  1. Hi all you sparkies out there !!! My OH has just finished the college course at Balcatta for his WA A grade licence. The books that you need to buy for this course are now for sale as he no longer needs them. These cost £350 from the college, but we are willing to sell them to anyone who needs them for £200. ( Plus postage if you are from the uk ) You cannot do the course without these books unfortunately, This is the course that you need through Energy Safety in order to work in WA, so if any of you want these then please private message us. Electrotechnology Practices and Electrical Trade Principles AS/NZS 3008.1:2009 Electrical Installations AS/NZS 3000:2007 Wiring Rules. Thanks Tina
  2. Hi Guys, Not been on this thread for a little while, but just thought i would let you know how easy it has been to book onto the WA college of electrical training course, through energy safety. I am booked to do the course on 4th July at Balcatta campus, for 2 weeks. And then hey presto... A Grade Licence. Anyone been on this course yet ? Would appreciate a heads up on what to expect. Cheers Scott
  3. Hi Guys, Has anyone recently done the course in WA to gain the A grade licence with energy safety ? Do you know how often these courses run, and i believe they are for two weeks full time.. is that right. Any info would be really appreciated. Cheers Scott and Tina
  4. Hi Sim, Have just checked out this website, and it seems its all for electricians wishing to start up in the uk FROM oz... not from uk to oz. Im probably just being a bit thick here ?? Are you trying to get your qualification to work in oz ? Thanks
  5. Hi Iain, It doesnt ask for anything to be certified, it just says :employment history along with details of electrical work experience undertaken in the last five years. This can be supplied in your resume/cv and must include employment dates and location. And there are several forms of ID that you can produce, you dont need all of them. Things like:birth certificate, drivin license, marriage certificate, Records or licence of a proffesional trade association, document from a rating authority(land rates, or mortgage, council tax i presume). lots of other things listed, but you dont need all of them. This is all for the initial application to energy safety, and then they give you permission to do the course at the college, and then you apply to the college and pay the fees, ( around £800, for course and books). It doesnt seem to say any where that you already need your visa approval. But maybe you should check this ?? You can email Leslie Dryden, at college of electrical training in balcatta WA, she is very helpful admin6@cet.asn.au Hope all this helps. Tina and Scott
  6. Hi Andy, Yes you can do the course without your SS visa, they do not ask for this on the application form, only the OTSR from vetassess, your ID, and confirmation of work history from your current employers. We are now still deciding whether to do it or not, as not sure its gonna make a huge difference to be honest. We have sent cv to so many employers and they all seem to be reluctant to offer employer sponsorship. even if you do have the A grade. Its a lot of expense to go through if its not really gonna make much difference. We still waiting our SS, drivin us mad, butr awaiting the news on monday about all the new changes happening yet again !!!, will make more decisions then, Anyway good luck with your SS, and the next leg! lol. Scott and Tina.
  7. Will let you know how we get on..... Our SS should be here any day now too, we applied WA 31st July, drivin us mad waiting. We cant afford to go out for that long, so are tryin to sort it all now, we are too old to go on working visas, so wish us luck, just hoping we can get on that june course. Good luck on your SS...
  8. Hi Iain, We are going for the course starting on 14th june in balcatta, just getting id and bits and pieces together for energy safety application. Then application to college of electrical training. Hope they dont take too long, as the courses seem to be filling up fast. Can i ask what ID you used for the initial application. I have birth certificate, OTSR (vetasses), passport, cv/resume, and photo card that i use for my current employer in the uk to get onto site, and can probably get letter from my current employer confirming that i work for them. Dya think all this is enough??? Thanks again Good luck ! Scott and Tina.
  9. Hi Iain, Thanks for the info, is it at Joondalup college ?? And what dates? Would really appreciate it, Thanks guys. We are going over on 14th june, will that be too late for this course ?? Scott. Oh yeah... passed vetassess, and state sponsorship any day now for WA. Good luck to you too...
  10. Hi Derren, Do you know at what college the A grade license(energy safety) course is . We are goin over in june, and hoping to find a course whilst we are out there. Need to speak to someone at the college to arrange it, or someone who can let us know if its possible to do it end of june, beginning of july. Is it central Perth area, dya know ?????????? Cheers.
  11. Hi Dohertys, We are goin to do the same in june... coming out for a month to WA. OH is a sparky too. We were thinkin of trying to arrange the two week course for the A grade whilst we are there.... we may get a little more luck ?? What dya think. Is it commercial or industrial type work you have been lookin for? Just dont know how we are all gonna get there without employer sponsorship, its drivin us crazy too. We just dont want to wait till 2012 either. Anyway wishing you loads of luck with your search. Tina and Scott.
  12. Hi James, heres a challenge for ya ?? Hope you can help, My OH failed vetassess in feb and now re doing it in July... Here are the three things he apparently failed on: Core Units 1. Applying OHS practices in workplace. 2. Install low voltage elec apparatus and associated equipment. 3. Find and repair faults in electrical apparatus and circuits. Not sure which part of the test these bits were, and dya think he will have to sit the whole day again... So annoying, but determined not to fail again, revising hard ...again!! Cheers Tina and Scott PS. If anyone else can help please feel free to let us know, cheers guys....
  13. Hi James, My other half Scott is doing his vetassess tomorrow in london, and you have been a great source of info... so firstly thanks for that ! Also wondering if it is acceptable to take in notes with you, Formulas...etc. Or if he does should he hide them! Do the assessors allow notes or not??? Thanks again Tina and Scott
  14. Hi Mark, was checking how long your application took after passing vetasses... It was really quick!! only bout three months. How come so quick, or was you just one of the lucky ones. hehe.. It was a 175 skilled visa you applied for wasnt it ?? Tina
  15. Hi James, thanks for the info... It really does get very confusing!! My OH scott is doing his practical in feb, so this thread will help him with some revision that i keep trying to push him to do, but you know what you men are like, he just keeps saying " dont worry, everything will be fine !" yeah right ! How can i not worry, cant wait to leave this place . Hehe... Anyway thanks for the help, and good luck to all you sparkies out there, its a long road but well worth it we hope !! Tina.
