I have a friend that lives in the Northern suburbs and when we have storms in Perth it generally affects the northern suburbs as opposed to the southern suburbs also the big hail stones like golf balls were towards north perth, we didnt have that down here in Mandurah :arghh:

That is the nature of weather. Surely you are not seriously thinking you have better weather in Mandurah, I have never heard anything as ridiculous.

As my daughter would say, whatever. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/05/30/3230303.htm?site=perth Look, you got more rain in Mandurah during this storm!!

I was just saying I thought your comment was misleading about the weather differences between Mindarie and Mandurah as really there is very little difference on a day to day basis.

We're coming out in October and hoping to head to Mandurah as loved it when we visited on holiday. Our only concern is that it might be too far out from Perth so will have to see where we find jobs. Can you recommend which areas are nice to live in? Have heard house prizes are pretty good there at the moment, fingers crossed the exchange rate picks up by Oct!

Hi were at flying the end of November and heading to mandurah, have seen you are in Basingstoke we are in fleet.

Mandurah looks lovely good house prices we are looking to rent in halls head. I have heard it is the fastest growing city in wa out of Perth so I am sure there will be work potential.

Good luck and get in touch if you fancy meeting for a coffee before you go as were up the road.

Michelle :)

Northbridge is the centre of perth and very expensive and not very nice at times, theres been a few stabbings etc there recently, saying that the best shops are there as well. We have rented an apartment in Burwood, near the casino and we love it, the rent is reasonable and the view over perth and the river is so beautiful, plus we have secure underground car parking, heated pool, barbie area, gym all included and a cafe and itailan 2 mins walk away or the places at the casino, its a 15 min commute for me to work and for my husband 7 mins on the train into the cbd. Best thing we ever did was move close to the city, if you want places to eat and go out walking distance or cheap train ride (under 2bucks to the city) go for this area, if you want long commute but family lifestyle etc pick manurah etc (which was lovely but waaay to far from work)

Its all about what lifestyle you want, i like being so close to the city but it still being very quiet and relaxed, plus having brunch at the cafe that i can nip to with the dog is very appleaing also :)

I would prefer a lot more rain than large hail stones and storms wreaking havoc!!!

The rain here has been hardly worth talking about and is a breath of fresh air so to speak when it does come cos its so scarce.

Like i said previously, i would prefer living down here for more than one reason.

Enough said!!!!!

Yes i was thinking that about Northbridge too but didnt want to upset anyone by voicing it but yes you are right, it is expensive and there has been a bit of trouble there lately judging by the media.

Perth hadn't had a storm like that for 50 years and probably won't for another 50. Worst weather I have experienced in the 6 years I have lived here.

Dont bank on it, we are being subject to something called global warming which we didnt have 50 years ago (probably) and it is affecting different countries in different ways, some with very tragic consequences. Weather is acting very strange all around the world and i believe it will only get worse with time, it wont just be one off things that happen which is quite worrying especially when you see islands like the Maldives disappearing into the sea!!!

We now have our permanent residency visas & are flying out to Perth permanently on tuesday!!! Its been a stressfull few weeks but the packers came in last wednesday so the stuff for the boat has now gone although it does take 84 days to get there!!! I do feel slightly less stressed now that stuff has gone but still got loads to pack as we are allowed 30kg each for the plane. I cant find anything now as most things are packed. Cant wait to chill on plane with a glass of wine!!!

The nerves r definately kicking in now, the kids left school yesterday & while my 5 year old just shrugged it off my 8 year old was very upset. We had our leaving party aswell last night, it was very emotional & my eyes r swollen today from crying!!

Still I know this move is the right thing to do & that our children will have better futures, this is what keeps me going!!

Cant wait to get settled but I know that will take a while. I think the day my husband gets a job is the day when I will finally relax a little. He is a plasterer so if anyone knows of any jobs available (pref north perth) let us know. I will also be working but in a month or so as need to settle the kids in first. I have worked in civil service admin for the last 10 years so I will be going into office work part time, 2 or 3 days a week.

We are hiring a car for the 1st couple of weeks to give us chance to buy a car, we are after a 4 wheel drive so if anyone knows of any for sale let me know.

Anyway I will keep you all informed of our progress so to be continued......................

Hi all, we are flying out to Perth (on 457 visa) on 2 August. Feeling nervous and excited! Its coming in really fast now, so much still to sort out,. However, got our house rented out for 2 years and got somewhere to stay (in Rockingham) fully furnished for first couple of months until our stuff arrives.

Anyone got advice on areas south of the river? my husband will be working in Canning Vale, so don't want to be too far away from there. We have 2 children (ages 4 (almost 5) and 3 years).

Good luck, you'll be fine. Don't look upon your leaving party as a final "We'll never see you again". You will see them and will be in touch, Skype is wonderful. The first year will be stressful and weird but it will fall into place eventually. The kids will quickly settle and will be happy. Christmas in the summer is strange, believe me!!

