me and my wife are looking to move out in July 2011.

I have a confirmed job, and am goign out on a 457 visa.

The wife will look for some work when she's out there, preferably in childcare as she's a qualified nursery assistant.

The jobs in CBD, but i'm not quite sure where to start looking for places to stay. Still can't believe it's happening, and theres a part of me thats worried that this may not be the right move, but i can't let go of an opportunity like this!

Har00n, I think in terms of where you decide to live really depends on what life stage you're at. If you have kids for example you might wish to look for a 4x2 with study near good schools - these tend to be either a reasonable distance north or south of the river/CBD (unless you have just come into an inheritance!). If it's just you and the wife, you might be happier with an apartment close to the CBD, so your commute to work is shorter. Maybe if you give us some more details other PIO'ers will chime in with their feedback :cute:

Sorry windswept, i should have given that information to begin with.

At present it's just me and the mrs. Married 10 years, no kids yet.

I'm thinking about getting an apartment, but i have a budget of about $350 a week, so i don't think i'm gonna find anything suitable around that price point in the CBD.

Hi Jay!

We did a reccie in February this year in Perth and we absolutely loved it! We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the place, the realxed feel, the lifestyle, the city itself and the beaches. We stayed with friends in an area called Bentley which was close to the city but still quiet with nearby parks as well as hiring a camper van and travelling north.

We really liked Quinn's Rock, Yanchep and Fremantle as well as Perth it's self but it really depends on what you're after and jobs etc as you've already mentioned.

We also visited some friends who lived right in the city centre as well as friends who lived out in the Swan Valley - so got to see fairly different lifestyles.

You'll see LJ Hooker Estate Agents everywhere and it'll give you an idea what's out there.

We're just in the process on having our skills assessed but hope that this time next year we'll be on our way to sunny Perth.

I hope you have an amazing time in April - let us know how you get on and what you find out!

Nikki :jiggy:

Hi everyone!!!

I'm Stella (27), we're going over to Perth the 1st or 2nd week in July on a 457 visa for Phil (31) new job, we have two boys, James (2.5) and Henry (10mths). I'm a stay at home mum so will definitely be looking to make some friends asap as we only know one person out there at the moment!!

We got our visas yesterday and Phil's handed his notice in today, we also agreed a sale on our house yesterday so are very excited about everything. We're not shipping anything over other than a couple boxes of sentimental things and childrens toys so we really are starting from scratch. Phils new job is in Balcatta so we're going to live NOR and fingers crossed we'll hopefully find somewhere in Mullaloo - which we LOVED whilst we were over there in April.

Be nice to try and get to meet up's once wearrive we're really keen to get socialising as soon as poss to help alleviate some of the homesickness/missing family & friends.

Good luck to those still waiting on visas!!

Hi Stella and Phil

My names Colette (33) and my partner Rik (32) and our 3 kids (12yrs, 4yrs and 19mths) are moving to Perth at the end of June. We are also not bringing anything with us except our suitcases and will be having some of the kids toys sent over in the coming months.

We are so excited and scared at the same time. I will be working in Perth CBD, but we are hopefully looking to live NOR in the Joondalup or Clarkson area.

We do know a few people already, but would love to also make some more friends as soon as possible, especially so the kids can also get together.

We had our visa's granted last week, put our house on the rental market yesterday and have a viewing tonight. I also finished my job today (Rik still has a few more weeks). Fell's like everything is happening really quickly now visa have been processed.

Hi,

We are in the early stages. Hubby received a job offer yesterday, company requested all paperwork to get the ball rolling. They want us there ASAP.

Have 2 daughters, 16 and 14.

Once we know where we are with the visas and contract, I'll be back online with formal introductions.

We are South Africans living in Scotland at the moment, but can't wait for a new life in Perth. Hope to meet up soon!

Anyone know how long visas take to process when on a sponsorship? Large international company, who often recruit from abroad.

Hi

Congratulations. I am also on a 457 visa and has taken in total from company submitting nomination to visa's granted 2 months, and this was the first full sponsorship my company has ever done. Should hopefully be quicker for you.

Best of luck

Colette

Hi guys, thought id stick my hand up and say hello. We're hoping to be heading to Perth in the next 12-18 months from North Yorkshire. Were both nurses, though i work for a Oil drilling company as an Offshore Medic, and have just completed my Safety Certificates, so hoping to carry on in the same line of work, or head to the Mines for similar. Sarah is a Health Visitor, so will be looking for a CFH Nurse post, just a couple of days per week. We're sending her application to AHPRA in the next few weeks. Im fully registered already and recieved my ANMAC assessment back 2 weeks. ago. Our initial intention was to get SS from WA, but the new points sytem allows us to go for a 175, as i managed to fluke a 9 on IELTS, and it gives more points for our 10yrs+ work experience. So we'll be applying July 1st.

Probably heading to either Freo or Subiaco. Hoping to head for a reccie at the end of this year if visas approved by then...validate at the same time.

[Hi

QUOTE=wickett5;1065764]Hi

We are also looking to move to Clarkson Mid June on a 457 visa (I am a Recruitment Consultant, other half a Gardener, children Mya 11yrs, Tyrese 4yrs and Tiahna Star 18mths).

We are just waiting for the visa to be approved and look to fly out early/mid June. I thought the same as you, want to be near to a train station so not too much hassle to get into Perth CBD. Clarkson looks good value for money and a nice neighbourhood.

Colette

Hi ya Colette

How things? That's great news on job and visa, good luck on interview. If you don't mind me asking which company is your partner working for?

Were just back from Perth after activating our visa all the suburbs look nice and everything is so close.

Hi Collette, thanks for replying!

How's things going? Is your house rented out yet? Looks like we'll hopefully living quite close to each other, so would be lovely to stay in touch and meet up when we've settled in. Phil's starting working almost straight away - the company are already asking whether we can get there any sooner.

I'm with you on it all happening really quickly now, it's almost surreal for a while until you get your visas granted isn't it? Are you staying in a holiday rental or something for a while while trying to get something more long-term?

At the moment we're planning on staying in a furnished holiday let until the beginning of December, giving us time to buy furniture slowly and we'll be settled in our 'proper' home in time for Christmas.

Keep in touch x

Hi Stella

Everything is happening sooooooooo quickly. Our house is hopefully rented (the couple are coming around to measure up tonight) so hopefully first viewing and they have decided to take it!!!

We will be in a serviced apartment for our first week (paid for by my company) near to the Swan River. We are hoping to find a long term let pretty quickly and will get furniture when we can (Gumtree look's pretty good for sofa's etc).

My job are constantly contacting me to see if we are ready to fly out yet, so look's likely I will be starting work within the first week.

Will be good to meet up once we have settled (we need to celebrate with a few bottles of wine!!!).

Will keep in contact and will drop you a message with my personal e-mail.

Colette :>)

Hello

We're hoping to move to Perth in November after I've had our 2nd child. I'm 36, Hubby is 40 and our son is 4. We're from Liverpool but currently live in New Zealand, have done since Nov 2009.

Email me, more people who've done this, the better we'll settle
