  1. Mollie I think that if the property is rented for 2 years capital gains tax comes in to force.. I had a nightmare agent who was 'let go'.. now got another one .. she's ok but still does not send on information.. one of my neighbour's alerts me... and has done so quite often. I want to hold on to my little house for as long as I can ... my situation is different came here to join my partner and still have good and bad days, where I get home sick.. have driven to the airport a couple of times. It's early days... but always imagined retiring in it... don't know whether I could afford anywhere here, not on our wages. Keep your options open .....
  2. Did you find any classes? I move in a weeks time to Nelson Bay area
  3. I am here on a Spouse 309 visa and have medicare, but have been told I have till the end of July to obtain Private Healthcare Insurance or I will be taxed higher? The policies I have seen are so expensive are they worth it. I have paid privately since I have been here and was not impressed. The medicare service in the public hospital was great. Any ideas??? Paying out $300 + a month for something that has more exclusions than services.. seems a waste of money! :err:
  4. I know how you feel Jemma, I am very homesick at the moment, can't secure permanent work in Queensland and so have gone further a field to try my luck. I don't have no immeadiate family here either and some days I just want to board a plane!! It has also put a strain on me and my OH hes Australian and so wants to stay, we met in the UK. Where are you living? I am actively trying to get out more. Well good luck !!!
  5. You have to be living with your partner for a minimum of a year before you could apply for a 309 Spouse Visa and be married, and that would only be a temporary visa for 2 years before it would be made permanent. Read up on the Immigrations website, you would need the visa for about to be married. Good Luck!
  6. Don't forget if you have lodged off shore, you have to leave Australia for the 309 to be issued, so if you do go before the visa is granted you will have to take a trip out of Australia and then re-enter. Y ou could go to New Zealand or Fuji, that would be a nice round off!
  7. Hello there!! Sorry about your job dilemma, I feel the same and on top having problems with my OH but thats another story!!! I know what it is like to go days not talking to anyone. I came here and left family and friend, but was committed, just nearly 6 months on and feel very fed up!! Got some casual work so working Christmas and New Year or I would go mad talking to myself. Will be thinking of you, keep your chin up and never give up!!!:xmas21:
  8. Thank you it felt like a lifetime apart from my OH, but was worth the wait. Good luck to all those still waiting x
  9. Well got my Spouse visa granted last Monday and flew out Tuesday night and arrived in Brisbane Thursday morning and so glad to see my OH after over 5 months separation, its been a real worry, I hate flying especially on my own and the flight wasn't the best. Jet lag been a joke, but slept better last night. I still have to pinch myself to believe I am here. I feel that I am living in a dream, but know it will take time to settle. OH is back to work now, and gives me a chance to have a nap. Good luck to all those still waiting, it is worth the wait!!!!
  10. Blimey, Bracknell!! I liked on the outskirts of Reading just up the road from Bracknell, just spent a couple of days visiting family. It's funny because my parents and I all say how much its changed. The quiet leafy village I grew up in is no more; and until I leave for Oz I am in Dorset, slower pace but by heck the hill I live on is a killer. Things change, we change! A new future for all of us I think!!
  11. Good luck will be thinking of you! You can do it!!
  12. Well done to you both for sticking it out, it worked out in the end!!! The world as truely gone mad, good luck for the future and your return to Oz !!!
  13. Ian Harrison at Letton Percival Liverpool for Marine insurance, much cheaper than most and explains everything you need to know, very professional. Email address is: Ian.Harrison@lettonpercival.co.uk. We have just used the company to send all our belonging to Australia
  14. Fantastic ......congratulations and good luck !!!!!!!!! <3
  15. Hi Lucy, We had 3 quotes and ended up with Pickfords, can not praise them enough, they came today packed up all our stuff and its all gone now. We were not only on a tight budget, but needed to ship quickly as our timescale as changed in the last month due to personal reasons. We only had a small amount to ship in the end. Selling the rest. Shop around and haggle!!!! They are all very competitive, so will reduce. Good luck
  16. No worries will be thinking of you, just let me know when you arrive and were meet up for a coffee, take care of each other it will be worth it!!
  17. I know how your feeling I am here alone sorting out things, as my OH is already in Oz and this is was his choice to go as he was born there, but I wasn't. I am fed up with sorting out things alone rental stuff, freight etc... but I also have a choice. I have decided to give it a go, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I am leaving my grown up children and family, friends and I constantly feel pulled and guilty from both sides, but life is too short and I have witnessed it first hand so many times in my career. So take a step back communicate with your OH, share your worries and think of the future not whats behind you. Big hugs keep us posted and if your going to Queensland keep in touch as I will be there shortly:hug:
  18. I am heading for Bribie in the next month have APHRA letter in hand, need to find work have 3 and a half years post reg in Adult Nursing in the UK, dont mind what I do. Could your wife give me any pointers. Agree Qld healthcare took my details and told to contact them on arrival, and website not encouraging. I also thought about contacting Healthcare Australia agency. Any help would be very much appreciated .
  19. Amazing news Chris, gives hopes to the rest of us waiting !!! Congratulations and let us know how you get on
  20. Dear Gem, thought I was the only one!! My OH is already in Oz and over the last couple of weeks as been having health checks, which to be honest as I am a nurse, as made me worry more, especially the implications if it is bad news .My father is also awaiting scans and medical intervention, so feel so guilty to be leaving the UK imminently. I am here alone, I have about 3 weeks to clear out over 30 yrs of clutter, no vehicle, painting and garden to be sorted. I actually fell in to bed at 2 am!!! Thinking the letting agent was coming, but let me down at the last minute as she has the flu!!! I still have the freight to do, and cancel all the usual stuff. My family sadly do not live on my doorstep, so doing this alone, although a few friends have helped with running me to the tip. I have now finished work and if I didn't keep busy I would go mad. Well enough of my ranting was never good with sleep deprivation. A day at a time, and a list of what you hope to achieve in a day, but don't make it unachievable or it will make you feel worse. Well had better hit the garden, rain is due tomorrow. Keep your chin up and keep us all posted, my thoughts are with you
  21. PollyGirl

    I'm just happy

Never mind here's a Happy Father's day for you!!!!, I didn't get a Mother's day card this year, but my sons took me out a few weeks later and spoilt me rotten. Chin up! Life could be worse, Always look on the bright side of life, da da da da da !!!!!! :jiggy:
  22. Well its been windy, raining, sunny and cold by heck Summer's arrived
  23. My nan used to say it was because of all the astronaunts going into space, 'Cant see why they have to mess around up there, it always upsets mother nature and she then sends all the bad weather!!!' Still can hear her saying it, and don't forget the jury's out on whether we have global warming!!! Althought I can't remember it being this cold in June, will have to go and put a sweater on, as for the rain it's just arrived :skeptical:
  24. Well here in Dorset it is blowing a gale, cold, but no rain yet!!! Have until Wednesday to get this place sorted, going to try and have a bonfire, might have no eyebrows left with this wind, rain is on the way can see it heading from the sea across Chisel Beach. Need some good weather, could some one send some this way please!