Good luck and enjoy:cool:

Hi there

Yes we are south of the river but quite a bit further down than Canning Vale. We are in Secret Harbour. Places that are nice if you want a newish property closer to Canning Vale are Success and Atwell whether you are buying or renting.

You be careful now down in perfect weather Mandurah today because there is a storm coming and looking at the radar South are going to cop it worse than North. Batten down the hatches Mandra ;)

Hi ya

Yea it looks nice NOR and cheaper, just depends where my husband gets offered a job.

Have you and your wife got jobs to go to? It is such a big decision to up roots and emigrate - what made you decide? I was sick of being cool and teaching PE in the rain lol.

My sister and mother in law have not been very supportive so far but are coming around slowly, anyone else having this problem.

Im having the same problem with my family, my sister and mother are not pleased. my mother tho can see that we are struggling to make ends meet here so she is starting to come around but my sister is barely speaking to me. It's hard enough to leave without getting everyones support. She is just going to have to deal with it, We just cannot stay here and be miserable for the rest of our days with the ****ty weather and no money!!!

I hate to put the cat amongst the pidgeons but we were quite well off in the UK and never worried about money but i can honestly say you really do need a lot of money over here. You generally earn more but things are more expensive and we are only just making ends meet and get quite stressed out if we sat and thought about it too much

Hi all

Thought I would introduce myself and my family to this thread. I am Donna OH Alex (called Sandy) and son Morgan aged 12. We have our visa 176 and are desperate to get moving over to Perth to start our new life. Unfortunately as is the case for a lot of people our house is on the market but as yet nothing.

Wishing things would hurry up as I am finding it really hard not being able to tell anyone especially at work. I am feeling a bit deceitful to be honest and just want to scream our news from the roof tops.

And we thought the application process was stressful

Hi, Just seen this thread as not been on here in a while due to one thing and another.

Well we have been really lucky and managed to sell our house to the 2nd viewer so have decided to not validate and just get ourselves to Perth in Jan.

I am really worried about finding somewhere to live for when we arrive, getting a job and organising a school for my youngest 14, and college for my 18 year old. Its really daunting starting all over again in a new country and we won't have anywhere near the money we wanted to go with.

We orginally wanted QLD but could not get it so got WA SS but the problem is we don't know anyone there so this thread is great for us.

Looking forward to chatting with you all

Hi Donna, My name is Jo, OH Steve, Mattt 13 and Dan 17. I was in the same boat as you until we managed to sell our house 3 wks ago, I felt really deceitful to work and thought I would feel really relieved when I told them but now I feel really sad to be leaving them as it is all so real now it is out in the open - no going back.

Our application process took 3.5 years and was stressful but no where near as bad as I am now and I feel its gonna get worse as the emotions kick in. Glad I have people in the same situation to chat to on here.

Really hope you sell your house soon

Jo

Yes we were like that when we knew we were coming across, its very daunting just arriving here with just a suitcase and nothing else. We have been here 16 months now in Perth and had a very stressful first few weeks getting everything sorted. It does get better with time. The hard part is trying to get a rental, a job and schools all in the same area at the same time without having to travel long distances. We decided which area we wanted to live in then got the rental, then the school and then the jobs. Our son is 15 and we got him into Maranatha Christian College which is a private school not far from where we live. I drop him off in the morning on the way to work and then he gets the bus back and lets himself in before we get home again. He seems to really like it there. He does quite a lot of outdoor education which involves Khayaking, camping and swimming. He's also going to Melbourne in September with the school as part of his history lessons!

We booked a furnished rental from the UK to stay in for the first month that we were here to give us chance to see where we wanted to be. Eight months after being here we bought our own house in Secret Harbour. We were sick of being dictated to by Real Estate Agents who are all take and no give and we wanted somewhere we could call our own and do with as we wanted. If you want any help with anything just get in touch. Do you know which part of Perth you want to be in as its quite a big place?

Hi all,

We are a family of 4, Phil, Donna, Cain and Lana, from Hull relocating later this year.

We are hoping to fly out mid September and are in the process of selling the house (hopefully the house sale will be finalised in a couple of weeks as the shippers are booked for 25th of this month!).

The stress levels have gone through the roof in the past fortnight as we have been getting everything sorted for the big move. Paperwork is the biggest worry as we aren't really sure what info we will need to file the school / house rental / job applications when we get there.

Looking to locate to the south coastal region (Rockingham, Parmelia, Medina etc) as we loved the area when we visited a couple of years back and there are a lot of industrial areas for work nearby. I've managed to secure some short time labouring work through an ex-pat friend until I can get something more suitable arranged.

Be great to maybe meet up with others in the same boat when we get there, so will keep an eye on this thread.
