BobPetairUK
Happy Easter Weekend to you all. We need some help. DAFF are considering increasing their fees for a 10 day stay to around $1800 AUD which is a fortune. We would love you to sign the petition we have started and share it with people who are going to or have gone to Australia with their pets. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/australia-quarantine-fees Thanks for your help and I hope we can ask DAFF to reconsider this policy. Metoo
Just signed. Extortionate amount of fees, they will probably do it just because they can  Edited to say, thanks Bob for binging this to our attention
rossco2810
Signed the petition and will get the wife to do the same. Is there a news article on this or is it insider knowledge Bob? If theres an article it may be worth circulating that too to gain more interest. The reduction in quarantine days had just about made it affordable for us to take our cat with us next year but if this comes in......it doesnt bear thinking about
rossco2810
Found the article: http://www.daff.gov.au/bsg/biosecurity-fee-review-2014/post-entry-quarantine-animal-imports-non-horse Their reasoning does not make sense - how can a cat cost the same as a dog? The cost to feed a cat must be 1/4 that of a dog & they can fit many more cats into their building thus generating more income which balances out the lower fees. Furthermore the drop in length of stay from 30 days to 10 days surely means with the same capacity they can increase the number of pets they take in roughly threefold? Therefore surely a moderate increase in the entry/exam fees etc would make more sense? It is incredible that they have not (a) not reviewed their fees for 5 years & (b) want to correct this by one large rate change!
BobPetairUK
Here is the link about this http://www.daff.gov.au/bsg/biosecurity-fee-review-2014 if it comes in it will be as soon as 01st July 2014, but we have until 28th April to post our concerns. Thanks for the signatures so far and the more we get the better.
GetMeDownUnder
I see that they are trying to make it cost neutral to the government, hence the increase. But $4500 in Quarantine station fees for 2 cats and a dog (or £3000) for a 10 day stay is quite disgusting.
fifi69
Petition signed... that is a horrendous cost.
BobPetairUK
Thanks for the help, we have reached 100 signatures and need plenty more http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/a...uarantine-fees#sthash.Yz4k78pf.dpuf
GetMeDownUnder
Bob, would we be able to book with you now (before the price hike) for a date in about 6-8 months time? I read that the quarantine centre require payment at the time of booking, so it seems to be a possibility that they may do this?
BobPetairUK
To be honest, we dont really know at the moment. But hopefully we can alter the course of this planned move.

BobPetairUK
Hi and FYI and update really. The hope was that people could book and pay for quarantine on their current prices - however we have tried this and DAFF are not issuing invoices until after the cost consultation has finished, so we cant do this. Petition is up to 233 signatures, but the more we can get the better http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/australia-quarantine-fees Thanks
Emma132
My 2 cats are booked into quarantine in August 2014 and we've already paid the invoice. If prices are to go up from July 2014 I hope we're not going to be asked to pay the extra!
Catsrus
Have signed - we have 12 cats and although we are hoping to rehome some are still looking at a substantial bill from this. X

Have you thought about finding a rental with several animals? It was hard enough renting a place with one cat, (that they never knew about) ! Good luck! It's nothing to do with the size of the animal,my two mini foxies are smaller than the average cat. It's all about deterring people from bringing their pets into Australia The authorities just don't want them to be brought into Australia. tina0101
It's done now and the fees are increasing. Means our budget for our cats is too high and we've had to make the difficult decision to leave them behind (with family, so I can still Skype them). Will add that Petair were fantastic as we'd got a fair way along arranging them dealing with the cats' move and then cancelled right at the end. BobPetairUK
Thanks a million. This is a super hard thing for us to get involved with too as it ruins so many peoples plans. Thanks for being so understanding and i hope when the Aussies see numbers of pets drop and their blessed "financial gap" gets bigger they may come to their senses! Bound4Tassie
Do you know if there are any concessions for dogs from the same family that can share a kennel?
BobPetairUK
Hi No, not any more. No discounts for the second pets sharing a kennels, I am afraid
captbunzo
The quarantine cost is ludicrous. It was the final nail that has led us to decide not to take our cats with us to Oz, but instead to rehome them with friends.
2bpepperrogers
it's an obscene amount of money but we're going to pay; can't leave our 2 cats behind they're part of the family. There should be some sort of law that makes them have to justify the fees they charge.
Nearlythere1
Hi, We've just paid our $3500 to secure quarantine places for our two small dogs in Sydney, in January. Similar price for a 10 night stay in a five star hotel there.. All in all our transportation, quarantine and vets costs for the two will be in the region of £7500 or approx $13500 AUD.

There use to be a loop hole to get in to the UK without the quarantine it's years ago now and I bet they have closed it, otherwise if it worked the opposite way it would have been great
