  1. Did you wife do her 3 years nurse training then complete a PGdip Health visiting? If so she will get reg, as I have a Dip He adult nursing and completed Bsc Hons HV, and recently got Ahpra. As pointed out PG dip is higher than Bsc Hons. If she did a direct HV course without initial nurse training then I'm not sure how Ahpra would assess this.
  2. Hi Spanners we have been in Perth just 2 months, I'm 43, hubby is 51 and we have 2 children 5 and 8. I wen through this numerous times during the whole process, my hubby was very supportive. , and just said if you want to go, we will go and if not we will stay it's fine. It took the pressure off a lot! I even changed my mind after I handed my notice in and had a visa in place! The process is quite overwhelming at times, and the biggest struggle for me was the thought of leaving our adult children. Now we are here I am so glad that we made the move, even people like me who were 100% wanting to go have wobbles. I'm happy for you to pm me
  3. Hi sam I also used the Cambridge ielts practice book and cd, there are practice tests on the ielts website, and I also got some tips from watching ielts Ryan on you tube. The other thing to consider is the transfer of answers to the marking sheet. There is room for error here, so try to leave it enough time to transfer the answers without rushing this bit. Good luck
  4. From memory, one was about handling a confrontation/agitated family member in a clinical area scenario. One was around my knowledge of midwifery standards/ clinical governance. One was around a project/ initiative that I had been involved in. Nothing too challenging to be honest. Just remember the time difference! I think it was a few weeks, before I heard anything, and I haven't had a formal job offer from the recruitment pool. In fairness they did ask me at interview when I would be available to work, and I didn't have my visa or ahpra in place at the time. They have sent asking me to inform them when my visa/ahpra is in place. I don't think they will offer me a job until Ahpra has been granted, in view of the problems with people getting registration why would they? Hope this helps.
  5. I had an interview with them last year, it was fine, 5 questions 3 interviewers. Look at the interview questions and jot down some points in preparation. The only off putting thing was the delay between us both speaking. I got offered the job (it was for a recruitment pool) Good Luck
  6. I was in the same position last year Linzi. My occupation (nursing) was on schedule 1 for WA but by the time I came to apply it had gone to schedule 2. I managed to get a job but it wasn't the same ANZCO code so didn't qualify. I then talked myself into going to Melbourne as it was on schedule 1, however I waited around too long and it also moved to schedule2!. I just waited until WA released its new list and jumped on it straight away. I now have a 190 visa for WA. Perhaps keep a close eye on all of the states SOL's and go with where you can. It's only a 2year commitment. Good luck
  7. Got our visa yesterday!!!!! Lodged 13 Sep Adelaide team 4. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting
  8. Lodged 13 sep 190 visa, co allocated 14November. PCC sent today, medicals 17/11/2014:smile:
  9. I think you should appeal pending the outcome of your registration and demonstrate how you have met the criteria for continuity of care...Far greater than 20 cases! Strange thing is, I checked out midwifery training with one of the Uni's in Oz, and they have to begin the continuity not later than 35 weeks...erm so near the end of pregnancy then?? Not exactly caseholding is it?? At least the 4 women that I followed in my training were from the time of booking. Bunch of Jokers
  10. The changes that have been introduced by AHPRA for both midwives and nurses are a shambles to say the least. The bottom line is no degree = No registration, as they no longer count experience!
  11. Not sure if you have seen the latest news http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/.../FAQ-IQNM...
  12. My best advice is to start by reading the Ahpra website that outlines the new criteria for obtaining midwifery registration before you do anything else.http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/.../FAQ-IQNM...
  13. I think they will want to employ you! They have a massage shortage of midwives all over Australia, and any health employer knows how well us UK midwives are trained  They offered me a job at Fiona Stanley In Perth back in April, knowing I was newly qualified. Stay positive x
  14. In relation to the visa question, midwives and nurses don't appear to have had any problems getting visa's or positive Anmac assessments, but keep an eye on all of the websites including immigration, ahpra, Anmac as they have a nasty habit of changing the criteria. Finally, depending on the visa you go for, if it's the state nominated one make sure that you meet all the criteria for that state at the time of applying. I think midwives are on schedule 1(WASMOL)for most states at the moment meaning you don't need a job offer in place, but this can change.
  15. I'm not sure you will have to get the 20 caseloads. Looks like the supervised practice is instead of this I believe that it is part of Australian midwives training so this is probably why it's now being asked for. There has been no specific information on what the supervised practice will entail yet. Ahpra are due to give some answers about this soon following the twitter chat room. Keep an eye on the AHPRA website next week or if You use twitter, the chat used #ahpraqanda.
  16. I have Kelly!! I spoke with a very level headed colleague yesterday and she said if I am going to live in another country I better get used to things being done differently than I'm used to, not just on this issue but in general. It made a lot of sense. I also have had a little vino this weekend It helps after that twitter chat yesterday! I'm still on a roll with my questions to Ahpra though x
  17. Although it seems incredibly unfair, it is a massive step forward, as they were refusing to register midwives without 20 c care experiences prior to this. The way I see it (now I have calmed down) is that the door is now open when it was very firmly closed, and if Oz is your dream then it looks like the only way forward.

  19. Update on AHPRA website, changes affecting INQM's for anyone who is unaware. Some people got good news and some didn't but all credit to a group of persistent, and passionate nurses and midwives who have been campaigning tirelessly for their own registrations and for others.
  20. Update from AHPRA on website, midwives who meet all other criteria except for 20 continuity care will be registered but need to undertake 12 months supervised practice. Not the best outcome but better than nothing, and a result due to the persistence of a group of passionate midwives and nurses.
  21. I did 18 month BSC only caseloaded 4 women, even the 3 year students don't caseload 20, looks like another ahpra move to block midwives as well as nurses. I cant see many midwives meeting that criteria unless they are caseloading midwives.
  22. I just completed 18 month bsc hons midwifery and only caseloaded 4 women. Even the 3 year degree students didn't caseload 20 women.
  23. My UKCC was accepted by Anmac too....not that it makes any difference now with the current AHPRA nonsense!
