  4. A few from wilsons prom from march 2017
  5. Yes indeed, i posted a thread about it and others added to it. I couldnt fault them, it was perfect for us, although might want to check your pricing, where are you going to /from. Ours was 890 door to door from the midlands to outer melbourne. https://www.pomsinoz.com/topic/175186-movecube-ala-tetris/
  6. We live a bit futher out and get the train from Seaford, which is about 50minutes on the express. You can rent and buy for those budgets at the moment, but obviously you commute time increases. You could start there and work back up the trainlines from frankston & Cranbourne and check out prices on realestate.com.au to see where meets your budget and time requirements.
  7. Hi, we've been in melbourne for nearly 2 years and dont regret our choices at all. I work in IT as a project manager for a large multinational. My wife now works part time now both kids are in school. to answer some of your questions For the people who live or have lived in Melbourne, do you find it family orientated? - Absolutely, plenty to do as adults and with kids, lots of sports / extra activities for the family to do together or on their own. - my daughter (8) does dancing (Ballet/Jazzz/Acro) 2 nights a week and Saturday morning, my son (5) did Milo cricket this year, and is currently doing auskick (into to AFL) and loves both of them. We also spend a lot of time on bikes (lots of bike paths on and off road) and at the beach. We have also got into Standup Paddle boarding and Kayaking on the bay. Theres also plenty of less physical activities to keep you going as well Do you find it safe? Yes, never any problems in the city, at home or out and about day or night. Do you have a good work life balance? Leave work at a reasonable hour etc if you work in an office? Yes - i still work on client site most of the time, but generally have worked in Melbourne CBD. I've also worked in Sydney, meaning being away from home, but thats the exception. As a rule i am home usually before dinnertime and definitely before bed, which was unheard of in the UK when i tended to be in a hotel 3-4 nights a week. Sharing the family meal is a big positive for me. I take the train usually into work, and need to be at the station by about 7:15 to get a parking space and am at my desk 50 minutes later. (that will probably change with the next project, but thats the nature of the work rather than melbourne/australia. leave between 4:30 and 6 depending on the day. I've also run projects remotely in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth which means working from home, and given the time difference sometimes you can play that to your advantage. Enjoy the weather? I am from the UK so anything is an upgrade haha! Definitely, cold at the moment, but not cold in the UK cold. Summers are great, hot but dry so not sticky and horrible, although walking out of the office when its 40 degrees in a UK wool suit is not something to you want to do very often. Do you own a swimming pool is it worth it with the weather? you'll get various pov on this. We own our house without one, but its on the list to get as soon as we can. A boon in the summer to cool off and with kids to entertain it can be a no brainer. If its heated you could use it year round, but that'll be a personal view. Do you enjoy doing things as a family around melbourne? Lots of parks and things to do with the kids? - yes as above. Plenty of kids playground and activity centres plus access to sports and events is better and usually cheap/free for kids.
  8. Having lived in Melbourne for nearly 2 years now, i can confirm it doesnt get old, and sometimes you have to pinch yourselves that its real, other times its just the new normal and you have to be careful not to take it for granted. Having been back to the UK for Christmas, it just reinforced that the decision was the right one and we don't regret it for a second. We have 2 young kids so elected to be closer to the beach, originally in seaford and now in Langwarrin. Oh and Richmond? Really. All brits should support St.Kilda, they are the plucky underdogs that we all love.

    Suits

Any recommendations for suits that aren't too expensive? Even fairly mainstream ones seem to be $$$. I've been sticking to Next and M&S online delivery but having to pay for returns is a pain if the sizing is wrong, and my sizing does appear to be different now! I can order a decent suit from Next/M&S for $250 and doesnt appear to be anywhere locally that can come even close to that. Based in Melbourne if that makes a difference.

  14. echo what everyone else has said. We arrived Aug15, and our 7 year old was into school in September. She loved it, and fitted in really well. It made for a nice adjustment and allowed her to see how the school functioned and start making friends, which then led to play dates and more importantly a circle of parents that could help with babysitting! Our youngest started kinder in the Jan and it was a long time for him to wait. My wife enjoyed the time with him, but at the end of it they were both ready for him to start.
  15. I used Movecube and sounds like it would be ideal for your needs. Certainly cheaper than a container. THere have been some stories on here about shared containers and having to wait quite a while for them to fill before shipping occurs, but research and work out exactly how much you need is the first thing to sort out. My thread about my experience is here:

    Cranbourne East

and the current cranbourne train line is singltrack for parts of it so cannot carry enough trains to be a realistic commuting option.
  17. Agree with NicF - particularly tools and garden implements, all the forks, spades, other crap you collect I sold off drills, angle grinders, plastering tools, all sorts. My rationale was that it was too much hassle to clean. I brought my drill, toolbox and my dads stanley socket set. The amount i left/sold/dumped makes me shudder. I can and did buy new stuff, but the cheap stuff that you get to get by with is a false economy and is rubbish. The quality end of the market are so much more expensive to replace than bringing what you have.
  18. thats what happened with me - i transferred with the company, and in reality i transferred from one payroll to another. It was treated internally as a new contract though, and although they recognized my continuous service in terms of time at the company, it didnt translate to any accrued benefits.
  19. or you could post the flight times here and see if someone wants a free flight???
  20. Hi - yes not problems at all, been here 2 years in August, other than me bringing it up in the medical it has never come up. In fact, i haven't given my AS a 2nd thought since being here. Whether its psychological or something in the water!, havent had a flare up or pain that i can recollect since being here. We are definitely more active, what with my Kayaks, Paddleboards and part of a running group so that obviously has a contribution.
  21. Good luck - will follow with interest How much stuff do you have? 515 pm seems like a lot - theres a place near me that does 55m3 for 240pm but i guess the parking may chew a fair chunk of that. Do you have/will you have insurance for all the stuff in storage?
  22. The only advice i can give is to lay it on pretty thick in your statement to Victoria. We just did a fairly minimal amount the first time and it got rejected. 2nd time had pages of evidence, statements, evidence of jobs i could do, contacts i had made, visits, friends blah blah blah. It was incredibly tedious and i didnt think it was a good use of time, but it clearly did the trick
  23. Hi, we went for 190 sponsorship for victoria with only 60 points. It wasnt difficult per se, but needed a more thorough attempt and submission. However they made the decision in 8 working days, which was pretty good. Not sure if the criteria changed, but i think they also suspended sponsorship for certain occupations for a while to help ease the backlog.
