Hi jmorris,

So jealous that you are moving so soon, we are a family of 4, my husband (32) is a car paint sprayer and I am 29 and a beauty specialist, we have two children 4 and 2 and a half. We qualify for the skilled independant visa and our documents have all been sent, all we have now is a very very long wait, we are looking at 2 years (according to visa processing times) which is March/April 2013 if not longer!! Seems like it isnt real!

Are you going to rent when you arrive in Perth? Whereabouts are you looking to go?

A x

Hi ya

Thanks for post. We were told 18-22 months, 8 months later and we had got or 175 visa. That is why were not there already, we did not hAve time to prepare. It does take ages but for a reason, I think of having a baby as an analogy you need time to get things in order for such a life changing experience. Your time we come just when your not expecting it.

We are looking at a few areas mount lawley, wembly. But all depends on jobs and schools, iv been researching schools on Australian schools directory and their websites.

We fly out to accotvate your visas in 6 weeks we are very excited.

Good luck

You can do it quicker. We came on a 457 and we were here 6 weeks after our visa was granted. It just takes careful organisation.

HARPERS GIRL - We are looking at my 20 year old son going with us on a work permit. It only costs a few hundred dollars and he can try his hardest to find an employer to sponsor him whilst hes working. Its a long shot but gives him a couple of years to sort things out and maybe we would be able to sponsor him by then :frown:

We are also hoping to head for Perth so this thread is great for getting as much info as possible about all the different suburbs and reasons for choosing them.

Its like finding a needle in a haystack trying to chose a place to call home when you have never been

But ive plenty time to do my research and im loving every minute of it.

We won't be in Perth til early next year but I was wondering if anyone moving had a teenage daughter?

Mine is 15 and adamant she's staying behind with her dad to do her A levels.she's coming over for around 2 months with us and it would be great if she made some good friends.

She's a normal, stroppy teenager, likes music, boys, movies,Xbox and clothes. She does well at school, never had any bother with her for drinking or staying out late etc.

Lol I sound like I'm selling her but this is important if I've anychance of changing her mind :-(:

We are looking at the Rockingham area

Hi Mandi,

My girls are only 8 and 5 although they seem to think they are teenagers most of the time lol. Good luck with your move and fingers crossed that once you all get there, your daughter will fall in love with the place and want to stay.

Hi there

Where in the UK were you from? How did you find renting in Perth, did you find a house easy? Have you moved all your 'stuff' over? Think we are going to replace as are stuff is old now and shipping is expensive.

Have you enrolled kids yet in school, are they finding it ok away from family and friends?

Tell us more:wink:

Hi J, just as a matter of curiosity, did you get a visa based on your PE teacher experience or your husband´s recruitment? I have a niece who is a PE teacher and recently she asked me about coming to Perth on her teaching qualifications. Thanks

Hi, The Tattams, we started the whole process off in Aug 07 and with one thing and another we finally had our Medicals on Valantines Day. We (me 40, hubby 41, daughter 10 and son 8) are looking around the Bunbury, Rockingham area, let us know when you get the Visa as it looks like we will be on a similar time scale, the bubbly will be well and truley open when we finally get the golden ticket!!

Hi

We're from West Yorkshire. We had a little trouble finding a rental when we arrived but I think that is because we had alot of competition at that time... there were 50 new migrant enrolments in the school the day I enrolled my kids so they would probably be house hunting too lol... however we did get a furnished place for 3 months so we are in this house till the beginning of May.... our stuff is due to arrive beginning of April, so we expect to get it around Easter time.

Kids are loving it here, they've settled far better than I could have hoped for in school and just in general...we've had no tears or homesickness which I really expected from my eldest daughter.

We got rid of some of our stuff, but even though you say your stuff is old I would give serious consideration to shipping it anyway... it would be expensive to go out and buy everything you need for a house all in one go, so if there are some stuff you can "make do" with and replace bit by bit I'd recommend it.

I haven't brought any cutlery or crockery for example because mine was well and truly past it, so I am buying little things each week so that when we move into an unfurnished rental when our stuff arrives, we have our kitchen needs catered for iyswim. We also need a sofa and eventually a couple of extra guest beds.

Hi I'm 15 and I'm moving to Perth with my dad and I'm a bit worried about the education system.. It means I'm afraid of failing everything because it will be different can some one tell me how it actually is if someone was in the same position with their son/daughter we are planning to go there from Ireland around august/September

Thank you
