Emigration is...

Really difficult when you are not the one’s doing it. They are excited and looking ahead, you are despondent and looking back, remembering good times and trying to come to terms with the fact that the future will be emptier without them. They want to share their happiness every time another milestone in the emigration journey is ticked off, whereas you just see every milestone as another reason to feel ticked off. Emigration sucks when you share the ups and downs with little of the excitement, none of the anticipation and a heavy, heavy heart. BUT….if emigration means they are happy, gives them opportunities to grow as individuals and a family…. then you grit your teeth, paste a smile that probably slips now and again, and make sure the promise to visit them soon is not an empty promise. Tx

Ah man. We already feel pretty guilty as it is. [emoji47]

We don't expect it'll be forever. But even 4 years is quite a long time

Sorry Matt, just answered from my own experience and not to make anyone feel bad. It gets easier, time helps as does discovering you can still be part of each other’s lives, it just takes more effort. All the best with your own journey Tx

Brought a lump to my throat. I remember my Mum's big hug and the tears in her eyes when we said goodbye 34 years ago. Mind you she did enjoy her long holidays she spent with us as time went by. She died 19 years ago but I have lovely memories of her having a great time here.
