  1. Put my hubby on a plane to Oz! I follow with kids in 5 weeks.... So real now....
  2. Each CO is different, some ask for stuff sooner, some tell you if you are going to get PR, and others just say 'we have what we need, I'll be uiin contact in a few months'. We had no contact from our CO once she had what she needed. About a month after Visa was granted she returned all our stuff. Others have had there stuff returned before granting. So don't worry what others get told or asked for. Good luck with the waiting
  3. There are alot of stands that are a waste of time, but if you need specific info, it's a great place to get it. But I really would say be there EARLY! and book in advance, when we went we stood in the queue for 2 hrs, there was a queue for those who hadn't booked with ppl waiting all day, and they were turned away. I think they have a bigger venue now, as they really weren't expecting so many to turn up that weekend. Overall we were in for about an hour, but came out with all our answers and more, so was worth the trip.
  4. Our shipping company's insurer has 2 levels of insurance, Total Loss, which only covers the stuff if the whole consignment is lost (eg boat sinks), and the full insurance covering for damage within the container. (This is my understanding of it anyway.) The total loss is 1% cheaper. But looking at the frequency of claims, I think getting the full insurance could be worth it if you have any large items, like a fridge, freezer, table, bed etc.
  5. See if you can get tickets for the working abroad expo (book them in advance, and get there early). They have a stand from Aust. House, and they can give you the advice on which options are available and which would best suit you. There are also recruiters, which may lead you to sponsorship. I went 18 months ago and got all the questions we had answered in person, and all the questions that we didn't know we had were answered too. The next one is on this weekend. Worth a look if you are serious about going, you never know where it might lead you! Good luck :wubclub:
  6. Booked our freight company, woop. one more box ticked. Found a suitable long term tennant to rent our house, double woop
  7. That may be times for other offices such as the Asian/Mid-Eastern Office, not sure off top of my head where it's based, but theree is a thread on here saying they are 12-13 months waiting for grants.
  8. Your grant letter will have a final entry date on it. It is 12 months after the issue of your police cert or medical, whichever was issued first. My hubby had his medical on 11 July 2012, his final entry date is 11 July 2013. his police cert was issued about the 15th July 2012. CO's are not requesting these items on application, rather asking you to wait a couple of months before getting them, to give you a longer window in which to travel/emmigrate. Also you only need to enter by the date to activate your visa. You can then return to the UK. I think in this case your visa is valid for 5 years, at which point you need to get the return resident visa. (I'm not 100% sure of this part.) I hope this has answered your question. Good luck with getting your application in, and good luck with the waiting, that is truely the worst part
  9. stats are only numbers on paper. they only count those who have left a note, or done it in a way that is obvious. They don't include all the people who have been involved in car accidents, single car with one passenger hits tree?!? We can talk about rates and rises all we like, but at the end of the day the only thing we can do that will actually make a difference (in my opinion) is to be there and support those around us, weather they are working or not, have kids or not, are young or old.... You never know what others are thinking, so be supportive irrespective of how they appear.
  10. I would think that in some jobs you would be last in line for time off at christmas. Once you've worked 12 months you have shown a dedication to the job, and would also be less likely to be the last one in. For eg, if you worked in Tesco, and had only been there 3 months, you would be much less likely to have christmas off, where as the person who has been there a year is more likely to be allowed 2 weeks at christmas. The place has still got to open, where as you can have holidays at a quiet time. I think it woulld depend on your job.
  11. lol, the ss dates are set to 6 months, you would need to add 60-90 days to it to bring it to the 8-9 months date. looks like your CO grants closer to the later time, bummer.
  12. All I could suggest is to look at the spreadsheet and see how your CO has been granting. Read the thread here and keep an eye out for your CO.
  13. They are granted in the chronological order in which they land on your CO's table. the thing with it is that some CO are faster than others, some have holidays (during which none are granted), some are off sick (falling behind on grants). Some grant for time in advance (as AB did in the first week of dec.) I had a CO who had 2 holidays and was off sick during our 6 month wait. had I not called her when I did, our grant wouldn't have come until early Jan, which would have been almost 7 months. It's the luck of the draw as to which CO you get. It will come.
  14. I went to Duncraig high (DSHS). It's a fab school, and good for maths and science, and also english. I have a good friend who went to Warwick high, and she has done very well. Alot would choose warwick for it's sports, Netball is a big sport for girls and some of the WA state team have come from warwick. Boys sports are also good there. Have you looked at the school comparison site? It is easy to see which schools perform well in different areas across different classes. http://www.myschool.edu.au check the naplan results for the school of choice, green is above average, red is below.
  15. My mother had a collection of teapots which she brought from Oz to Ireland, I now have the joy of deciding weather to bring back 300 teapots??? maybe I'll bring 30???
  16. She is 1 yr younger than my oldest. We are moving to Perth in July, once we have finished the school yr here. We plan to let the kids have their holidays as they will still be enrolled in school here, and start them in school in September. From my research, my oldest will go into yr7 for the remainder of 2013. So Your daughter is 11 months younger, so she will be going into yr6. "From January 2008, children must be six by 30 June in the year they enrol in Year 1" from http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/about/enrolling.html So from that it looks like she will go into yr6 for 2013.

  18. Fantastic, so so happy for you! such a huge relief once it arrives. Now you can go about heading to sunnier shores, good luck for the journey
  19. took the 5 kids to the local pool, and started teaching them how to swim/have confidence in water.
  20. Have you phoned your CO? I really think that phone call makes a huge difference to getting it granted. It is very unfair how some CO's are well ahead while others are so far behind, I feel your pain and frustration. Hopefully you'll have it very soon.
  21. we have got: £1137, for packing, transport, customs clearance, delivery and unpacking 150 cubic feet with PSS €960 for door to door, customs clearance and AQIS fee for 100 cubic feet with Nat Ross €1198 door to door, for 100 cubic feet, customs not included, with ARPIN €1483 door to door, 100 cubic feet, with Hanley Storage Ltd, no mention of customs or AQIS €883 wicklow depot to door, 100 cubic feet with Hanley Storage Ltd, no mention of customs or AQIS We aren't bringing furniture or household goods, as most of our stuff is in a state of disrepair (due to 5 ever growing bundles of energy, aka my darling children ) We are going with the idea that if it will need replacing in the first year, it isn't coming. The children are being given 20kg bag, and 6kg carryon, and 1 box for toys. I figure if they work together they will figure out how to bring what they need and want, as the oldest doesn't do 'toys' and they all have communal toys like lego. I have going immaginary shopping and got all the household stuff we need (dishes, pots, kettle, cutlery, etc) from K-Mart and Target for surprisingly small amounts. We plan on using camp beds until we are better set to get nice beds. Also getting all our bedding there, as they have different sizes. I grew up in Perth and still have duvet covers from when I was small, and I have never seen them filled by and Irish duvet in 20 years! Hope this is helpful.
  22. Thanks for all the advice I rang travel agent this morning, Guy I spoke to, spotted the problem and decided to deal with it rather than refund and let me book again to have same prob again. He spoke to his supervisor, and it turned out that the flights i was booking were BA from dub to london, and the malaysian the rest of the way. BA and malaysian don't have an 'agreement', so i couldn't book them all together, depite them being offered together. The nice guy then did a manual booking for me, and got back to me within an hour to confirm my flights were all booked and I had all my tickets ready to be printed. Not often you get a helpful customer service rep. He even left me laughing as I asked him his name and he spelled it 'M for mike, A for a55hole....'
