  1. Hi, There seem to be a number of teachers on the forum at the moment so I thought I'd set up an area where we can all share our experiences and ideas, ways to find jobs, where we're settling and what subjects!! Who knows - maybe we can help each other out when we're there!! Any info, questions etc are welcome about teaching!! Cheers teacherben
  2. Ha ha!! Maybe we're different subjects!! I'm gonna set this thread up - question is where? Here or the employment forum?? Good luck with the CO Vanduex, good luck with AITSL tigerstripes, good luck Bissy with the invite, and good luck with the CO coolbreeze!!
  3. As a teacher I got my head teacher to certify the documents that I needed certifying - mainly for AITSL skills assessment. If you know anyone in that position it'll save you a bit - the visa application process is costly anyway!! Also, as abz123 said, they accepted colour scans for my 189 application that weren't certified!! hope this helps teacherben
  4. That's great news Kellie23!! Well done and congratulations...you'll have your grant soon!!
  5. I submitted mine on the 30th October and got invited on 4th November so it does happen fingers crossed for both of you guys!!!!
  6. For what it's worth I did my 189 application on my own. I used this forum for a lot and so many people on here were incredibly helpful! There are agents on here who give advice on PiO for free and they're brill! My application was very straightforward though - it was just me and I knew the points I had were certain. I also knew Police certificate was going to be clean and my medical was all spot on. If I'd had a family I'd probably have used one... A lot depends on finances I guess, but you need to be in a good financial place to be emigrating anyway!! cheers teacherben
  7. Hi jgroot, It's up to you really! I waited until my CO asked because I wasn't in a rush for my grant - it still happened really quickly - I think I got an appointment for about 5 days later. However some people like to front load the medical so the CO has all the info needed to make a decision ASAP. Same with the police check. If you're not in a rush just remember that your date of entry to Oz must be 12 months after the earlier of the Police certificate or the medical! Hope this helps, Teacherben
  8. thanks! It was useful thinking about houses etc over here...but the new one is even better!!!! thanks again!!! teacherben
  9. I had to prove I was on a full time contract for my 189! Do you have a contract specifying that you're employed full time? Or anything from jobs saying full time??
  10. Hi itchyfeet76, thanks for sharing! Sorry I didn't say thanks straight away - thought I had but it didn't post!!! cheers again, teacherben
  11. Ok, no worries! Thanks though and will do!! Not moving until Jan 2015 so got time to save!! cheers, teacherben
  12. Hi LKC, if it's not too personal is it possible to attach the spreadsheet to a post on here?? Would be great to have a look at if you didn't mind!! cheers, teacherben
  13. Out of interest, how are you going about looking for jobs?? Are you registering for QLD only, or are you going to register elsewhere? I'm unsure - I really want to settle in NSW (Southern suburbs of Sydney) but will happily go where I can get a job! Think it's fairly tough to get jobs in the cities...would consider Melbourne or Brisbane areas! I was thinking of applying for private or Catholic schools as you don't need to register for those schools. Do you have any tips etc?? I may start a thread for teachers - there's a few of us on here at the mo!!
  14. Yeah I did! I was really surprised - thought it would take ages. Guess it depends on CO and time of year?? Good luck with it all!!
  15. Great news Vanduex!! Congratulations!! teacherben
  16. Vanduex, I'm a current prop (BMI ~32) and I got my medical no problems! No referral etc and my visa grant came the next day...my grandparents have a history of CHD but it didn't make a difference! This is only me, but mine was fine! teacherben
  17. I got an email from my case officer, with an official letter attached from DIBP! Best email I've ever received!!
  18. A spreadsheet would be really useful thanks ItchyFeet76!! To attach a document, click go advanced when you go to post a reply, and it gives you the option of attaching documents - hope this works!! thanks again!!
  19. Just a heads up - school heads can do document certifying! I got my head to do mine for all the AITSL application. I did on my own with no agent Helynn McCallum - it really isn't that bad as long as you read the advice the Oz government give and this forum - it's brill! If you have any questions, just message me if you want teacherben
  20. Hi Coolbreeze, For what it's worth, I received an email on 3rd November at 13.13 British time, but invite was sent on 4th November in Oz. That would've been 00.12 over there!! cheers teacherben
  21. Personally, I'd just be honest. If you don't put them and then get found out then it could lead to all sorts of problems later on!! As far as I can tell the medical is to find out serious conditions - smaller ones don't seem to be an issue. That's just me though Cheers teacherben
  22. Ozmaniac is right. You need to have a skills assessment when you lodge your EOI. You can't lodge without it - therefore you'll know when you apply whether you have the points or not!
  23. See my signature all medicals and PCC were straightforward but not long at all
  24. Skill select says January 13th and 27th! Good luck mate - let us know how you get on. There seem to be a few teachers on here heading over soon!
  25. Thanks guys!! really appreciate your help - this forum is brilliant!! teacherben
