I agree, considering the time it takes to grant them as well, 13 month plus onshore. Think they are trying to stop peple coming onshore to apply for them.

would you have any other options for PR, may be cheaper and faster.

becoming a refugee and floating in on a boat right????

if you don't like it don't move nobody is forcing anyone. Im going to have to pay the new price for the second part of my visa as well.
considering the OP has an Australian wife and child, being surprised by the cost increase for the visa is not unreasonable.

There is no payment for the second part of the partner visa.

Employers sponsored - skilled migration?

Unfortunately no. However, fortunately for us we have the funds to cover the increase, but its roughly what we had put aside for the application and any unforeseen issues that could arise. It just takes our contingency budget away for a lawyer and appeal fees if that were necessary for any reasons.

It's just sad. What if we didnt have the new funds, our child would suffer but owell right. Its just disheartening when you feel penalized for doing everything legally and by the book.

I didn't realise it was going up either, until it was too late. Bit of a bugger falling for an Aussie isn't it?! I like how some people say if you don't like it don't move. Brilliant plan that ,leaving your partner and kids!!

Yeah, no doubt. She actually prefers the USA, but has a team of specialists here and cant travel now. I dont care where i live either way, its just about being with family. The only thing i miss about the states is the food and the cost of living, but the two countrys are similar in many ways. I tell people its almost like going to another part of the us with different accents like boston for example. Plus, we technically come from the same mother (brits) we just had different fathers

If you are the holder of a Prospective Marriage visa the cost to apply for the partner visa is $1145. Pre 1 jan cost was $995.

Actually, the cost was $1145 quite some time before that. The 820 cost for a PMV holder didn't go up with the last price increase, fortunately.
