  1. That woman is out of her mind. I should like to see her entrust the care of her own child to a convicted pedophile or rapist, but of course that won`t happen.
  2. I`m going through this right now. I need both state and FBI checks, this is for permanent residency visa, I don`t know about 187. There is a link on the FBI website that downloads the fingerprint form, in case you wanted to do it yourself ( yes, really, you can). It`s better to go to a police station though and have the fingerprints taken by someone who knows how to do that . Your name and date of birth MUST be on the form, otherwise they`ll refuse it. I submitted mine online this time but as far as I know it is only possible in the US ( via FBI approved office). Here is all you need: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/criminal-history-summary-checks
  3. Did anyone notice in the article a comment made by one of his neighbours " an elderly lady who wanted to remain anonymous"? Quote " They got hot-headed. I could cope with them giving him a beating, but setting him on fire was sick". Are you kidding me? What would make a beating OK in her eyes? Is it his Iranian origin, his lifestyle, his cat???? She is so obviously making excuse for the killers. Not to mention that to kill someone is quite a bit more serious than being hot-headed :swoon:. If this attitude prevails in that particular neighborhood, poor guy never stood a chance. My thoughts and condolences go to his family.
  4. I liked the weather prediction chip and the idea of inviting Japanese to eat the seaweed .
  5. We travel quite a bit and I`ve never encountered anything like that, maybe it`s different because I live here though. I usually pay online for bookings and they take about 60 % of the cost off my card right away as a sort of deposit - in case I didn`t show up. When we arrive to the hotel, they just tell us they charged the rest of the amount to the same credit card. Forgot to say that the 60% is off 1 night cost. Some hotels take 1 night cost off the card as a deposit.
  6. I think it really depends on where you work. As an office worker, you can plan your day ahead and make time for a lunch break. I work in the ER and while I do get a break on time most days, I had days when I crawled to the lounge room for 5 :chatterbox: minutes at 4 PM just to have a super-quick bite before heading back. If your job is such that you never know beforehand what`s coming your way that day, it`s difficult to plan
  7. That blood pressure isn`t really that high , especially if you don`t have symptoms like headache or chest pain. The diagnosis of hypertension is only made by 3 SEPARATE ( three different occasions/visits ) readings that are more than 140/90. I don`t think it will be a problem. Good luck, hope you just breeze through it
  8. So sorry to hear about what you`re going through right now . Definitely have the MRI of brain done (and interpreted) before you leave. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news on Tuesday.
  9. Congratulations :wubclub: and all the best for you and your daughter. Have fun
  10. True, I was just thinking it
  11. Good thinking LKC, if in doubt, have it taken out  I can`t think of any man in my family that cares ( husband, dad, brother). I do put on sunscreen and so do the kids but my husband keeps saying he won`t get sunburn having dark skin (olive toned) :swoon:. Of course he got burned badly on occasions. I work in an oncology hospital and I`ve seen melanoma in every single skin type, including black .
  12. Enjoy New York . Beautiful city, I liked it a lot when I visited. If the long-term forecast is to be believed, you`re going to freeze your a&&&s this winter though, better start looking for a shovel
  13. I haven`t been to Manila airport ( would like to visit the Philippines though in the future) but I can hardly believe it can be worse than Charles de Gaulle Paris, worst one I`ve ever been to, even compared to Cairo or Bucharest airports . I`ve heard that Bucharest is now improved, I flew through 8 years ago but Paris was still the same on a quite recent trip. I prefer to pay a little more to fly with Lufthansa through Frankfurt or KLM through Amsterdam. Pity really because the inflight service on Air France was quite good, especially the wine
  14. I don`t think this is A&E case anymore, your GP should refer you to plastic surgeon to see your son and recommend what should be done. If he needs stitches, he might be OK with local anesthesia at this age. If not, he might get a sedation, it doesn`t have to be IV, it can be a syrup. It wears off in about 4 hours. If you think he will do OK without sedation, don`t let the medical staff talk you into it for their convenience. I`ve found out ( at work and with my son) that a lot of times it just needs patience and communication, 5 year old can understand a lot . My son`s dentist wanted to sedate Adam for a tiny filling - it was seen only on X ray and they are only fixing it because he needs a kind of a brace and it might get worse. I am glad I was stubborn and told them to try without sedation, he did great and was done in 5 minutes!
  15. What Happy Heart said . In the meantime, you could get those little "butterfly" dressings to keep the edges of the wound as close as possible. Keep the wound clean and dry, watch for redness, oozing, fever - if you see any of those, go to ER. My little one had her chin glued when she fell on it, these head wounds bleed a lot but glue was fine in her case. Get your boy to see the doc as soon as possible. Good luck to your boy
  16. Sorry I am on US time and was sleeping . Police checks expire 1 year after they are issued. It doesn`t take that long to process it so I`m gonna wait for CO to ask for it. The note you are referring to is just a notice that they won`t use people`s envelopes but they will be the ones to mail the certificate to address provided on the Applicant information form. If there`s going to be extra charge for shipping I can`t say but might be if the certificate is mailed to another country. If in doubt, you could send them an email and ask the exact details. Here are contacts for FBI offices abroad: http://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/legat
  17. Hi, I just looked at it yesterday, their page says that the processing times are 5-6 weeks and they still accept fingerprint cards either from individuals or agents ( check on website for approved agents). As per the info on the website they need the fingerprint card ,Applicant information form including address and phone number and payment of 18 dollars - money order or credit card authorization form. The whole thing here: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/criminal-history-summary-checks/submitting-a-criminal-history-summary-request-to-the-fbi our security checks are expired so I expect to go through this process again soon. I had one done in 2012 and instead of 6 weeks as stated on the website it took 2.5 weeks . Hope this helps.
  18. Just saw this yesterday - there is indeed hope to solve "cold cases", in this one the girl had been finally identified after 22 years and her killer was arrested. http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/12/justice/new-york-cold-case-baby-hope/index.html?hpt=hp_inthenews my personal opinion is that Madeline isn`t alive but I wish I was wrong
  19. Good luck Candygirl! Too late to wish you a safe flight  but I hope you get over your jetlag soon . Have fun!
  20. Looks like public health system is the better one to get a job as a nurse. Thanks for explaining, Johndoe
  21. Thanks, is it calculated on the amount of leave days that you actually took that year or is it 27.5 % on top of the 5 (or 6) weeks that you are entitled to take that year?
  22. What does exactly mean "leave loading" , I thought you get 17.5% of you leave days added to your annual leave every year with the employer but that doesn`t make much sense, people with let`s say 15 - 20 years of service would have a massive amount of leave . My friend works for public hospital and she just took a maternity leave - double time for half pay. She`s very happy with that.
  23. Do you have a family member living in Australia who could invite you?
  24. Hi there, white blood cells could mean a urinary tract infection, nothing a round of antibiotics can`t fix. I don`t think it`s something to be concerned about for passing the medicals. Blood in the urine, if it didn`t clear out, would be a concern though.
