  1. Heck no . I`m a mid - morning kind of person. To wake up around 9.30 - 10 AM, have a breakfast, sit while slowly sipping 2-3 cups of coffee..... after that I`m ready to face the day lol. This ( weekend) luxury ended 6 years ago, when my first one was born .
  2. Hi, I`m in the process of packing and I wanted to take my backgammon set. It has sentimental value, me and husband bough it in Turkey on our travels. It`s all wood, with inlaid mother-of-pearl pieces. There is a clear lacquer on the surface. Anyone tried to ship anything like that and was it a concern for the customs? We don`t ship anything else at all that is made out of wood. If it`s a possibility it might be a problem I would rather give it to my friend than have it destroyed. Thanks .
  3. I felt in a limbo when we waited for the visa for 18 moths ( due to security checks). Didn`t know whether and when are we going, didn`t accept a job offer at a good place because I thought we were moving soon and I thought it wouldn`t be fair to the new employer ( in this, at least, I was fortunately right). Didn`t go for our yearly trip to Europe as always, went instead to Australia for 2 weeks to finalize nursing license..... a lot of our decisions were influenced by the fact that we are not going to settle here in the US. My friend told me that she was really considering that we`ll be gone when she thought about asking me to be a godmother to her youngest, at the end she did and I`m ready to keep sending presents from Australia and keep in touch as I`m supposed to . People at work knew about my plans from the beginning, I was very open with them ( and I needed a reference, employment record etc ).
  4. The only thing that I MIGHT use a relocation agent for would be house rental, nothing else. Could be nice to arrive to the house from the airport and not have to worry about going to inspections and competing with others for the same property.
  5. Why do you want to move to Texas ? That`s not a negative BTW, it`s just that Texas is so huge and it depends on what you are looking for. Where did you think of moving to in Texas? Personally, I dislike the Houston area but job opportunities are great here. Austin is quite nice. Went to Dallas a few times ( BIL lives there), didn`t like it. The Hill Country is pretty but I guess not a lot of jobs around?
  6. They didn`t, quite understandably. The only one that was worse than United ( personal opinion based on my flights within North America) were American Airlines, never again !
  7. Happy birthday Paul :wubclub:
  8. I`m very happy for you. :wubclub: Looks like you`ve settled really well.
  9. As far as I know, only Justice of peace or notary public can certify, we had ours done in an bank where we hold account ( this is in the US) for free. Every bank has a notary on staff, wouldn`t hurt to ask?
  10. Bouncy, you don`t need the whole 10 years to get AHPRA registration, people get registered with far less, I think the minimum was 6 months, or a year. You will need it for the visa application though . Do you have another thing that you can claim points on - age, education? Like this, you could get the ANMAC/AHPRA rolling and apply for a visa with the points they gave you for 8 years of practice. As far as you reach the minimum number of points required, there shouldn`t be a problem getting an invitation to apply. Or walk into your boss`s office and refuse to leave until she gives you that reference .
  11. That looks great, I`ll look into it once we arrive, seems like a great way to meet people and sample international cuisine, what`s not to like?
  12. I liked "Down Under" a lot, especially enjoyed the description of the early explorations and flights . Some parts were hilarious quote " that insect looked like an illustration from Things that will kill you horridly in Australia, volume 19 "
  13. Sorry things didn`t work out. I don`t think you`re getting money back from immigration but you could approach your ex-partner and ask her to give you at least some of it back. I hope things will get better for you soon.
  14. Petal`s suggestion sounds good . Or you could become an author and do it full time.
  15. I know people who travel with insulin and other meds on a regular basis, shouldn`t be a problem, especially if you have a doctor`s note with you. Did she travel such a long distance after she was diagnosed? The flight might throw her off balance a little, have some extra insulin and some hard candy with you just in case. That said, a lot of people fly without ever needing to adjust the insulin dose.
  16. I think it`s a great prank . It`s quite hideous anyway. In my hometown, there was a recent prank and whoever did it is my hero :notworthy:. There is a lookout area that the city had painted by a professional company, took them a month and cost fortune ( no doubt a friend or family member of a townhall member got the job). Overnight, someone painted it bubblegum pink . This is how it`s supposed to look: http://www.sternberk.eu/novinky-ve-sternberku/2299-zelena-budka-slavi-22-rijna-2013-stolete-vyroci.html and here is all new, cheap look : http://olomoucky.denik.cz/zpravy_region/sternberskou-vyhlidku-zelena-budka-nekdo-pretrel-na-ruzovo-20140127.html
  17. Too hot to go out? Never . I went out one time in 50 degrees heat ( in Saudi Arabia), there was a scheduled trip to the desert and I didn`t want to miss it. I ended up looking like a local lol, complete with the long but lightweight black cloak AND a scarf on my head . Drank about 4 liters of water. I`m more careful with kids and I didn`t take them out if the weather was too hot - meaning over 35 degrees or so.
  18. Just want to wish you luck in finding him . What has been done since 2004 when your contacts ceased? Did you/your parents contact the AUS police? And how was his relationship with your family in general? Did he call, message often? Was there any major conflict that might have caused him not to seek contact? There is a possibility that he doesn`t want to be found.
  19. I voted " I don`t know" because I really have no idea what would I do if I was in their situation. I wouldn`t just stop all treatment though, I would want supportive care for him - pain control, hydration..... he could benefit a lot from that.
  20. I am very sorry for your loss. Can`t even imagine what you`re going through right now. Can`t help but want to say that I`ll be thinking of you and your family.

    A flying nanny

This can`t come soon enough . I have to say our 15 hour flight to Australia last year went pretty well, the flight attendants were nice ( Qantas, all male crew) and my kids behaved better than I expected but it would be a nice distraction.
