Australia Quarantine fees

Happy Easter Weekend to you all.

We need some help. DAFF are considering increasing their fees for a 10 day stay to around $1800 AUD which is a fortune. We would love you to sign the petition we have started and share it with people who are going to or have gone to Australia with their pets.

Thanks for your help and I hope we can ask DAFF to reconsider this policy.

Signed the petition and will get the wife to do the same. Is there a news article on this or is it insider knowledge Bob? If theres an article it may be worth circulating that too to gain more interest.

The reduction in quarantine days had just about made it affordable for us to take our cat with us next year but if this comes in......it doesnt bear thinking about

Found the article:

Their reasoning does not make sense - how can a cat cost the same as a dog? The cost to feed a cat must be 1/4 that of a dog & they can fit many more cats into their building thus generating more income which balances out the lower fees. Furthermore the drop in length of stay from 30 days to 10 days surely means with the same capacity they can increase the number of pets they take in roughly threefold? Therefore surely a moderate increase in the entry/exam fees etc would make more sense?

It is incredible that they have not (a) not reviewed their fees for 5 years & (b) want to correct this by one large rate change!

Hi and FYI and update really.

The hope was that people could book and pay for quarantine on their current prices - however we have tried this and DAFF are not issuing invoices until after the cost consultation has finished, so we cant do this.

Petition is up to 233 signatures, but the more we can get the better

It's nothing to do with the size of the animal,my two mini foxies are smaller than the average cat. It's all about deterring people from bringing their pets into Australia The authorities just don't want them to be brought into Australia.

It's done now and the fees are increasing. Means our budget for our cats is too high and we've had to make the difficult decision to leave them behind (with family, so I can still Skype them). Will add that Petair were fantastic as we'd got a fair way along arranging them dealing with the cats' move and then cancelled right at the end.

Thanks a million. This is a super hard thing for us to get involved with too as it ruins so many peoples plans.

Thanks for being so understanding and i hope when the Aussies see numbers of pets drop and their blessed "financial gap" gets bigger they may come to their senses!

Hi,

We've just paid our $3500 to secure quarantine places for our two small dogs in Sydney, in January. Similar price for a 10 night stay in a five star hotel there.. All in all our transportation, quarantine and vets costs for the two will be in the region of £7500 or approx $13500 AUD.

It is terrible what they have done. Did you sign the petition below. There use to be a loop hole to get in to the UK without the quarantine it's years ago now and I bet they have closed it, otherwise if it worked the opposite way it would have been great
