  1. Put my hubby on a plane to Oz! I follow with kids in 5 weeks.... So real now....
  2. Each CO is different, some ask for stuff sooner, some tell you if you are going to get PR, and others just say 'we have what we need, I'll be uiin contact in a few months'. We had no contact from our CO once she had what she needed. About a month after Visa was granted she returned all our stuff. Others have had there stuff returned before granting. So don't worry what others get told or asked for. Good luck with the waiting
  3. There are alot of stands that are a waste of time, but if you need specific info, it's a great place to get it. But I really would say be there EARLY! and book in advance, when we went we stood in the queue for 2 hrs, there was a queue for those who hadn't booked with ppl waiting all day, and they were turned away. I think they have a bigger venue now, as they really weren't expecting so many to turn up that weekend. Overall we were in for about an hour, but came out with all our answers and more, so was worth the trip.
  4. Our shipping company's insurer has 2 levels of insurance, Total Loss, which only covers the stuff if the whole consignment is lost (eg boat sinks), and the full insurance covering for damage within the container. (This is my understanding of it anyway.) The total loss is 1% cheaper. But looking at the frequency of claims, I think getting the full insurance could be worth it if you have any large items, like a fridge, freezer, table, bed etc.
  5. See if you can get tickets for the working abroad expo (book them in advance, and get there early). They have a stand from Aust. House, and they can give you the advice on which options are available and which would best suit you. There are also recruiters, which may lead you to sponsorship. I went 18 months ago and got all the questions we had answered in person, and all the questions that we didn't know we had were answered too. The next one is on this weekend. Worth a look if you are serious about going, you never know where it might lead you! Good luck :wubclub:
  6. Booked our freight company, woop. one more box ticked. Found a suitable long term tennant to rent our house, double woop
  7. That may be times for other offices such as the Asian/Mid-Eastern Office, not sure off top of my head where it's based, but theree is a thread on here saying they are 12-13 months waiting for grants.
  8. Your grant letter will have a final entry date on it. It is 12 months after the issue of your police cert or medical, whichever was issued first. My hubby had his medical on 11 July 2012, his final entry date is 11 July 2013. his police cert was issued about the 15th July 2012. CO's are not requesting these items on application, rather asking you to wait a couple of months before getting them, to give you a longer window in which to travel/emmigrate. Also you only need to enter by the date to activate your visa. You can then return to the UK. I think in this case your visa is valid for 5 years, at which point you need to get the return resident visa. (I'm not 100% sure of this part.) I hope this has answered your question. Good luck with getting your application in, and good luck with the waiting, that is truely the worst part
  9. stats are only numbers on paper. they only count those who have left a note, or done it in a way that is obvious. They don't include all the people who have been involved in car accidents, single car with one passenger hits tree?!? We can talk about rates and rises all we like, but at the end of the day the only thing we can do that will actually make a difference (in my opinion) is to be there and support those around us, weather they are working or not, have kids or not, are young or old.... You never know what others are thinking, so be supportive irrespective of how they appear.
  10. I would think that in some jobs you would be last in line for time off at christmas. Once you've worked 12 months you have shown a dedication to the job, and would also be less likely to be the last one in. For eg, if you worked in Tesco, and had only been there 3 months, you would be much less likely to have christmas off, where as the person who has been there a year is more likely to be allowed 2 weeks at christmas. The place has still got to open, where as you can have holidays at a quiet time. I think it woulld depend on your job.
  11. lol, the ss dates are set to 6 months, you would need to add 60-90 days to it to bring it to the 8-9 months date. looks like your CO grants closer to the later time, bummer.
  12. All I could suggest is to look at the spreadsheet and see how your CO has been granting. Read the thread here and keep an eye out for your CO.
  13. They are granted in the chronological order in which they land on your CO's table. the thing with it is that some CO are faster than others, some have holidays (during which none are granted), some are off sick (falling behind on grants). Some grant for time in advance (as AB did in the first week of dec.) I had a CO who had 2 holidays and was off sick during our 6 month wait. had I not called her when I did, our grant wouldn't have come until early Jan, which would have been almost 7 months. It's the luck of the draw as to which CO you get. It will come.
  14. I went to Duncraig high (DSHS). It's a fab school, and good for maths and science, and also english. I have a good friend who went to Warwick high, and she has done very well. Alot would choose warwick for it's sports, Netball is a big sport for girls and some of the WA state team have come from warwick. Boys sports are also good there. Have you looked at the school comparison site? It is easy to see which schools perform well in different areas across different classes. http://www.myschool.edu.au check the naplan results for the school of choice, green is above average, red is below.
