  1. The amount of work available is not really linked to the list available for visas - only very losely. So you must never assume that because your job is on the list, there is actual demand for your work
  2. As someone that has done post grad courses in the UK i cn also add that help is rare even for British residents with post grad courses. Normally students recieve no funding for living costs and have to pay their own fees. This is one of the reasons British students often go straight to a Phd rather than a masters - Phd's normally come with funding for uni fees and living costs and students can earn a reasonable amount acting as assistants to staff. However, many universities can provide bursaries that cover fees and some cover living expenses, but it is often for very particular courses. A number of the main banks do special loans for education with very low interest rates known as career development loans. I would contact the department at the university to discuss this. As for that particular university, it depends on what you intend to study as to how good it is.
  3. No. You must work in the regional area for the designated period. However, the up side is there is a current boom in house building in mandurah
  4. Its a bit dated, but a fun day out on a hot day
  5. Is he a registered migration agent? It is VITAL you only use a registered migration agent
  6. I will chuck in a response about when to book. Book as early as possible. I fly a lot (equivalant of London to Oz every month) and the idea of "last minute" cheap fares is a myth. Flights allocate a certain amount of seats to each booking cost type per flight - in economy there can be as many as 10 types each with a different price. Once that cost type is used, it is used. As for return or single. It depends on if you are moving to Oz permanantly or for a holiday / WHV. If the later, then i would book a return. A open return is about $500 more than a fixed return and many airlines will not charge a fee for changing a open return provided it is used within 12 months of the outward flight. That is a lot cheaper than $1200+ for a flight home in a years time. It also means you are not having to worry about keeping money for the flight.
  7. Never been as far as Armadale itself, but we used to have to go to Maddington for work, which is on the way and the train got so bad - several staff attacked or threatened, that the company banned us using the train and forced us to use taxis
  8. The always worrying reply. Why do you think this is going to be so important for your kids? You realise your moving from a developed country to another developed country with all of the associated pluses and negatives. One is no better for kids than the other. There just different
  9. I would have a chat with a migration agent as a 457 may not be the best option
  10. I think nearly everyone goes through some degree of homesickness. Its natural. Some will go though it and find this becomes home. Others dont and the longing to be back home just stays or even gets worse. Only time will tell. I think your plan of reviewing it in a couple of years is a good idea. That should be enough time to decide if you truly want to stay in Oz or not.
  11. I know how you feel and the situation you are in. I would move back tomorrow, but my wife loves it in Oz - i think it is mainly the weather as she was born and grew up in a warm climate and when she moved to the UK aged 16, never got used to the colder climate. So, here i am in Oz. A billy no mates, but with a happy wife. We are lucky and have always had a nice house in Oz - 3x the size of what we had in the UK with a pool and next to the beach. In the UK we lived in a slighty rough (red light area) of Leicester in a little terraced house. But, i would go back to that tomorrow.
  12. Firstly, you might be better off posting in the backpacking WHV section. It would be hard to get into a marketing role while on a WHV as you can only work for 1 employer for 6 months, so companies tend not to bother for more proffessional roles, though no harm in trying. Captain Cook Cruises run boats on the river and around Mandurah so worth trying. 2 weeks should be plenty to get a house share - check out gumtree
  13. Hi does any one know what it means if an occupation on the WA list is Schedule 2? I have read some posts that say it means they will only gain WA sponsorship if the applicant has a job offer. Is this correct? If so, does it affect those that have already submitted their application or only those yet to apply? The reason i ask is that i noticed the new list has come out and a mate who is a geologist has already applied and today geologist has gone to schedule 2.
  14. We moved from Sydney to Perth and have to say we have found it harder to make friends in Perth than we did in Sydney. In the 6 months in Sydney we had made some friends. In over 5 years in Perth we havent made any.
  15. It shouldnt be an issue. But, you will need permission from the biological father for him to move to oz.
  16. If you are eligible for PR you can do it when ever you want, but you would require a skills assessment if you havent been with the employer 2 years. After two years a skills assessment is not required.
  17. A WHV is what it says. A holiday. In order to gain sponsorship you still have to have a skill on the skilled lists. There are two lists known as the SOL and CSOL. Have a look at immi.gov.au for these lists. However, at the age of 19, it would be very unlikely you would have a skill on the list
  18. Hi Danny I can only comment on mining. It is hard for anyone to break into mining at the moment as there have in the last 12 months been a number of redundacies in the mining industry. So your chasing jobs up against people with experience. The issue is your visa. I believe you are on a WHV. This is a major problem. You can only work for an employer for 6 months. Inductions for mining companies can be a month. Training is then upto a couple of months. So, with only 3 months of actual work, it isnt worth it for them. There are also issues with mining in QLD. Most of the mining is coal and this requires very particular tickets, without which you can not enter a coal mine. Lastly, there are issues with being a plant operator. It isnt the same as the equipment used in mining - a face shovel might look like a normal loader, but a normal loader can be fitted into the bucket of a face shovel! The main industry job site is infomine.com and go to the careers section. Good look with your hunt.
  19. The power station will be built pricing at twice the CURRENT rate. By the time on stream, it will probably be about the then average rate. Power is going up world wide. Nothing much any of us can do about it.
  20. We have had to do it three times in the last few years. Myself twice and my wife once. It can prove harder than you think. The hardest was my wifes as it was late on a sunday afternoon and none of the agents were open, nor the airline booking offices and you cant book online if you are flying within 24 hours. So we ended up just driving to the airport to see what we could do. The only ticket office open was with Thai and that was lucky as the girl should have been finished and was just doing some extra hours of admin. We managed to get the last seat on the plane and had to pay a significant premium.
  21. I live in Mandurah opposite a beach and we have no industrial views or things. This is our beach from the air
