  1. We chose to live in Balmain and are loving it so far. It has the village feel that you speak of and I can walk home from work in the CBD in the evenings. Loads of good bars and places to eat and you can walk into Rozelle which has much more of that kinda thing too. The only downside is it's not near a beach but it is near the water and has lovely views of the harbour.
  2. I'm working in finance in Sydney. I'm not sure where you are from in the UK but I know that Sydney salaries for what I did in Belfast are significantly better. Maybe that's just Belfast salaries though as you can't compare that to London, for example!
  3. You apply for the 309 and 100 at the same time, it's just a matter of waiting for DIAC for the 100 visa process to kick off.
  4. Hey guys, For anyone that's gone through the defacto visa process and went from temp to perm residence, how long did it take from the temp visa grant until you were granted perm ? The documentation says approx 2 years from lodgement, just wondering if this took the full 2 years for everyone ? Thanks
  5. I've been looking online for gyms in the CBD of Sydney I can use after work that are good value, but I'm not really coming up with anything. Most either don't give prices on their sites or are crazy money with a massive joining fee or long contracts.. In the UK I used Pure Gym which was only 17 pounds a month and had excellent equipment (only a gym without all the pools and fluffy towels etc). Is there anything similar in Sydney that I am obviously missing ?
  6. Also moving to Sydney in January :cute: Looking forward to it
  7. I've had a look on the site for a list of IT specific recruiters in Sydney but nothing pops up... Anyone have something like this? Perhaps you've had dealings with one you'd recommend..

    Rozelle

Anyone live/lived in Rozelle in Sydney ? We have had a good look at suburbs and think this or Balmaine may be the best option... Would be good to know what people think of the area and also what public transport from there into the CBD is like... From the looks of it you are able to get a ferry from Balmaine into circular quay. Cheers!
  9. Seven seas provide boxes also which work out pretty reasonable... ~£400 for ten large boxes door-door...
  10. The case officer contacts you just before you're about to get your grant. You then go offshore (NZ or Asia, anywhere but Oz) and then re-enter Oz with your residents visa once granted.
  11. I have just given two months notice. Contractually it is one however I wanted to give them as much as possible. You're better not burning any bridges if at all possible, you never know when you'll be back or need a reference!
  12. Stressing about it won't help matters, it won't speed things along. Better off just taking it for what it is and wait it out.
  13. No offence, but you weren't exactly quick getting back to them. Why should you expect them to get straight back to you ?

    Form 80

I think it is usually only if you are from a high risk country
  15. Surely once DIAC issues a visa while overseas, they aren't going to turn you away once you land ?
  16. They won't accept forms certified by the post office as I found out myself.
  17. Got my partner visa (309) yesterday  Does anyone know if they actually do wait the 2 years from lodgement before granting the 100 visa ?
  18. Am I right in saying grants happen at the start of the week (mon/tues) ? Seems to be the case from following this thread.
  19. I am moving over at the end of the year with my Australian girlfriend on a defacto visa, so thankfully I don't need to worry about the skills assessment side of things. My background is in trading application support and engineering, and with Sydney being the main financial centre in Oz it has been a driving factor in choosing where to settle. How is the IT market at present in Sydney ? Has anyone on here got any experience within this particular field in Sydney and can point me in the right direction ? The obvious choice would be the ASX but there must be more out there!
  20. I bought my parents an iPad to keep in touch, little things like that will make it easier once I go.
  21. I got the following 4 months into the process: "Thank you for your message and please note all requirements have been met and your visa will be granted around 8 to 9 months after the lodgement date." I haven't heard of them making the decision right at the end of the process - If they have enough evidence I think they know then that you have got it, but have to wait as there are only a certain amount of grants allowed at once...
  22. You usually won't hear anything until the day you get your visa grant...
