Motor Mechanic Technical interview (week today, please help)
jameshill1991 posted a topic in Working and Skilled Visas
Hi all, OK first post... hopefully someone can help me out and maybe put my mind at rest (or not). Im a mechanic, 26, with qualifications and experience (carried out apprenticeship with VW), i gained my qualifications 7 years ago. Im applying for permanent residency soon and my main concern is with the vetassess interview via video call, i would really like to hear from people that have experienced this part of the process. I know myself i'm capable of doing my job but with it being years ago that i was last trained, and often rarely encountering some of the aspects of what i was originally trained in day-to-day, i'm worried what they will ask me and whether i will have the correct answers for them to pass! I am worried mainly about questions on testing electronics, auto gearboxes... areas that i haven't had much to do with, things that i know i could repair but still i'm worried about answering questions on them. i have read a couple of threads on a similar topic but the only answers i came across was people saying 'don't worry, its not actually that bad'........... i'm still worrying! lol I guess i would love to hear from someone who has done the interview as part of there process and to explain what it was like in a bit more detail... Is it hard?! What sort of questions would they ask? How in-depth do they expect you to go? How would they ask them? Is it more of a conversation than a test? How long dose it take? How would you recommend i prepare? Im not trying to worry too much but it just feels to me like this would be the deal breaker of the whole application! If anyone feels like they could help me out, it would be much appreciated! Thanks, James. -
I have applied for my husband’s spouse visa in June 2017 and received a phone call interview on the 6th of February 2018. Does anyone know around how long I could be waiting for my husband to get his visa? My husband is an Afghan National currently living in Pakistan.

Hi All, I'm looking for anyone with advice or experience regarding interview processes for and 801/820 partner visa. I have submitted all documents on my immi account application and am waiting patiently for next correspondence but just wondering if anyone knows if you definitely have to complete an interview? If so, is this usually an in person interview or do they do it over the phone (onshore application). Any idea on a time frame? For example do they conduct interviews when you apply for the temporary first stage or do they wait until the permanent application stage? I'm not at all worried about the interview itself, or the questions they could ask. I feel confident that would not be an issue for us. I'm more concerned about having to travel to Brisbane from North of Cairns just to meet someone in person as I know how much that is likely to cost when I take into account flights or travel, accommodation and time off work etc. I know that Cairns has an immigration office but i'm fairly sure it's just there for show and is virtually unoccupied save for a security guard. Any input appreciated ?

I moved to perth almost 2 months back, I'm a mechanical engineer with over 5 years experience and have managed to have just one interview so far. Most of my job applications are through seek.com, what I have found most of the adds are by recruiters not by the companies; And these recruiters are mostly normal people with no experience in whatever field you are in. Recently I was talking to a friend and he suggested I go directly to the companies and talk to the HR department, I like the idea but it seems a lot of work: first I'll have to find where their HR department located, second if they are even interested in interviewing/need people, third just traveling around, I don't have a car. I would really like to hear from engineers who have managed to get job after arriving in perth and how they used to apply for jobs.

Apologies if I have provided too much info in this thread. I have split it into sections for those who want to skip to my queries. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provid First a bit of background info: I am a British citizen (35 years old). 3 years ago an Australian girl came for a 1 year trip to the UK. During that time, we met and continued dating for the rest of her trip. When she returned to Australia, we maintained a long distance relationship. In that time she has come to the UK twice and I have been to Sydney once. She has met most of my family and I have met most of hers. VISAs I employed the services of a MARA agent, who after reviewing my details, stated that I had an excellent chance of being granted a "Skilled Visa (subclass 189)" (for ICT Business Analyst). The issue with this approach is that it will take between 8 and 16 months to get the visa - we are hoping to get married during Easter 2015. I enquired if the "Proposed Marriage Visa" would be a quicker way to proceed - which he agrees it would be. 1st QUERY From what I have read, it is rare for genuine couples to have their PMV turned down, but the process can take between 3 weeks and 3 months. As it is a requirement for us to get married within 9 months of the visa being granted, when should I submit the application? (As I dont want it to start before August, in order for us to get married in April 2015). 2nd QUERY I am hoping to land a job in Sydney before I move. Should I state within my covering letter that I have applied for PMV (I expect it would help as they wouldnt need to sponsor me). Also, should I state my reasons for moving to Australia (I know that personal details are usually excluded from covering letters, but this would give them an indication of how long I intend to stay in Australia).

Hi, Can you tell me how long is normal in Australia for a prospective employer to get back to you following a skype interview. I have had a few job interviews over the past year and there is a flurry of activity and then all interest diminishes and no one gets back - is this normal? Here in Britain a prospective employer usually gets back within a few days - or a week tops following interview. How long should I wait before a chase the employer following interview? It has been 12 days now and heard nothing. Should I be worried?:dull:

Hi All, This is my first post on here although I have been a browsing guest for several months now. I took my SA Police entrance exam in London last month and past it...now I just have to pass the interview stage! Is there anyone on here that could give me a heads up with what to expect in the interview? I will be taking my wife along with me which will hopefully help me to relax a bit more than I usually do in interviews! Anyway...I look forward to your replies :policeman:

Totally stunned...had an email ofering a Skype interview next week! Been very upfront about needing sponsorship and it hasn't put them off! Finally, trawling through Seek.com is paying off! I hope its a voice and not a video call as I think my 7am face might frighten them off!
