  1. Yes. You get a whole set of paperwork to fill in. There is a section on detailed contents
  2. My two penneth.... If you want to work in financial markets in Aus you are pretty limited to Sydney, and to a lesser extent melbourne. I live and work in Melbourne for a Global IT company who are still recruiting, predominantly in Mel, Syd, Canberra, Adelaide & Brisbane (nothing in Perth as far as i know) (our competitors are doing the same), I was lucky in that i worked for the same company in the Uk and following a speculative conversation with the South Pac Ops director they transferred me. Between this though, I trawled the net, and company websites and their profiles on linkedin to directly approach people with a speculative CV. This yielded genuine results and interviews as well as an offer. I only used Seek as a route to see which companies were recruiting. Currently on our website there are 84 Australia based roles that are publicly advertised... Including a couple of networking roles (although these are Sydney & Brisbane). I work on a client site in the CBD in Melbourne and the pom next to me works F/T for a contracting company, although they specialize in testing, and they are crying out for people. So there is work, if you know how to find it, and taking a chance by sending off a decent CV to a bunch of people even if they are not actively advertising does pay off. As for the comment that alot of the kit and approach is a few year behind cutting edge, this can be true, but it also means opportunities to get involved in upgrade and transformation projects, which is partly why i got the job i did.
  3. Ours took 68 days between pick up and delivery. It actually cleared customs over a week previously, approx 60 days. When then phoned to arrange delivery this was the first date i could do, there was no mentino of storage charges so i think they are pretty flexible. However if you want them to hold it for multiple weeks it might be more of an issue.
  4. Yes you will - assuming you "can satisfy the processing officer that you have substantial business, cultural, employment or personal ties of benefit to Australia" you shouldnt have a problem. You might not get it issued for 5 years, probably a year.
  5. We told our buyers / viewers / estate agent that we were moving to Aus, partly so they knew we were serious, but also made it clear that we needed as much cash from the sale as we could get to setup life abroad (not quite true) and that our estate agent would continue to market until the right price was met, whether we were here or not. In terms of timelines, our house went on the market on 20/06/2015, got an offer for the full asking price on 27/06/2015 which we accepted. We finally got the phone call confirming completion literally as i pulled into the car park at Heathrow on 25/08/2015 on our way to Melbourne...
  6. Indeed - as long as it is clear and tells someone, what you have done and you can offer and if you can add specifics thats great - i did X and that helped the company do X / get X / save X - I have 3 versions, 1x UK, 1xUS, 1xAUS and they all are the same format containing the same info. all that changes is the spelling.

  8. we brought our American fridge freezer without issue, just swapped the plug. As noted above, it didnt fit in the alcove in the kitchen, but we used the one we got when we first arrived for that. It fits nicely in the laundry though and allowed plenty of space for beer and ice cubes..
  9. or bring a 4 way UK extension lead(s) and change the plugs on that (those)
  10. I seem to remember there were some rough estimates from NBN in 2013... found something here: 2) City cost per linear metre is at $25-$30 3) Less than 50 Km from city $50-$60/linear metre 4) Rural area $100-$110/linear metre Even if you had the money, there would probably be some overheads for a one off as well. Good Luck, be interested to see if you pursue it and how much it costs you!
  11. PlanetIT are taking people on at the moment.. Based in Melbourne southbank, the guy across the desk from me contracts via them Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  12. The electricity is the same, so you can swap the plug / use an adapter and your good to go. TV won't pick up channels, but you can use with a freeview/ satellite box etc Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  13. Indeed, but unless the UK pulls out of Europe (unlikely) or gets a veto on freedom of movement (even more unlikely) this isnt going to change. but then adds fuel to the fire of our no regrets about leaving.
  14. We arrived in Melbourne a little over 3 months ago with about £12k/$25k but i had a job to go to... via a company transfer, so didn't miss out on a single paycheck. Most of its gone now, but went on a rental, 2 cars (each about 8 years old) plus sofa/fridge/beds etc. We didn't scrimp and got stuff as we needed it. As long as you manage your budget and know whats going in and out you should be ok. We did work out what we would have in $$$ and worked out the big ticket items so we needed in advance (inc inital rental costs) so that we knew we would be ok
  15. Is that due to hayfever? Have found Melbourne to be oppressive at all. Tend to go out at about 6am or after about 7pm for my runs, except for the the 8am group on a saturday and usually pretty pleasant other than the damm flies.
  16. I can understand that - especially at lunchtime - in the uk i used to live on Tescos/Sainsburys meal deals, whereas here in the city you wont get much for $6... although i think the quality and variety are better. Also encourages me to bring my own lunch which is generally healthier than picking something up.
  17. Another vote for the emigration group. Couldn't fault them - they got us our visa. Yes you can do it yourself, (depending how complicated your situation is) but we found it easier to let them do the legwork. they were upfront with the fees, their's and general application fees, so there were no surprises. in terms of cost, think we came in at about 8k all in.
  18. not sure if timelines have changed significantly, but i applied for my 190 on 14/07/14, and it was granted 24/10/2014. yes the wait is excruciating...
  19. This! I currently live about 1.5km from the train station. Walk that and back every week day and about 1km from flinders street to the office. In the Uk i was much more in the car. Out with the kids on our bikes and swimming in the sea at weekends. Used to run in the UK, but have joined a running group here and am out more often at a greater pace. Eat a lot less crap, and more lean green food. The result, lost 10kg in just under 3 months since arriving. 'Feel' better (however subjective that is), sleep seems to be longer and better quality. Although the possums jumping off the fence onto the bins still wake me up.
  20. If you cant get 60 points you could look into a 190 state sponsored visa to help with the points, looks like QLD, NSW & TAS are currently sponsoring 411211 roles
  21. havent found much difference, just had a quick google and at http://www.slashsport.com/ my latest mizuno's are $139, paid about 65quid when i got them in the UK
  22. We did our reccie at Easter this year. It was hot (not hot for melbourne, but a hot UK summer day) one day and poured down the next. A umbrella / light coat will be fine, but you wont be cold. We used stayz.com.au to find a holiday let and had no bother. Assume you will have a car - remember to plan a few 'holiday' items, we have 2 young kids and had to break up travelling around areas with fun stuff. We looked around areas and went to a couple of house viewings to get an idea of what you get for your money - real estate sales is the same as the uk, the online advert/brochure doesnt really show you the truth. We went around a couple of homemaker centres to cost up beds/sofas/TV's / delete as appropriate to help decide what to ship and what to replace We did a couple of beach days / trip to the CBD (tram/sea life centre) etc for the kids. Remember that it needs to be fun as well as data collecting
  23. We used the move cube from sevenseas. couldnt fault the service and arrived early. If you dont need a full container it is a viable option (or more, i know of one couple that used 2 movecubes and staggered the departure / arrivals) Bear in mind for all the stuff that you want to keep and ship - it'll be on a boat for roughly 3 months, so you need to manage for the last 3 months in the UK, or the first 3 months in Aus or as we did, about 6 weeks each side. This might help plan for if you really need certain things, or would you need them straight away etc forcing you to buy regardless.
  24. Not since 2007 at some little place down the great ocean road... but i have packed my pataks curry club recipe book!!. Just need to source all the ingredients, and find some spare time in the day to create all the bases
  25. Check out my thread - http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/transport-shipping/235966-movecube-ala-tetris.html for a large movecube example.
