  1. Will say being under 30 skilled occupation and native British I'm sure my points were high enough but was told I still needed an ielts average of 8 to qualify
  2. Well there will be a follow up post to this once I have spoken to ielts and the visa company just gonna have to sit tight but appreciate the input sounds promising just hope it is applicable to my circumstances
  3. Well I have been told by a gentle called Paul at the emigration group that I need a score of 8 when going through the skilled occupation list as an electrician. Must say I felt this was a test of my seriousness however I am now as I said in a predicament that I feel my only option is to resit and resit until the stars align and I chance upon an score of 8 as an average. My current score is Speaking -9 Listening -8 Reading-7 Writing-6.5 To say the least I'm furious I work in a hospital and this is where people who are in charge of our health and wellbeing have the most appalling grasp of English and they are also subject to the same test that I have just sat. I will look into the other options I think the added frustration arises from finding out at the weekend and having to wait until 9am Monday to see what options are available.
  4. I need some advice i feel as though im already 6 months behind on my application process as i was advised to sit my ielts as i will be a SOL visa applicant. I done it by the book and sat a pre assesment test to see what skills i could work on were i took their advice and practiced where possible sat the test at a cost of £150 and apparently have come out with an overall result of 7.5 as most of you know 8 is the minimum requirement. I flunked on reading and writing ive never been great at either of these dont get me wrong im not a retard but english reading and writing have never been my strong point im litterally in a state now i feel as though im going to be a prisnor in my own country because of my level of writing. I cant afford to keep sitting test after test on the off chance i get that extra 0.5 which is pretty much the only option i see. Can anybody give me advice on what i can do Ironic thing is got a 9 on speaking and 8 on listening and thought i totally flunked on both. Any pointers heads up or advise would be great its soo disheartening to basically be told you arent smart enough to live in an english speaking country when you were born in the motherland of english language
  5. Well to be fair its more or less $2=£1 im sure if ppl had given me either i could have worked it all out
  6. thankfully i am fantastically stingy so im hoping that will help. we have friends on my wife side who live in Melbourne and have apparently offered to put us up for a bit however im skeptical don't want to outstay our welcome sort of thing. failing that i have access to extra money but i don't want to be the one who flew to Oz then went back hat in hand looking for a bail out. im also aware that some people will go out and be in a mindset that they wont work in any other job except their chosen profession i on the other hand will happily scrub toilets by day and flip burgers at night if it means my money will get topped up and allow me to stay afloat whilestlooking for a job as an electrician.
  7. So im certain that this will vary from person to person but im trying to get a rough idea of what people had in the bank to start them off in their new life down under. My personal situation family of 3 my little girl will be 6 at time of travel we have no house to sell so would be migrating with what funds we have in tje bank which we estimat to be around 10 to 12 grand. This is after plane tickets to Melbourne and as i am traveling out there fingers crossed as an electrician i will need a mode of transportation accomodation a basic tool kit there are a few other biĺls but it would go on for too long . Im curious if anybody knows if 10k is enough has anyone done a move to melbourne on a smaller budget and if anybody knows of anything i might have over looked as a huge financial burden in the first few months?
  8. No thats great news to hear ive already made alot of changes in my life to get me to this position and i want to enjoy every moment of it. Considering doing a video log on youtube for it as theres not really anybody covering a full on permanent migration to Australia which i found a bit annoying as i wanted to see other peoples experiences.
  9. Hi all so after alot of stalling over the last few years have finally started an application to head to Melbourne im just wondering if people have any feedback or suggestions for agencies to use. Brief bit about my application I am a electrician sorta 5 years experience onward with my apprenticeship. as i have a young family this is a permanent migration via the SOL My agent has said that a couple of minor blips on my criminal record should be ok (he has seen the full acro version). so im more or less ready to get on with this and start an official application. I am using the Emigration Group based in Chester frankly google searched and they were within the top 5 results and they proudly boasted about a few agencies they are affiliated with a bit like ABBTA when u book a holiday in the UK. My question is has anybody used them i had a friend who used to work for one of these companies and she claimed alot of people waste money because there's a lot of stuff you can do yourself for free.(although this was possible referring to temporary visas). I have been told this full application is likely to set me back about £10k then i need about that amount i would assume to survive the first few months So im looking at £20k i need to rack up in little over a year. If anybody could provide a semi detailed version of how an agency works for you and if anybody feels they got their moneys worth it would be great. Im more than happy to spend that amount to get me out there but i want to know that where these guys say with a 2 minor charges on a police record and the fact that i have only got 2 years experience prior to completing my electrical apprenticeship they can help me through and then theres this statement they will help find work for you before you go i just want to be sure im not being promised the world and in reality they wont be able to deliver. (Im sorry about the spelling and grammar you will be pleased to know i rank 8 on ielts)
