  1. We chose Melbourne because it had the overall culture and vibe we were looking for - and so far I'd say we made the right choice. My husband and I are massive cafe, bar and food lovers and we are struggling to get to all the places we said we would go before we came, purely because there is so much here! I work in the CBD so we meet up after work and do stuff here and then hubby works in Fitzroy where there are a lot of awesome bars and cafe's, so we tend to go there on a weekend. We are close to some amazing wineries and beaches and the fact the weather changes so much keeps it all interesting. No day is the same for me here! I've been to Sydney with work which was great but seemed very hectic where I was, and I'm off to Brisbane for Christmas so can make some better comparisons then I guess!
  2. That's very helpful, thanks all!
  3. Hey all Back in the UK you had to register with a doctor's surgery to be able to make appointments etc. but I've been told that's not the case here, can anyone please clarify? Is it that you can attend an appointment with any doctor you wish to see and not have to commit to registering with one surgery? I've got my medicare card sorted if that makes any difference! I've also heard the term 'bulk billing' being used quite a lot but again, it doesnt make much sense to me Cheers!
  4. I did the exact same - sold mine on webuyanycar.com and got enough to cover the finance. Sold the husbands car to my boss who was willing to wait until the day before we left
  5. Coming from someone who drove EVERYWHERE in the UK save hopping on a train for a day out maybe twice a year, I am pleasantly surprised at the public transport here in Melbourne. Cheap, mostly on time, clean, really handy for me as it's a 5 minute walk to the station that takes 10 minutes to get to the CBD. I'm happy!
  6. Just to put my two-penneth in We sold ours via auction as a year had gone past and no dice. Sure we got a lot less than we were initially after which meant we didn't have the lovely lump of cash we wanted to bring over here - but we got rid in an otherwise bleak outlook. Did consider renting out but to be honest i didnt like the idea of getting a dreaded phonecall from the other side of the pond to tell me my house was on fire and suchlike (i am one of those 'worst case scenario' types)
  7. Ah great, i don't think I've looked there yet - will check it out. Thankyou!
  8. Hi Nicky Glad to read your story as I have only just recently moved over to Vic and the home sickness has started to kick in! I am currently searching for rental properties over the north/east site and am considering Macleod as a potential (going to scout it out either today or tomorrow). Appreciate it's not as far out as you are but if you can recommend any areas that would be great. We are two twenty something professionals, husband works in fitzroy and i am after something in the cbd but we don't want to live too close to the city as we are in Abbotsford currently and it's not offering the garden and value for money we were dreaming of when we first decided to move over! Happy to commute via train/car up to 40 minutes if needs be Any suggestions would be fab! Thanks Hannah
  9. Hmm ok so maybe the beach might not be the best idea! Quite tempted by the winery
  10. Hi all Husband and I are moving to Melbourne next week (eek!) and it's going to be our first christmas without family Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do as a twosome? I guess the city centre would be pretty quiet, so would the beach be a good option? Cheers!
  11. Hi all Husband has had a lot of interviews and landed a job as a software developer, flights are booked for 4 weeks' time. I, on the other hand, am worrying a little as to whether I will find work or not. Most roles advertised seem to be for HR Manager level - whereas my background is more remuneration & benefits (specialist) and generalist HR (Coordinator/Admin level) Has anyone else experience of picking up a HR role in Melbourne? and do you have any suggestions for job hunting? Thanks! Hannah
  12. We rang at midnight UK time, which is their 9am and presume were literally the first people to get through. Before this time they were shut
  13. It worked! Our information was all lodged and they just hadn't got round to process it yet. Logged in this morning and we have a grant! Just waiting for our agent to call and tell us something we now already know. Happy days [emoji16]
  14. Haha well hopefully it makes her get a move on and then it's only better for you! We have decided to stay up tonight and call the Aus team ourselves too now - might get a proper answer on what's going on!
  15. I would be mad as well!! Think we are going to give our agent a couple more days and get onto them again - we pay them enough! [emoji36]
