  1. Thanks for asking, we have our visa, yay! Selling the house ( realtor already has a buyer - about 90 % chance), we will go towards the end of March. Spending some time on the way in Canada and in Czech Republic with families, then heading to Australia! If you feel like it, I wouldn`t mind to see some photos from SA/VIC . Looks like finding a job was a piece of cake for you, that`s good.
  2. Laura, I am so happy to hear things worked out for you :wubclub:. I was wondering how are you doing. Wish you all the best in your future
  3. I think this situation needs to be discussed with migration agent. Best luck to you :wubclub:
  4. When I was at the end of pregnancy with my daughter, there was an outbreak of whooping cough. My OB told me that if I want she would give me the vaccine right after delivery because it`s not yet clear whether it would affect the fetus in any way. I was about to be due for my tetanus shot as well so as soon as I delivered my girl, I got the DTP vaccine.
  5. A polar temperature of -6 degrees Celsius in Houston . Hang in there, March is coming soon and New York will be lovely again
  6. It is a very interesting point of view. I myself am somewhere in the middle, I did vaccinate my children but if I had a choice ( without those vaccines they can`t attend school, daycare etc), I would be selective about which vaccines I wanted for them.
  7. I would probably burn the car :swoon:

    NYC

And I thought Houston was bad . Stay safe.
  9. I don`t think it`s right if the children don`t reside in UK, what`s the point? The country they are residing in should be paying social support.
  10. You get a certain amount back if you`re a homeowner, however you have to pay yearly property taxes ( high for us because we live in an area with excellent school). Not the whole thing is deductible, not sure how much of it.
  11. Wow we aren`t planning to borrow such a huge amount of money, want to have some of the salary left over for fun and travel:cool: . This is very reassuring though.
  12. Oh OK, that`s completely different than what we had to provide in the US ( income based). Makes sense though. Thanks!
  13. That`s strange, I`ve asked the same questions ( extension, not to appear in person), I was told I absolutely HAVE TO be there in person. That was last May so things might have changed. As per proof of address, we`ve opened a bank account and put a friend`s address. You can request AHPRA to mail your registration certificate to UK, they`ve sent mine to the US. The 2 AHPRA offices that we contacted with questions gave us different answers, and every time we talked to someone else in the same office it was a different answer  ( that was regarding the need for job offer). What we did at the end, we called the central AHPRA customer service, had a chat with a nice guy who confirmed the info with his manager ( at our request) and he sent us an official reply by email so that we have something in hand if AHPRA office wanted to stir trouble. It was a giant PITA . The vacation to finalize AHPRA was, however, great .

    Mild Winter

It was - 5 this morning in Houston :swoon: which for us is like the North pole conditions
  15. Hi all, I`m trying to round up the suburbs we are going to look at when we arrive. We are going to rent for at least a year ( probably longer) but would like to buy in the future. We have 2 small children so I am concentrating on suburbs with good schools. I would like to get experience/ideas about what amount of loan can we possibly get. I don`t want to move the kids again once they are enrolled at school so no point in renting where we can`t ever afford to buy in the future . I am a nurse, my husband is a nurse educator. Combined income, provided both of us work full time, would be 170 - 180 K per year. We might be able to put about 100 K as a down payment ( depends how much we spend on the move to Australia lol) One of us might work part time actually but I am just trying to get an estimate. Advice is appreciated.

    Moving to Oz

We haven`t posted single thing, everything was online:biggrin:

    Moving to Oz

We did our application ourselves. It`s pretty straightforward after you`ve read it about 10 times lol. If you, however, have ANYTHING that might be a potential complication ( job related, health related, criminal record, anything like that), I would rather go through a migration agent.
  18. What about the cost of assessment of qualifications for your job? Me and husband both had to spend about 1200$ total for the processing of nursing licenses ( including certifying copies of documents, postal fees etc). I`m not even counting the extra trip to Australia to finalize the license in person
  19. There is a visa for business people : http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/business/ maybe you would be eligible for that? Check with immigration. Good luck:wubclub:
  20. Ok so we did some more number crunching and decided to sell . Thank you all for your input, it`s been very helpful. Everything opens next week and we are going to contact the real estate agency on Monday. NicF, this is exactly what my husband said, that if we sell it, we should never look again at the prices in case they went up . It feels good to have made a decision this important, now we just have the smaller things to worry about such as shipping ( boxes only) and furniture and baby stuff sale
  21. Nope, a nurse and a nurse educator
  22. Definitely something we have to think about as we don`t have family here in US and we aren`t planning to come to US for vacation either ( planning to see Grand Canyon, the last place that we wanted to visit bud didn`t manage to yet, just before we leave).
  23. That is our concern too. However, before we bough the condo, we were preapproved for a loan up to 360K, we just didn`t feel like spending that amount on a big house and have nothing left for vacation and leisure stuff. We are both in the medical field and we make decent salaries. As I look at realestate.com.au, I am realizing how cheap Houston is
