  1. Thank you everybody who has answered so far..... I'm still open for tips and comments. My husband is applying for a skilled independent visa - I'm his spouse and we have two children. I've found your help invaluable, especially de-mything those thoughts that a visa application has less chance of getting through than an agent-submitted application. We completed a complementary form on the immigrate australia site and a migration company contacted us and confirmed the type of visa we had thought we were applying for anyway, so I feel much more confident in going it alone. I loved the tip to check out pomsinoz if unsure about anything. And for any agents out there - this post wasn't intended to stir up anti-agent feeling, just redress the balance that you are doomed to fail if you don't use an agent. Agents have their place - if I was applying on my own, I would definitely go through an agent, as I was not made for organisation and attention to detail!!!! x
  2. Hi My husband is organised and excellent at paperwork (he's meticulous) so is keen for us to do the visa application without an agent. I am understandably nervous because that majority of people use an agent (and once it's submitted I know that you can't revise/refund). Has anyone out there applied for a visa without the help of an agent, and I would be forever grateful to know any pitfalls/ advice! Many Thanks Alena
  3. Hi there, Again thank you everyone for your advice in advance, this forum is a life saver. My husband has 10+ years experience as an Engineer, developing new technologies. In the UK he's continually being headhunted, however whenever we apply for anything in Sydney he's often given the response "yeah yeah great CV but contact us when you are in OZ". We became so despondent that we decided to spend our life savings trying to get a personal sponsored visa. When we contacted the migration dept, they suggested that it would be a huge effort and expense, and therefore we should get a 457 employer sponsored visa!!! As you can imagine this leaves us in a catch 22, we need a job to get into oz and we need to be in oz to get a job! Anyone have any ideas or advice on interesting novel ways to get past this barrier? We almost considered putting a friend's address in oz on our job application, however we don't really want to go down the deception route! We thought about sending flowers along with our application but that may become quite expensive. We just need to catch a break!! Heeeellllp! :jiggy:
