  1. this and Omar Khans, although i seem to remember it being a little pricey.
  2. probably not the best idea to wear my uk standard issue pure wool suit either.........
  3. apparently 35 degrees outside the office now. might have to walk to flinders st tonight without a coat!
  4. 35.2 in Melbourne city at the moment, and my wife tells me that its 34.3 in the garden down on the bay... looking forward to the train tonight!
  5. as mnetioned, a vpn is what you need. anything decent or reliable is not going to be free, but around a fiver a month is more than enough. you'll also need a reasonable net connection as it will be a bit slower..
  6. Exactly the same for us. I also got them to confirm in writing and so have a letter from Legal & General stating that as long as we continue with the premiums we are covered wherever we live in the world.
  7. If your desperate, you can come and look after our kids and we'll go out for the day!
  8. depends on the size, but should do. We were surprised how much fitted in, and on the collection day were running around to throw additional stuff in because we had so much room. Best advice is to measure out on a spare piece of floor and pile it up. You'll soon get an idea of what you'll get in.
  9. we didnt have any problems, and nor did the wife who is currently unemployed. brought our handsets with us, and opted for optus $50pm sim only - gave us unlimited minutes, texts (including international), 300 international minutes and 8gb data per month. Worked well for us, and the international minutes have been golden.
  10. Agree with all the above. You can manage on a shoestring if you need to and dont make any rash short term decisions. Have you approached your current provider to see if you can get permission to let, so you dont need to change mortgages??
  11. Ours was door to door with Sevenseas, left in a branded trailer, arrived in a branded truck - but we are in metropolitan Melbourne, so might change if you have additional requirements. No mould in sight. - Fridge looked like it took a bit of a kicking, some scratches and a dent at the back, so would appear stuff shifted about a bit in transit... but unloaded it, left it to stand, changed the plug, turned it on, filled it with beer. the beer is cold, so good enough.
  12. The terminal 3 one was the newer/bigger one... so better(?!?) thats the one we've used. It used to get you access to the pool at the terminal one hotel. But that is being upgraded, so was unavailable until end sept. I got the impression that it might be changing ownership (the T1 hotel & pool) so might be different when you get there. T3 hotel was fine and shower well worth it. If you're travelling with kids, you might need to order a few more towels (which they charge for) We've only ever stayed in the T3 hotel and never had a problem. While it was open, the pool on the roof of T1 was perfect and i would certainly recommend it.
  13. Just to throw my 2 penneth in. I found downstairs on the A380 more cramped, claustrophobic and dated. The newest 777 ER's seemed to have more room, felt more airy, the TV and keypad was bigger and newer - just made for a better experience for us and the kids. Might have been the A380 we were on, but it was the final leg from singapore to london on the way back from our activation trip, but after the new 777 felt a bit disappointing. On the final trip to come out here at the end of August, made sure it was the 777ER again for both legs, and it was v nice.
  14. Well turns out it wasnt 79 days plus 7-14 in customs. 68 days after it left, it arrived this morning. (actually cleared customs on the 15th, this was the first day i could work from home to unload) couple of bits moved about so customs had a look, but according to the sevenseas tracker entered and cleared customs the same day, and so far only breakage is a Christmas bauble that fell out of the box as the front of the cube came off. Excellent job, cant fault them. Just need a bigger house for all the crap. fridge in one piece, no mould TV is still there, phew!
  15. In melbourne. Hasnt been too bad, i think we looked at 4 on saturday, and applied for 2 of them, got 1 accepted.. heard nothing from the other. Might be pot luck. It was a bit surreal with the open house 10 minute slots. Had a mob of people coming to view and all look around together. it was a bit hard to take a long time and muse on if it was the 'one' or not. i guess its not as much of a big deal as it would be for buying, but it is a bit disconcerting. We uploaded all our application details onto a 1form account. https://1form.com which made it a lot 'easier' to apply rather than writing out multiple applications, i could just open the house on realestate.com.au app on my phone and click on apply online, submit and your done. You can also pre apply, but they wont look at it until you've made a physical inspection, but once you have you can click the button and your away. Unless of course its through 1 of the agents that doesnt accept it, but in our limited experience this was the exception.
  16. Hard to believe we were driving to heathrow a week ago. Seems like a lifetime ago... have been in our holiday let a week, but been accepted for a long term rental today, to move into in 2 weeks time, bought a car, got the schools sorted. Shopped at Coles, Woollies and Aldi, got phones setup.. And i've been in the office for 2 days so far and seems like i've been here for ages already.. biggest issue was getting from the airport. Had an SUV hired, but underestimated how much space 5 large suitcases, 4 sets of hand luggage, 2 kids and a wife take up!!!!!!!!!!. got it all in, but a bit stressy after a 24hour flight!!
  17. Go get on an airplane. See you in 2 days Australia. Put the kettle on.
  18. Dont recall seeing anything like that, and i dont think there are looking at sponsorship at the moment, however it is a global IT company, so if you have a look at the usual suspects and check out their job boards you might have some luck
  19. Hi My company is currently recruiting for a bunch of HR roles - i've sent you a pm to the specific one.
  20. Getting there Currently have 4 lists on the go for stuff: Sell Give away Charity Bin / Tip most of its done to be fair, the dilemma is what can we get rid and at what point.. Sofa's etc now on a 7 day count down on ebay, lawn was mowed last night and lawnmover taken today etc etc But we will still need matresses to sleep on, plates to eat off until the day we go. Its crazy really, but with everything else going on, this is whats doing my head in... that and i still dont have a letter from HR confirming my new job....
  21. We would have been in oz just over 12 hours, getting off our one way flight that morning. Thats all good, just the ever expanding to-do list first. it seemingly never ends, and seeing that most of our stuff is on a boat, there is still a load of crap in the house...
  22. I had a friend who did a similar role, he looked at: - 341112 Electrician (Special Class) Services and repairs intricate and complex electrical and electronic circuitry. Registration or licensing is required. Current Eligible Visas for this Occupation include 186 187 189 457 485 190 for states NSW SA WA 489 for states NSW SA WA 489 family sponsorship As others have said - talk to someone in the know, at a seminar or 1 to 1 is probably the best approach to crystallise your options.
  23. and for serious issues you could look as critical illness cover etc as part of your life assurance package
  24. On the face of it, that sounds pretty awesome!
  25. I think that you really need to do some ground work research and trawl through companys and see whats there. - even if there are not advertising, approach HR or contact their recruiters through linkedin and offer a targeted speculative CV. However, you are going to need to make a bit of an effort to see what is avaliable In the last 4 minutes on google, i've done a quick search and found in Adelaide adverts for systems administrators at: HP Boeing University of South Australia Raytheon Thales and thats without really trying!
