  1. Well, I am...... But I'm asking for other's experiences of doing this.
  2. This is a question for anyone that has bought a property in Australia then returned to the UK and kept it as an investment property. Were you up for a big tax bill each year? As a foreign resident you don't get a tax-free threshold, so any rental income will be taxed.Did this along with any land tax make it worth your while, minus any deductions such as strata/loan interest etc? The aim would be to move back into the property down the track.
  3. You've been here for 7 years and you haven't met anyone on that list? How's that possible?
  4. NXT did express their view that the changes shouldn't be back dated and only put in place from when this becomes law.. So does this then mean people who meet the CURRENT requirements and lodge before it becomes law will be approved ? Eg: in my case where I have had PR for 2 years and will have been in the country for 4 years at the end of the year.
  5. 5 months for me. This is BS. Hopefully they make it that it's only for new PR applicants.
  6. This would be the ideal scenario. Have you seen anything to indicate this will happen, or is it just your personal opinion ?
  7. Newjez.. what you have said makes no sense. I suggest you go and look at a map. Speaking as someone from NI the idea of "giving NI back to Ireland" is both delusional and stupid.
  8. I lived in Chiswick for a year and a half until July there. It's a nice enough area but there is literally nothing there beside the apartment complex except for a convenience store and an Italian restaurant, albeit a very good one. There are frequent buses and ferries to the city if you want to go for a night out but it gets old after a while. As already mentioned check out Rozelle/Balmain, Glebe, Neutral Bay. Northern beaches may be worth a look too, Manly etc?
  9. 140k is a very good salary in Sydney, never mind the rest of Oz.
  10. There's plenty of places to park for free within a ten minute walk of the wharf. 6 bucks per trip with a smartcard.. getting the bus is saving like $1.30. What boarding process ? They're every 10 minutes so there aren't any queues.
  11. The fast ferry leaves every ten minutes in peak hour and takes 18 minutes... By far the best option.
  12. I moved to Manly this week and went to see a lot of different properties over several weeks in my search. I moved in with someone else on an existing rental so wasn't looking for a new lease, but the vast majority of places I went to were run down and needed updating. The bedrooms are generally small and the apartments don't have the facilities that you'd get if you went for a more modern building. There are nicer places but you will pay good money for them. The location is what makes it though.. IMO the best place to be in Sydney. Fairlight would get old pretty quickly walking up that hill everyday and you're out of the action a bit.
  13. All I hear about the apartments in Zetland is that they're really poorly made and falling apart. Cheap to buy for a reason.
  14. The national park to the south is great for a drive. Maybe better in summer but Wattamolla beach is a cool spot/very scenic.
  15. They've brought the lockout into Newtown too now which is BS as it will just push people further and further out of the city. They are really shooting themselves in the foot with this legislation.
  16. This isn't so much about drunken violence as it's the prime real estate in Kings Cross... People can't/don't go any longer, clubs shut, sell to property developers for cheap and up go a load of apartments. Funny that the Casino in Pyrmont and the new casino opening soon in Barangaroo aren't in the exclusion zone isn't it... $$$ talks.
  17. check out Chiswick, we pay 600 for a 2 bed to give us more room but there are 1 beds going for just over 500 I think. Really nice place with big outdoor pool/indoor pool etc. 30 minutes into the city from the ferry at the end of the street.
  18. Hey - have a look around Balmain- similar sort of vibe to Surry Hills and not far from the city/good transport links. You'll get a nice 1 bed flat for that much per week!
  19. Wattamolla to jump off the waterfall Camp Cove Balmoral Little Bay Bronte Bilgola
  20. The IT industry is built upon having work experience. Unless it's a completely entry level role, of course.
