  1. So spent the day in Geelong. Lovely place. The beautiful weather today may have enhanced things mind you. We explored many of the suburbs mentioned in this thread, and by far our favourite was Geelong West, followed by Rippleside. So now to weigh things up and do some serious thinking.
  2. Sadly, that commute may be a stretch too far. But if I could get a reasonable job there I would be there in a flash!
  3. A loo and everything! :jiggy:
  4. Last minute platform dash. That sounds familiar! Have also heard they may be increasing the frequency of Vline services, but it might be for outside peak times. Not sure. Least with commuting there is time to read (or in my case get extra kip)
  5. On paper the vline train takes same time as my metro train, only diffetence would be needing to get to Hawthorn from Southern Cross rather than Flinders Street which is a bit of a faff. Though realise on paper and in reality are very different sometimes. Do you find the Vline reliable? We're heading to Geelong at the weekend to check out some of the places you guys have suggested so cheers for the advice - appreciated.
  6. It isn't a decision made. Just a possibility. We are unable to live where we would like and are priced out of the market in 'nice' suburbs in Melbourne, so decided that Geelong was worth seriously considering. Especially on discovering that on paper my conmute to work would be no further than it is now from outer Melbourne.
  7. Hello stranger . Thanks! life has had its ups and downs, but as my user name suggests, I lean towards optimism. Failing that I drink vodka :daydreaming:.
  8. Thanks, that's good advice. I work in Hawthorn. Its a bit of a killer isn't it!
  9. \ Glad to hear. And I can handle sleepy, just not extinct like the suburb I live in at the moment! Seems to be a healthy stock of houses on the market in the suburbs you suggested- and the prices are very good compared with Melbourne. Now just need to get my head around an epic commute to Melbourne eastern inner suburbs, and if I can convince myself its possible it could be an option. Take care
  10. That's great, thanks for the heads up.
  11. Hi to you too stranger! That is exceptionally helpful, thank you. How is life treating you in Geelong?
  12. Thanks Petals. Appreciate you taking the time to reply. I am living in Melbourne at present and a 'reccie' to Geelong is on the cards, just wondered whether anyone could tell me in advance so we could focus the search a little more. Thanks again.
  13. Hi all, Just wondered if anyone has any opinions on good suburbs in Geelong. Preference would be an area within walking distance to bars/cafe's and close to transport links to Melbourne. And in an ideal world an area with character. Thanks for your time.
  14. To those Western Suburb guys, I am also in the Western Suburbs, would be good to arrange a meet up at some stage. I am 35, originally from the south but spent 10 years in Leeds. My B/F is an Aussie and has his own friends, but I am always up for making new friends. Have lived here for almost 4 years. There is a great pub in Werribee called the Park Hotel if anyone fancied making that the venue?….
  15. I have an Aussie boyfriend and we were in the UK at the worst of the GFC. He owned a house in Melbourne which he was renting out, and after 18 months of struggling it made financial sense for us to move here. I have spent time in Aus so knew more or less what I was getting myself into - and almost 4 years later things are good. Australia is in no way easier than the UK - in fact I would say the opposite. Longer working hours, less annual leave, expensive health care (compared to NHS), expensive housing in the major cities - but it offers a lot also. I hate aussie summers. Can't understand anyone who enjoys 44 degree summer days :err:.
  16. How are you Tonyman? Hope all is good!
  17. Probably doesn't count, but this morning I believe I resembled a bull dog chewing a wasp.
  18. Hi Pom Queen :wubclub: Thanks, that's really sweet of you. Hope you are well
  19. Hi. Sure that there are guys on here who can be more specific, but Gumtree would be a good place to start. Good luck
  20. Its massive news! So pleased for you! Hope you're settling in well? Yes, lived here over 3 and a half years. Its gone so quickly. But haven't lost my hybrid Southener/Leeds twang Nor have I lost my love for Wine
  21. Nothing much has happened, but you're in PERTH??!! I would't say that's nothing much! That's awesome! How is Perth treating you so far? x
  22. Thanks Ali :wubclub: Hope you are doing well too. Good to see the site is thriving!
  23. Just a quickie to say hello. Haven't been on here for ages, but can see loads of familiar names. How are you all? And hey to all newcomers to this most excellent site .:wubclub: As for me, life is hectic, but good. Still living down under and it is well and truly home - England is beginning to feel like a figment of my imagination but still do (and always will) identify with being a pom. Especially where sporting events are involved ... . Anyway, cheers, and happy Friday!
