Hi Everyone,

Great thread... we are Scott(electrician ) and Tina ( phlebotomist ) from kent. We are hoping to move out around august time. Probably North of perth, although not 100% decided.

We are in our early forties and would love to meet up with like minded people when we arrive, would be great to make friends as we dont know a sole in Oz, but really excited about the challenge of it all. We dont have any little kiddies, so no making friends at the school gates and kids clubs, which i think sometimes makes it a little easier for some.

Anyway, lots of luck to everyone. and maybe we can chat soon.

Hello everyone, after much discussion and decision making my Hubby has accepted a job in Perth (suberbs) on a 457 visa. Will hopefully be out there for May 2011. Not sure of exact location of job yet, there are a few options but we have requested south of the river as we have family there. Currently going through the enormity of the decision but sure we will be fine. Have been researching a few different areas and quite like the sound of Secret Harbour and surrounding area.

We are a family of 4, me, my husband and 2 boys 9 and 5 and are looking forward to the adventure. Would love to make contact with some people before we come out.

Hi Aimie and family,

Wow things must be getting really exciting for you now... cant wait till we are in that position.

Do you mind if i ask how Brian has secured a job in Wangara. And whos he working for.

Would be great to get a heads up for my OH regarding jobs etc.

Anyway good luck with all plans, and you never know we may eventually meet up in sunny oz one day.... still feels like a bit of a dream, but holding on to it. lol.

So, rather than keep talking about it, as people are slowly arriving out here in Perth and wanting to meet up with other PIO'ers, I thought I'd take the initiative and arrange a first 'meet up'.

Date: Sunday 30th Jan

Time: 3pm onwards

Location: South Perth Foreshore, Coode St end of Sir James Mitchell Park

The link here should show you the location on the map - we'll meet between the boatshed restaurant and the funcats 'hut' (the centre of the picture)

South Perth, Western Australia - Google Maps

There are a couple of BBQs in this area so maybe people could bring some meat and salad for an early evening BBQ? We'll bring along a cricket bat, some balls, frisbee etc so feel free to add to that should you wish!

Please rsvp so we know at least some people are going to turn up! We have a colourful fish windsock thingy so I'll try and put that up to identify us easily.

Thanks !

Jo and Seb

PS We'll def do another bbq a few weeks later so that those of you arriving early Feb can come and join us too.

Newbie here saying hello

Hoping to be heading to Perth end of Feb/beginning of March if our 457 visa arrives in time! Seems there are quite a few heading to Perth around that time.

We are a family of 5: Me (35), hubby (38) and 3 kiddies aged 10, 4 and 3

6 months ago we had no plans on moving so this has all been a bit of a whirlwind for us and I don't think I will believe it is really happening until we land on Oz soil!

Hello Perth People!

We'll be moving down under sometime in May we reckon. My husband, Simon has been offered a job on a 457 visa and we'll be taking our twins who are 20 and Zac 6 and Evie 3. Also hoping that our daughter 23 will be able to join us but still working on how!

The job is based in Floreat and we're looking at either Melville area or Stirling to rent in. Really looking forward to starting our new lives now and it can't come quick enough!

  • 1 month later...

just a little update

We arrived on 27/1 and at first i was thinking did i do the right thing etc....i think it was just because we had a few emotional goodbyes at the airport but now that its settling down we are really enjoying it.

We are staying with family at the moment and starting to look for places to rent. the public transport system is great.. trains are on time and spotlessly clean!

I start my new job as a nurse on monday and im a bit nervous but they seem really nice. My in laws have arrived for a visit so its been nice spending time with them.

I have found everyone to be friendly and have started Zumba classes which are a lot of fun, i prob wouldnt have done that at home.

I couldnt make the last meet up but will hopefully be available for the next one. Someone sent me an email but i somehow deleted it before i read it so sorry to whoever sent it.

Anyway i will stop waffling......take care, Cx

Hi Everyone! Providing our visa is approved we'd love to be in Perth before the end of 2012! We were thinking of the Success area or Warnbro. Both hubby's sisters are in Success but we'll just wait and see where we end up! Hoping to get work as a floor finisher. Would love to have meet ups with everyone once we're there! Sooo excited even though still have a while to go!

Guest BARNEYBRADLEY

Hi,

This is my first time on here so apologies if Im not doing it quite right!!! We were granted our visa's almost 3 years ago and visited Perth Nov 08 and fell in love with the Quinns Rocks areas.

Sadly as my hubby is a bricklayer and rates of pay have dropped drastically, we havent been able to save for the big move as quickly as we would have liked, given that we want to hold onto our UK property until we are absolutely sure we've made the right decision. We now aim to be there by June 2012 at the very latest.

I'm starting to have a few wobbles especially as our savings are now not going to stretch as far with the exchange rate being so weak!! (was 2.47 to the £ when we visited in 2008!!):jiggy::twitcy:

I'm also really concerned about my hubby picking up work and the cost of living/rental properties ect. We are making the move to give our girls aged 8 and 5 a better quality of life and I'm just worried that we may be worse off financially in Perth than we are here.

Any advice anyone can offer or if anyone knows anything about availabilty of work for brickies/ rates of pay ect would be greatly appreciated:biggrin:

Thanks

Sue

We are moving to Perth Summer 2011. Got Reccie in April for 2 weeks and we can not wait.

I am a PE teacher (33) and my huspand is in recruitment (32), we have 2 kids (2 and 6). We have a few friends in Perth already but I would love to share this scarey experience with others.

Jxx

Hi jmorris,

So jealous that you are moving so soon, we are a family of 4, my husband (32) is a car paint sprayer and I am 29 and a beauty specialist, we have two children 4 and 2 and a half. We qualify for the skilled independant visa and our documents have all been sent, all we have now is a very very long wait, we are looking at 2 years (according to visa processing times) which is March/April 2013 if not longer!! Seems like it isnt real!

Are you going to rent when you arrive in Perth? Whereabouts are you looking to go?

A x
