Hi guys, does anyone know if I can use my tax file number I had when I was a backpacker in Oz several years ago now that I am moving over on a permanent basis, or do I have to get a new one ? thanks!

Yeah I was thinking it was quite steep... any recommendations for who you shipped with and how much it was ? The bike was £500ish new so I'm talking £300 second hand there.

Has anyone experience of shipping a road bike over to Oz ? I have got a quote of £180 door to door. The bike is probably worth around £300 so I am trying to factor in if it's worth shipping it or selling it and buying one in Oz. Can anyone recommend a good retailer in Oz for road bikes that aren't robbers ? Planning on moving to Sydney but I've heard it's not much use for cycling paths etc.

Hi guys, Strange one here that someone may know the answer to through a similar experience. I am from Northern Ireland and therefore have the luxury of having both a British and Irish passport. I have applied for my visa with my Irish passport but in the future may wish to change it over to the British one (in the event I want to get an Australian passport in a few years and have to give one up). Does anyone know if this is possible ? Thanks!

From what I hear from working in the financial industry myself, Brisbane has only got Suncorp. Most of the financial stuff is in Sydney, eg the ASX.

From checking Seek there does appear to be quite a lot of suitable jobs for Brisbane, but it's hard to tell how saturated the market is. I've added a load of recruiters in Brisbane on Linkedin so will be putting the feelers out closer to the time I move!

I lived in Brisbane before and loved it - I visited Sydney and Melbourne but didn't work there so never looked for work. My gf's parents also live close enough to Brisbane. It's always easier to find a job when you're in a job so it may mean working somewhere for a while then moving!

Hey guys - just curious to know how the IT market is at present in Brisbane, if anyone happens to know ? I will hopefully be moving over in November time and I'm currently in a good job in the UK, however there is no option to transfer so I'll be trying to gain something new once I get there. My background is in application support and IT business analysis in the financial sector.

I contacted the CO as I hadn't heard anything for a while after doing medicals. the CO is SV, she has been helpful so far!

We heard recently we had met all requirements and our visa would be granted 8-9 after lodgement! We lodged in February... very happy :biggrin:
