Hi, just wondering if anyone has experienced my situation. After three years (886FS applied Dec 09) finally got CO and request to send Aus police check and medicals. I've booked my medical, and my blood pressure was up! I mean it wasn't significantly high as such, but it's in the class they call 'pre-hypertension.' When I looked it up online, the medical advice is that prehypertension mustn't be ignored, as it can lead to full hypertension (ie high blood pressure) if it is ignored, and of course then they go on about the risk of heart disease, stroke etc. Note that I am otherwise healthy, a little bit overweight to be honest but that's all, never any issues with my blood pressure before. Anyway I went in to do half the tests ie blood, urine, chest X Ray, blood pressure etc Thursday and have to go back next Thursday for the proper medical with the doctor. I am now in a terrible panic. Can't believe something is going on at this late stage. Has anyone experienced this please?

Did the repeat readings exceed the following limit:

40 years of age or less - 140/90 mmHg

41 to 64 years of age - 150/90 mmHg

65 or more years of age - 160/90 mmHg

if it did , usually they will sent you to a specialist for further examination.

Try not to panic......as it will only raise your blood pressure.

Dont panic, 'coz it could lead to increased levels of blood pressure. Take some blood thinning medicines (viz., Aspirin) until your next checkup atleast. Anyways, take good care of your health for the long run. Cheers.

Hi to you, guys

Thank you very much for replying. Those figures - are you saying that is what DIAC go by, because if that is the case, I am 39 years old and my reading was 129/88. The nurse who took it said it was on the high side, hence I looked it up and discovered that doctors freak out that it will progress to hypertension. I feel a whole lot better now, so thank you. Obviously I will have to deal with this if I really do have BP that is higher than ideal, but as you can imagine, the urgent thing is my medical! I've taken immediate steps to try to bring it down before Thursday (cutting out salt, taking magnesium/calcium supps and garlic pills, drinking heaps of water and doing breathing exercises) and it seems to be working as it's come down a few points already from what it was on Thursday. Thanks so much, guys, for your support. Hope all goes well for you

Thanks, Bull! I have just started taking aspirin too, left it out of my list. Yes, I'll go to my GP once the medical is out of the way, try to lose those few extra kilos and take some exercise - funny things act as a wakeup call! Just praying it will be ok for my medical, got to de-stress!

Dont need to panic my friend, I am in same boat... after 3.5 year they found that I got abnormal chest x ray....go to GP.my gp said nothing to worry...what they said.I got not a single symptoms what they finding.but they ask me to got further imaging for Ct scan and respiratory specialist which i am going next week.If you have co than dont need to worry they can look up ur case wait for you further medical test. There is nothing that they will refuse ur visa... Only Active TB is the disease that will stop you to enter Australia immedeately. They ask to go for further treatment.I have seen in immi web hypertension is not big issue. So be relax....they found high bp last time when I applied in 2009.....but three serial bp measurment in three different week said all clear. So relax.

Hi Saras, thank you for the reassurance! I am sorry to hear that your application has stalled but like you say, with any luck it should go through in due course. I share your frustration that things are held up, though and wish you all the best with your CT scan and specialist appointment. Let us know how things go - we will all be here wishing you well and I know you will support me and others like me.
