  1. Hi Emma, we moved to point cook from the uk in May this year. We have a 3yo & a 9 yo. I take my 3 year old to wonderland in hoppers crossing if you fancy a coffee & chat there sometime. I will have a go at pm'ing you my details. Best wishes melissa
  2. Our cat failed twice but passed on the third go - she ended up staying with golden arrow for two months whilst we went across as planned - again it worked out well as by the time she came over we were in our long term rental and she was very pampered & happy with them. X
  3. Also update your LinkedIn - it's used a lot out here. Change your location to oz about 2 weeks before moving.
  4. Hello, my hubby is in IT and we recently moved from the uk to melbourne. Here is our experience with finding a job in oz. we applied for roles before we moved - we got hubby's cv rewritten for the oz market & a new covering letter written - this was invaluable. We would apply for roles then hubby would call that night (daytime in oz). Sometimes the recruiters would speak to him & offer guidance etc - sometimes not). Everyone said wait until you are actually in oz then contact us. we carried on applying but only got 1 interview lined up before we went - one bit of advice put 'permanent resident' in bold at top of cv & covering letter. As soon as we booked our short term rental we put that address & an oz mobile on the cv as contact details. then we arrived in oz! Over an 8 week period we must have applied for approx. 250 roles - each one with a specific covering letter. The interviews began to trickle in. Some jobs needed 3 to 4 interviews until job offer - some offered job then a company restructure happened & job was pulled. It was hard work - one day hubby had 6 interviews in one day! But it paid off as like buses 2 job offers materialised at once - 9 weeks after arriving in oz he started in a senior IT role with a global company. So my advice, re look at your cv - apply for lots of roles - phone recruiters & meet with them - accept it may be a few months in oz before you get a role. Sorry posting this on my phone hence why it's a bit bullet pointy!
  5. Telle, you can phone dibp direct as long as you have your TRN number - they will ask your date of birth & full name and then give you an update direct as to how your application is. I phoned thrm - they were very helpful - checked my application for me whilst I was on the phone then approved my visa ten mins later & I got my grant. There number is 0061 731 367 000 - I called around 1am uk time & they answered within seconds. Hope this helps. X
  6. Sorry not sure if I was clear but from YouTube I worked out I was getting the structure of the essay question wrong therefore however great the essay was they could not give me an 8. Just something for you to check.
  7. Hiya, I also failed my writing a few times too. I got them all remarked whilst I resat - they all came back with the same mark still - 7.5 when I needed 8. I asked on the forum for advise and someone said about YouTube videos on ielts writing. These really helped me as they basically explained the writing answer format that is expected. After this I ended up with 8.5! So it can be done but def resit if you can whilst waiting for remarks! Hope this helps. X
  8. On a good note you only need a total of 60 points to get an invite to apply! So perhaps you won't need all the experience points!
  9. Hi, my understanding is that for the full points you need 8 years relevant experience in the previous ten years. This experience has to be at least 20 hours a week! Hope this helps. X
  10. Hello, I have bumped my post up for you. I had the same problem. The YouTube link really helped my understand the format the examiners were looking for! Best of luck. I did remarks twice and never got an increase in score.
  11. Bump for Byron smith! The YouTube guy really helped me!
  12. Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me please. I am in the process of filling in my 189 visa application and it asks for my partner's job history & qualifications. We are not claiming points for his job or quals therefore should I still add them to the application form. I just don't want to add them if we then have to show pay statements etc as it's such a faff finding them out. Thank you best wishes Mel
  13. Hello, I will bump my thread from a couple of weeks ago for you - this happened to me but with the kind help from people on here my next one came in at 8.5!
  14. Have signed - we have 12 cats and although we are hoping to rehome some are still looking at a substantial bill from this. X
  15. Hello, I am also ACA, big 4 background & 10 years experience. I have just submitted my EOI so can help with the assessment bit. i got my skills assessed through the chartered accountants of australia - their website sets out all the paperwork you need to send them. I also got my experience assessed through them but this is not mandatory. I ended up sending them - letter of good standing from the icaew, letter from icaew stating my exam results & when I joined the institute, ielts certificate (academic) levels 7 or above, degree certificate, degree transcript, pay statements for all the years' experience I wanted assessed, letters confirming my roles from present & past employers. All documents were certified copies apart from the letter of good standing which had to be the original. All sent to CPA then in under 4 weeks I got my positive skills assessment & work experience assessment. as for salaries am not sure - don't think they are that great tbh. Think I saw an average salary thingie recently which seemed to imply accounts average salary was $60 to $80k which is a lot less than uk salaries! Also the cost of living is higher in oz. we are not going for the money though we just fancy an adventure! Check out seek oz for role ideas - you can change the salary parameters to see how many high salaried roles there at in melbourne. We are hoping to head off to melbourne too so hopefully someone else will answer with what the market is like currently. All the best mel Ps accountant general is currently on the Sol but is flagged for review.
  16. Hello everyone, I just thought I would thank everyone for their help with this. It really made a difference. I watched all the YouTube stuff mentioned and read through the various tips from everyone. It really helped to hear how others got there on the end. so I got my results this week from my third attempt and my writing score jumped from 7.5 to 8.5 with your help. So thank you all so much for taking the time to help me. I submitted my EOI today - yippee! Best wishes Melissa
  17. Hello, thank you everyone for your kind help. Have started watching the YouTube lessons and reading through the writing guide sent to me - am feeling more hopeful about getting an 8. Have sent my previous two exams for remark and will just keep resitting till I get there as my skills assessment is back to this is the only thing stopping us putting in our EOI. Thanks again mel
  18. Thank you that's very kind. I will do. Btw it's the general test I am doing as have already done the academic for my skills assessment but got 7 for writing in that, but luckily only needed 7's.
  19. Argh! Please ignore the missing words and double 'am'! I am typing on my phone hence bad typing - honestly my writing is not this bad in the test! Lol.
  20. Hello, I am doing my third attempt at the ielts exams this Saturday and was hoping people could share some tips on how to get a level 8. I get level 9's no problem on the other exams but can't seem to get above 7.5 in the writing. I am am an accountant so am wondering if I am writing too simply? Should I use more complex words than usual? I have a language degree so honestly though my writing was fine, but that seems to be wrong! Any words of wisdom please. Thank you
