The weather.....but not for everyone

Beaches.....ditto

Some things are quite expensive

Huge country

Other cons that are making me look at going 'home' don't really apply to the majority.

I live in Queensland and honestly wouldn't live in any other State.

I live in Tasmania and I think it is the most beautiful place in the world. :wubclub:

The Pros

-- Waking up each morning to see the mountain, the beach and the water.

-- A lovely, quiet beach is just across the road.

-- We have the cleanest air in the world.

-- At night you can see the milky way and if you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the Aurora Australis.

-- The wildlife!

-- Food is lovely and fresh: if you are a foodie you will like living here.

-- Tasmania is truly beautiful and much of it is green.

The Cons

-- Many companies will charge more to deliver goods and services to Tasmania but there are a good few who don't so do make sure you shop around.

-- Lower wages and higher cost of living compared (see above) to the mainland in general.

-- Millipedes!

NSW

Pros........

You really can have a beach all to yourself.

You really can be the only one sat on a mountain top.

There is something magical about being out in the bush under canvas.

The amount of vineyards will keep me happy for years.

No keeping up with the neighbours.

The sunrises and sunsets are amazing.

Sunday markets with coffee and sausage sizzles.

Cons.....

The traffic

The driving.

Barking dogs.

Cockatoos that keep ripping my door screens.

The state of the roads in NSW.

The price of fish.

The cost of flights to the UK.

Guest Weemac

WA (not Perth)

Pros:

Climate.

No traffic jams.

Give a bloke a go attitude.

Country attitude.

10 mins in a car will get you to most places.

Great beaches.

Great fishing.

Relaxed life.

Looking at cloudless skies.

and lots more..

Cons:

Very poor customer service.

Lack of recycling.

Prices climb compared to Perth.

Limited nightlife.

Lack of rugby.

I was told when I first arrived here..."Geraldton has everything you NEED...not necessarily everything you WANT...but everything you NEED" I will say that it is a very accurate statement.

Love it here!!

Guest sh7t man no way
These lists make great reading for those waiting to go....:wideeyed:

So please list:

Which state you live in?

& your 'pro's & con's' about living in Australia....:spinny:

If you can, balance out the 'pro's' with the 'con's'!.....Thankyou :cute:

i live on,and off in queensland--pros more relaxed than the uk (once you get use to the system, and the people) a better lifestyle for the family, the cost of living is just above the uk in relation to the wage (but you dont spend much on the beach)the people have a more positive attitude to life than the uk,-------------------------------------------cons,the frustrations of trying to come to terms with what australia requires from you(time takes care of this),the distance from family, and loved ones, and the amount of stress you have untill you settle (australia is a 2 year thing after that it seems to make more sense)---theres heaps more pros, and cons, but the above are the basics.

Crumbs, Susie! Nought but Tel$tra? You poor thing. I hope your area is high on the list for the government broadband roll-out so you can get away from that lot. Our rubbish is collected once a week down here in Hobart. For the benefit of John and Charlie, our recycling is collected from the house once a fortnight. They don't provide a bin for food waste here as they did where I lived in the UK.

Yes HappyLass it is atrocious.. we have been accepted for a government grant for satelite which will be happening in the next week or so.. we are lk away from the Exchange hence I am on a Telstra dongle which costs more than my electricity bill per quarter:twitcy:....We do have friends who are self employed and they find the signals are dreadful even in areas like Straughan, Queenstown etc .. ... A girlfriend over in Coles Bay couldnt even get a signal as well lol... I admit I am on here a fair bit (awaiting to go back to Karratha, just sold the house there so back beginning of the month) and then back to work for me but the UK has us spoilt as far as communications costs are concerned. I did notice your bins out in Hobart last week:laugh: We have a fortnightly recycle... They charge for the "dump" here but in WA it is free.... I try and compost most perishable waste:hug:

Victoria :

Take notice of Kate, not Bobj !

Pros

Can get things here you might not in other states foodwise (foodie paradise, can get British type food if you know where to go) and we have fantastic restaurants from all over the world.

We have some great shopping complexes and little shopping High Streets (Prahran, Richmond) where you can get most things you want and factory outlets too.

Recycling: yes we are big on that, we get three bins in most places, one for rubbish, one for bottles/cardboard to recycle and one for green waste when you trim back your garden.

If you like the London type rugup winters, then Victoria is for you, without the humidity of some other places.

Not too far from Tasmania - catch the ferry across from Port Melbourne and take the car for around $90 or so.

Some of the best schools in the country are here.

There are some nice country towns which are very liveable if that's what you would like, some acreage etc (Bendigo, Ballarat, Bairnsdale)

Cheap airfares make it less expensive to get to other places within Australia than it once was

Cons

Inner city housing has got very expensive

There are some windy days/nights that will go through your bones (like yesterday 18C but the wind made it freezing to be out in)

Water restrictions, the four minute shower is no fun, although restrictions have been somewhat relaxed

Don't expect in the summer with water restrictions to have a green lawn - brown tinged lawn is the go

Other States make fun of us, especially when you go over state borders with Victoria number plates on - I think cops pull you over because you are Victorian I am sure of it ! :policeman: Hire a car with local plates !

Thats about all I can think of at 9am Monday morning:SLEEP:

So my OH reckons that the pro's and cons to Victoria and more specifically Melboure are:

Pro's:

Amazing costal scenery (Great Ocean Road, Mornington Peninsula etc)

Beaches, beaches, beaches

Williamstown in Melbourne (where he was born and bred but THE most incredible view from the harbour of the skyline)

St Kilda for nightlife

Aussie Rules

Tennis

Formula 1

Live music gigs

Cascade Beer (though rather stealing this from Tasmania, sorry)

Cons:

It gets windy!

Sun singed gardens in summer

Water restrictions

40 degrees one minute, 14 degrees an hour later (or the cool change as I gather its known as)

Public Transport when the weather is off its guts
