I front-loaded the police checks but not the medical, I'll get in contact with the department and see what they say. It would just be nice to know they've actually started the process, having to wait 9-12 months is long enough. :cry:

It starts from when you lodge, so don't worry about that aspect. Its not that the clock starts ticking 3 months in when a CO emails or some such. 9-12 months is the timeframe, they are usually dealt with within this. I've rarely heard of one taking longer.

Hey everyone,

im quite late in filling you in, but I applied August 14th 2014 and finally was granted the permanent partner visa just over 11 months later July 2015!

hopefully things are going a lot quicker for you guys and it's such a long wait but worth it in the end xxx

Hi Iceman, definitely check out the shipping forum as there's lots of helpful info in there. We used Seven Seas, they're pretty popular and seem to have a good reputation. We wanted to do their 'movecube' but being on the IOM they use a 3rd party so we couldn't do it. Ended up shipping about 16 boxes of "stuff" for just under £600. Their online quote calculator is pretty good too.

We shipped our stuff off this week with Anglo Pacific. Great company, good communication and cheap prices. We had 10 boxes (37 cubic feet) and only cost £310.20 :-)

WOO HOO! WOO HOO!!

Hi everyone, just thought I'd share the fab news that my visa was granted two days ago (hangover only just gone for me to be able to post on here!!)

Gone straight to the 100 too. I have been given until the 28 May 2016 to validate, which is 12 months from when I did my police check, which I did after my medical.

For all those that worry about contact from CO's - apart from an initial letter of acknowledgement when I submitted my application, I never had any contact with my CO and trusted that if they needed anything they would let me know. So no news, is good news!

Thank you to all those that post words of support and advice on this forum and help many of us through what is a stressful process. I wish everyone a happy ending to their journey.

Thanks Tracy, I was told in my initial letter of acknowledgement after I submitted my application when to apply for my police check and do my medical - which was 6 months after applying.

I have heard of people that had no contact at all until they were granted the visa so it's probably nothing to worry about. Having said that, if it were me I'd probably send an email with a question about the application eg when to get your police/meds done....just to be absolutely sure I was "in the system" so to speak.

You can. Its an offshore application and its granted. Its not like being onshore (while awaiting an off shore partner visa) and needing to leave the country for the actual grant to occur.

Congrats!!!!!!! Quick question - Did your CO contact you to tell you to organise your medical and police check? Or did you do that without prompting from them?

Your CO will inform you when you need to undertake a medical and provide a police check. If you applied off shore in the UK its usually around the 6 month mark after lodging your application they will request this (iirc they usually get in touch after a few months with this request but its not an exact science ) . This ensures if they grant around the 12 month mark that you'll have a good 6 months in which to validate your visa. If they grant sooner, you get that bit longer as the validation timeframe is taken from the date of the medical or police check, whichever is done first. No point doing it early as it doesn't speed anything up and only gives you less time the other end.
