They are treating us like cash cows!!!!

Dear Mr xxx,

Thank you for your email regarding ***'s VB 885 General Skilled Migration visa application and nominated skilled occupation.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship acknowledges that some pre-1 July 2010 ‘nec’ Skills Assessments with specialisations assessed under ASCO Code 2231-79 do not map directly to ANZSCO coded occupations.

Applicants with specialisations should contact ACS regarding their circumstances. As *** has done so, and consequently been provided with an ANZSCO Skills Assessment from ACS, please send it to the department with a completed Form 1023 Notification of Incorrect Answer(s) requesting his occupation code be changed to ANZSCO. The department will then determine which priority group ***'s occupation is included in and process accordingly.

Yours sincerely,

General Skilled Migration - Adelaide

Wait ... they said Applicant with specialisations.. now how about the IT Graduates then :/

Thank you. Some news is better than no news. At least we have hope again. Although still feeling very uncomfortable being ripped off.

I don't mind another skill assessment.. anything is better than our previous situation (DIAC wouldn't even admit they've made a mistake)..

They have not make any official announcement. I called my agent to confirm if this applies to me too. Very interesting how this will go from here.

This is great, guanqunc. Could you further ask the officer to clarify if this applies to 2231-79 ICT Recent Graduates without specialisation as well please?

I wouldn't complain too much as this is much better than sitting in Cat4 for eternity.

375 is peanuts compared to lodging brand new application with new assessment. Not to mention not everyone has that option either.

As tyasawa said it's much better than our previous situation.

Well Chajath When they are assessing new graduates with new ANZCO occupations, why can't they do it for us?

ZDefinately we can do it and they are saying to us give us 375 more and we will assess you again.

I asked my agent and he said this applies to 2231-79 ICT Recent Graduates without specialisation as well. That looks like a ray of hope after a long time but why they want us to spend another $375 for re-assessment, it was not even our fault. Why can't ACS re-assess our degrees without paying again? However, DIAC should make an official announcement about this whole thing. Lets pray this gets sorted out soon but eventually I wouldn't mind paying again if it moves us up in the queue.

Well, my boyfriend just lodged another 885 last week.. feel so bad for him now.

Since this is too good to be true.. I'm waiting for official announcement. Not that I don't trust quanqunc... more like I don't trust DIAC :(

Hopefully it applies to graduates as well, it is highly possible for us to get the ANZSCO too. I am still scared that they will only allow ones with specialty tho.

Edit: Ah so it is confirmed that it applies to graduates too.. :D *just read prev post*

Indeed I agree with you tysasawa, however I believe we should wait for some official confirmation from DIAC before getting our hopes up. Like you I simply dont trust them after the plethora of changes in visa processing over the past year...

I really dont mind paying 375 dollars rather than lodging a new 885/175 visa application or sitting in cat 4 for an eternity as Username mentioned..

I can't help but wonder what makes them acknowledge this oversight.

So which part of the website should I refresh every 5 minutes? GSM What's new section? I hope they do not wait until the new government formed. Another restless days coming... :D

I just received a call from my mate. He got his assessment letter for a ASCO code in April and received his PR now. While I got the same code in August and is in an eternal wait. I called DIAC this morning and they said if I can get a new ANZSCO code that is in SOL they will have a "look". What a give.:arghh::mad:

Dear all,

I'm also an ICT graduate who applied in late 2009 and am shocked to see how DIAC is treating us. I guess it would be great to form an online petition so that we could have it signed and let our voice be heard. We are suffering from years of living in limbo, having no eligibility for many available positions because of being on temporary visas despite our knowledge and expertise, having no right to freely travel and worse, seeing how new graduates or even other specialists (e.g. accountants) are more welcome than us. It's an outrage and I hope they consider doing something. If it was taking years for all applicants, we would have no complaints, but it's so unfair to see how this stupid priority thing is leaving us behind many other applicants only because they are applying sometime LATER(!) or only because of having another qualification.

We are not a bunch of asylum seekers. We are people lawfully living in this country. We all have paid thousands of dollars on education and living costs. Most of us are now paying taxes to the government and contributing to the economy. We are all professional people who had spent years studying and programming and we do not deserve to be treated like garbage.

Guys! I'm not that professional in writing official letters but I hope someone comes up with an online petition or something. We can all sign it then and forward it to the authorised people in future. Nobody thinks about us. We have to take action and raise our voices.

I'm so glad to be part of this group and I hope we finally get what we deserve, no more, no less!

Cheers to all...

Got a letter from Speldewinde replying to the letter I sent to Evans...yet again they fail to answer/address my concerns..........properly

I cannot imagine how these people get to hold top jobs in the gov. when they cann't simply answer or reply to a simple letter in ENGLISH!!

I give up writting to these loosers ......................either they don't understand or pretend not to understand the question/s

Hi Manj !

They simply don't give a damn about international students once the government milked them to the very last dollar. Of course they understand everything they are certainly not stupid. They simply choose not to respond to the question(s).

Out of sight, out of mind.

Good on you for at least doing something about it. I certainly applaud you for your persistence. Many people don't even bother fighting for their rights.

I can't agree more. It turns out Australia welcomes lazy people more than diligent people. It's like someone lures you with something really attractive, but tells you have to pass IELTS 7, and work more than 1 year using what you've learnt. Then after you have done all of them he says "Ha, I was just joking. You are crap now, we don't need you."

So people who do all the things are treated like crap, whereas people who don't need to do anything, like those fresh grad accounting students (no offense) or even fresh grad of IT are welcome in Australia. So just be LAZY. Australia welcomes lazy people. Diligent people are crap in DIAC's view.

Hi all,

Although this forum is a fantastic place to share our thoughts, I thought we might need a group on Facebook so that we can easily organise events, get united and most importantly see how big and strong our community can be.

It is accessible from here: 2231-79 Australian ICT Graduates (Pre-July 2010) | Facebook

I've added this forum's link to the group to keep them correlated.

Hope you guys become members of the group and invite other defected friends or colleagues to join up in order to form a large group and find pathways to raise our voices and take further actions.

Those intended to become group admins, please let me know. It would be great to have a number of administrators, especially those who are overactive here!

Cheers to all... Hope to see you on Facebook

Did anyone call DIAC yet and get some sort of additional confirmation about resubmitting ANZSCO code? I would love to call but since I used an agent I don't think I can ask them about my application directly... :( My agent haven't got back to me yet, I'll call her today to remind her.
