2231-79 Computing Professional (ICT Recent Graduate) and the new priority

It takes 2 to tango. You can't really single out either ACS or DIAC for this. Both are responsible while neither will admit it. Even though they do nothing more than buck passing, between them they have a system.

Now I am sure ACS had a hand in devising these ASCO-ANZSCO classifications or at least gave 50% help to DIAC. DIAC having no idea how it works asks us to go to ACS and ACS trying to stay out of trouble asks you to contact DIAC saying they only deal with PASA and nothing else.

Now that is utter bullcrap because I don't think DIAC has what it takes to do these ASCO-ANZSCO classifications or the mapping between classifications. They need someone's input from the industry itself and who else will do that aside from ACS.

Thing is, its probably easier to communicate with Kim Jong-il than ACS. You can't reason with the unreasonable.

I just called DIAC and what I got was changing the skill code to a new one (once I have the reassessment done) requires submitting a new application (according to minister's(!!!) legislation guidelines). The other thing I got was "I understand your situation but I'm sorry!". Guys, we are screwed big time. I don't see any hope unless we make a move. We already paid our fees, so they no longer care about us nor need us.

=/ they changed their answer? last time it was, do you reassessment then we will think about it. Now back to the hopeless route.. is this for IT Graduates only or including the one with specialisation?

I remember reading reply for swan2748 from DIAC it sounds so definite for the ones with specialisation can submit 1023 -- the post

I told them what if I apply for a reassessment and get a specialisation and that's what I got. They said the nomination code cannot be changed whatsoever so the only solution left would be to lodge a new application (which of course includes all the forms, fees and paperwork). It's just plain stupid, but that's how it is right now.

I reckon ACS should be blamed for this mess. Their assessment policy change made us all miserable. For years, they were assessing people like us as ICT graduates (nec) and suddenly anyone can get a specialisation based on his/her passed units! It's so unfair I have no idea what to do next.

Just checked with my agent about the new PASA and form 1023, he said we can't change nominated occupation.

So until its officially substantiated, I'd recommend against making any moves. Last thing you want is waste another dime with no positive outcome.

Very true....This is the same thing my solicitor said..... even if we get a new assesment with ANZSCO from ACS we cannot just submit a form 1023 and change the nominated occupation....it requires legislation change.....which means, what DIAC is telling us cannot be achieved just 'cos we get a fresh assesment from ACS.....

I think ACS+DIAC+Skills Australia all 3 should bear responsibility for this muck -up including EVAn's!!!

Ok so what are you guys reckon ?

Should we obtain skills assessment from ACS ?

To be honest I think we have no way out but to relodge again when the SMP's come out and consider the amounts we paid for the present VISA applicant a bad investment or something!!!

I curse the responsible for this muck up - they should rot in H&^^ for putting us and our loved ones lives into such chaos!!!

I'm writing a complaint letter and mailing it to DIAC. The details are here: Contact Us – Compliments and Complaints – Department of Immigration and Citizenship

Guess if we keep mailing or calling them everyday, they'll at least think of doing something. we need to keep pushing them till they finally admit their mistake and start changing their nonsense conditions.

All of us should do something. Also we need to tell our friends and ask them to take action as well. I told 3 of my friends already and the interesting thing was none of them had any clue of how we've been trapped!

So, what do you reckon?

So changing occupation is definitely out of question. DIAC is pretty stubborn about it for some reason.

The only way we can be rescued from this cat4 is via direct mapping to an occupation in schedule 3. Despite all the screw-ups and setbacks, I do believe they will eventually do a complete mapping of all IT occupations including ICT Recent Graduate. A (free) bump up to cat3 depends heavily on where we get mapped to.

Aside from submitting a new application and fork out thousands all doors are close for me. I refuse to lodge another application and really can't see any other options available.

Yeah, obviously it takes legislative change for them to allow us to change nominated skill. However, this case is where our old ASCO code doesn't have any automatic mapping for the new ANZSCO, and DIAC has an administrative power to adjust priority. Would you guys be able to ask agents to check directly with DIAC to see where the situation is at please?

hi ,

look at this guys

what u say :-

Wayne Swan, as expected, remains treasurer.

Chris Bowen becomes the new immigration minister replacing Chris Evans, who moves to a jobs portfolio.

Gillard announces her team

Well, seems like a change is gonna come! At least his face looks kinder than the previous minister! Let's take that as a good sign. I'm pretty optimistic if we keep pushing DIAC under his management, we'll finally be treated like accountants! Gosh, it just seems like a dream ;)

Guys anyone is interested in starting a new IT group? Since we are most, if not all IT people and I will never be an ACS member in my life. So I guess I will either join another group or start a new one that can bridge the gap between the skill shortage in the industry and IT professionals immigrants or non-immigrants. We can also discuss immigration issues in the group.

Bowen hasn't got that Bogan look that Evans has... However I still don't like his face

I have just submitted a fresh new application.

Is that for acs reassessment ?

What if they dont accept , will you spend the money to lodge a new pr application which is very expensive..................

We shouldn't surrender! For many of us, lodging a new PR application means redoing the IELTS exam, health check, police check and a lot more. Despite the costs, it's a painful process and worst of all, we have no idea if they decide to suddenly change all the rules again, especially now that a new minister is to be in power.

Yes it's for ACS re-assessment. Well, ACS re-assessment is something I can live with. I really don't like the idea of having to put in another PR app. Don't think I will go that far. If DIAC betrays us (like they did many times before) and ACS re-assessment doesn't work, then it will be a good-bye Australia for me.
