly £1500 cheaper than the quotes I have had from reputable pet shipping agents. The advisor also told me that there is no need for animals to be boarded in local kennels overnight beforehand and they can be brought straight to the airline handler day of flight. Now for the vet bit - I have emailled my vet asking for a quote for all the relevant vaccs and blood checks and form filling etc Next would be to apply for import permits and book quarantine when we know our flights. Flights themselves will be through Emirates and must have a min of 6 hours stop over for a comfort stop. They will also have to be on a weekday and between business hours at the Heathrow end. However, Emirates have said that many people send their animals on the flight before to avoid the 6 hours stopover for themselves. Then they rejoin on the connecting flight. Its not hard - just time consuming and has to be done properly.. But if your organised then you could save ££££ If anyone would like me to keep you updated with progress I am happy to. 6. @Toolbox thanks for replying Does your wife enjoy working there? Do you enjoy life in SA? The only downside with taking 457 from a private hospital is that if you really dont enjoy it, theres not much space for moving departments. Unlike large trusts where you can move over hopsitals or specialties on the same visa
  7. @twinkletoes35 thanks very much for this info and for taking the time to respond - much appreciated and very helpful
  8. Oh i see thanks @Barbie I noticed you did the OET exam and your in England - do you mind me asking why you had to do this? My application (which was the general application as ive previously been registered) stated that tertiary and secondary education taught in English passes as English competency. aw well, if they want more tests from me they can ask
  9. This is the same as the UK - its because of the ageing nurse population. A lot of skilled nurses are due to retire very soon leaving a skills shortage on the wards. With more and more jobs being filled by new grads - who are lovely and all - but the wards have to have an even skill mix. There might be 5 vacancies on one ward, but the NUM would want to see some of those vacancies filled by experienced nurses and some by new grads to have a good skill mix and safe working practice environment.
  10. ANMAC assesment is $330 for the modified (given you have AHPRA reg already) ($900 without AHPRA) PR application £3500 ($6000) - I wouldnt use a migration expert - your a nurse - your clever! by the time youve completed all your AHPRA ANMAC stuff, you should be a pro already! flights £700 ....and all the rest (pets, cars, husbands) its not cheap. but is it worth it.
  11. Got a response from a private hospital "At the moment, St Andrews Hospital will sponsor UK nurses if they have extensive experience in the position advertised. The normal routine would be to send your full CV, cover letter with two clinical references to the Director of Nursing, " GRRREAT!
  12. No I dont think theyre walked at all - see this link http://www.bobinoz.com/migration-advice/bringing-your-pet-to-australia/ "Rule changes by the Australian Government put an end to that which now means… No visits No exercise No treats No idea what the facilities are like inside quarantine No photographs No updates (even telephone calls to quarantine staff are not allowed) No playtime No toys Absolutely no contact whatsoever" scoundrels
  13. wow! how much did that cost you - dont answer if you dont want to - we have 2 dogs and 2 cats ////most expensive 'rescue' animals weve owned lol
  14. Is it taking longer if you trained i the UK do you mean?
  15. How bizarre - i wonder if its better to go straight for a perm residence visa then? opposed to a 457
  16. is there a great shortage of nursing jobs in OZ now then all round? it seems that there are hardly any opportunities although I read a recent newspaper article saying that poor s auzzie graduates werent getting jobs as the employers were too keen on giving out 457s for skill mix as more and more nurses are retiring
  17. hey guys Were emigrating to OZ next year on my 457 visa hopefully Ive previously worked in OZ as a nurse so hopefully AHPRA wont take long. Im a specialist HDU / recovery . surgical nurse Q - where are all the Adelaide nurse jobs though? Theres hardly any advertised and even when you go into employers main recruitment, it states NO vacabcies at present Worrying as Adelaide is where we'd like to move to:frown: PLan B is Brisbane as the Mater there do a lovely relocation assistance package Which leads to my next Q Has any nurse been successful in gaining any relocation assistance in SA? Thanks in advance
  18. Thanks - the stopover time is based on the flights we have chosen - there's only a stopover time of 1.5 hours between them. We were advised to pick flights with minimal time between planes.
  19. Hi Pet air - Were booking flights London to Melbourne with Singapore airkines as they have the shortest stop over time - What happens to the pets in the cargo during this time (which will likely only be 1.5 hours) Who transports them? What if our flight was late from london and we miss the next flight? what then becomes of the animals in the hold? Ta Mogs&Rovers
  20. http://www.ccac.net.au/files/Cat_legislation_SA_UAM95Kelly.pdf Heres the cat legislation for SA xx
  21. DO It....for your peace of mind -and how nice would it be to have your own cat with you in a foreign land option is to take that £2000 and rescue 10 cats over in OZ  IN SA I read they have no cat curfew as this would be impractical to enforce - in Victoria they have a 24 hour cat curfew in some places and cats have to be house cats
  22. What I dont understand is how they can justify $149 / day per cat....then $149 for 2nd cat in same enclosure??? thats the same cost as a dog enclosure.......erm - no ill have 2 enclosures please at that. (whilst were paying less to stay at the local HILTON) Bob in OZ website says they dont walk the dogs as his wife had set up a dog walking business for this problem. Maybe we should protest!!
  23. WOW that was very quick eh!! all the best ! x
