  1. Thanks for the advice - we have started looking at houses - it's getting real now!!
  2. Hi guys Can anyone help with this question (as I can't find anything on the Etihad website!). We are moving from Manchester to Brisbane on a PR visa in September 2017. We have 42,000 guest miles with Etihad. Ideally I want to use some of these to take an extra suitcase(s) with us but I've been told that we won't know how many miles we need for an extra bag until we book the flight and have a booking reference. We are sending the majority of our stuff over by sea in a movecube in the next few weeks and if I can't use the air miles to take the extra case I will obviously need to factor in sending more stuff in the movecube. Why can't Etihad just state an extra suitcase is 30,000 miles or whatever it is!! Does anyone know the answer? We have a 3 year old child so the idea was to take a suitcase of toys so she has familiar things around her when we arrive - if not it's a 3.5 month wait before it arrives by sea. Thanks!
  3. Will keep an eye on this - also moving to North Lakes area in September with my 2.5 year old and I'm also completely in the dark about schools etc !!
  4. Quick piece of advice! I traveled to Oz on a working holiday visa back in 2001. I am now moving to Oz on a 190 Perm Resident visa in September 2017. I have the letter with my old TFN on it - will this be re-opened or will I need to apply for a new one once I arrive? Thanks!
  5. Great advice! Definitely going to look into getting one or more Movecube's and Kevsan your packing pictures and tips are great!!
  6. Me, my hubbie and our 2.5 year old are moving on a 190 visa from Manchester to Brisbane in September. We are hoping to sell / bin / charity shop the majority of our stuff but still have a few items of furniture, pictures, clothes etc that we would like to take. I think half a container would be more than large enough to fit in everything. My question is does anyone know roughly how much this would cost and also do any firms offer space in a container rather than having to have the whole thing or half?. Also we are thinking of just paying 6 months rent up front once we have found a place - does anyone have any experience of this? Is it the norm if you have no Australian credit history, previous address etc? Any advice would be great!
  7. Thanks for the information. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens (fingers crossed!)
  8. We have lodged an expression of interest on skills select for a 190 visa application to ACT. The official website says they are processing submissions for these dated July so surely they can't just disregard all the submissions that were in before the list changed today (like ours was)!!!. They have taken a $300 for the ACT application fee from our account and the paperwork was lodged on 25/8/16 so before the cut off. I'm hoping its the submission date that counts as otherwise how would states that have a longer processing fee operate? Thanks for the reply
  9. Hi guys We have submitted an application (around 2 weeks ago) for a 190 for ACT under my partners job of Management Consultant. At the time the job was on the CSOL list for a state sponsored visa but its not on the new list published today. Has anyone had any experience where this has happened? Our agent says its fine as it was on the list the day the application was logged. Help!!
  10. Thanks MaggieMay24 - I've just read stories of people entering on a state sponsored 190 and having to have 'check up' meetings every 6 months or so to check that they are still living / working in the state that originally sponsored them. I'm really keen to hear from anyone who has moved from their sponsored state and gone onto to get citizenship without any issues.
  11. Hi all, Myself and my partner are progressing through the visa process (he has just had his skills assessment come back positive). Currently his job is on the CSOL for SA and ACT and he is looking at having around 80-85 points. My question is if we apply for state sponsorship for ACT can we move states once we arrive in Australia? I have read various things about state sponsorship and don't want to do anything that may jeopardise going for citizenship in the future. Some sites I have read say the sponsoring state cannot force you to live there while others say they can cancel your visa if you leave the nominated state. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Ideally we want to be in QLD. Thanks guys!
  12. Hi everyone - been reading all the invaluable information on this site as well as working with a migration agent. I have one simple question I hope can be answered. Our migration agent has said that new CSOL lists are usually published in July. Does anyone know when Queensland is due to publish the 16/17 list and also when it has been published in the past? At the moment my OH job is on SA's CSOL but we ideally want to go to Queensland so may get everything ready in the hope it will be added to the list come July. Thanks!
