    Three snakes in three days

So, we are nearing 4 yrs now in OZ. In that time we have seen lots of wonderful wildlife. However, we haven’t see too many snakes. Until this week!!!! Monday we saw one slithering across the road outside our house, that was a thin brown one. Wednesday, this fella was hit by a car outside our neighbours house. He managed to get to the grassy verge but was unable to survive unfortunately. Last night, I went outside to get some washing in, it was dark but we have good lights installed. just as my flip flopped foot met the door step I noticed something moving in the corner of the door jam, it was him I will admit to some nifty tap dancing and a giant leap into the laundry accompanied by a strangled squeal. He wasn’t aggressive at all and once I calmed down he was rather handsome lol. Fortunately both cats were inside so we locked the cat flap for the night and Mr Snake was nowhere to be seen this morning.

    The adventures of Ted

Meet Ted, he is a very young bear as I only knitted him a couple of weeks ago. Ted may be young but he is adventurous. This is his first journey. Leicester to Germany by road, using the channel tunnel. Arrived in Dusseldorf. Next week another great adventure!!!!

    Three snakes in three days

I agree PQ, we also live on acreage and rarely see snakes (except for Brian of course). In 3 years we’ve been in this house we have seen 3 pythons, a baby brown and a harmless keel back. Our electrician retrieved a couple of diamond python skins from our roof space, but, there is no knowing how long they had been there. I would think there are many more snakes around than what we see Before we lived here I had never seen a wild snake, its funny how quickly you adapt to your surroundings. I keep my eyes open but I don’t live in fear. Spiders don’t worry me anymore, as long as they don’t want to share my sun lounge lol

Thank you @Conyo2588, when we arrived in Australia almost 5 years ago, we had no idea where we would end up. As it happens, we have moved 3 times (including moving states) We are happy now here in Queensland, even with all the covid uncertainty, life is good. This is where we will stay, in fact, if we didn’t have family back in the UK I wouldn’t care if we never went back again. I wish you luck in your visa journey and I hope you find your happy place in this amazing country. Anything is possible if you work hard and keep your eye on the ball.

It’s taken all our time (and money lol) for the past 6 months. It was very hard work and quite scary at times, especially when the roof went on. But, summer is before us now and we can sit back and enjoy it.

I will take some daylight shots tomorrow. We have some new plans For the surrounds. All along the right hand side of the deck there will be a pond with lillies and goldfish. It will have some kind of water feature and will be lit up at night. here is a pond that we built a few months ago so similar to this only longer.

Thanks @Wa7 Hervey Bay is a very beautiful area, stunning beaches sheltered by the lovely Fraser Island so very safe for swimming or fishing. Also it is a growing town so lots of building work taking place so possible work for a tradie. if you are used to a big city then you may be a bit surprised at how laid back it is in HB. If you are wanting to eat out for instance, then make sure you get out early as most places are closed by 9pm. We absolutely loved living in the Bay but work brought us to Bundy and I have to say as beautiful as Hervey Bay is, Bundy is the best place for us. You can easily purchase a place on anchorage and still be very close to town. We are about 30mins from the beaches of Bargara and 5 minutes from the river which is great for boating and ten minutes to the shops. Possibly more work available in Bundaberg. Just enough shops to buy most things you need. Not much in the way of public transport though so you need to drive everywhere. Having said that, all parking is free. Roads are wide and traffic is light so driving is not a chore. We have the best weather. Every day is sunny and warm, even in the winter, though it can get a bit cool at night time in the winter months Only other thing to think about is medical treatment. Some specialist services are only available privately or you may have to travel to Brisbane, however both places have fairly large hospitals, both private and public so most things are catered for locally. To sum up, if you can find work here it’s a great place to live, finding a job is key.

Oh Bob, that sounds like a nightmare. Yes we are in Bundy, we used to live in Hervey Bay for a couple of years and you are absolutely right, paradise on earth. Our pool builders came highly recommended and they have more than lived up to their reputation. We love our pool and have found it very easy to look after. we have been working hard on the gazebo for the past few weeks and it’s coming on nicely. It’s just been the two of us doing it and at times we would have been glad if some help but we ploughed on and are now over the worst. This is the recent progress
