Hi there. I'm a nurse too and we are applying for an independant visa - the 189. Its probably easier if you are the main applicant but you and your partner probably need to decide who will be the primary applicant. As a nurse you have to do the academic IELTS, then get skills assessed by ANMAC before you can apply for a visa (if its a permanant one you want). We have used an agent, takes the stress out of it but more costly. You can get a free inital consult usually but make sure they are registered. Good luck :)

Hi

thanks for your reply,,, I'm not really sure which visa to apply for as yet or if to go through me or my husband I suppose it's which ever is the easiest I definitely think we need to get an agent as it seems there is loads to do and could get quite confusing, I was under the impression if you were registered at level 7 you didn't have to take the IELTS but I don't know for sure..

Thanks again il il be off searching for an agent I think ha :daydreaming::wink:

All nurses going for PR visa have to complete ielts for ANMAC assessment. Unless they already have a positive AHPRA assessment, then they can go for a modified Anmac assessment. I haven't used an agent, and have found it quite straightforward, although it has been stressful, so if you can afford it, I think it's a weight off your mind to use an agent!

Good luck.

Hi, can anyone help on my query about Ahpra? We already have PR, house ready to sell and sorting removals!! But my registration still hasn't come through, I applied in October 2013 but they said as it wasn't processed in time it was transferred over to the new criteria which is a nightmare! I have been given 3 extensions now and they have asked for info on pharmacology of what I covered in my nurse training however it was 14 years ago and my uni have said we probably didn't even cover half of what they are asking for! I'm am soooooooooo stressed as due to move out to Perth in September. Has anyone come up against this?

Thanks Hayley xx

Question about the medical stage. There is a high change my partner and/or I may fail our medical or have exclusions put in. Where in the process does the medical come in? Do I have to pay the thousands for the visa application stage then go for the medical? It's. Lot of money to loose if we fail! Thanks, I'm just waiting to hear about skills ax.

Its advised to do the medical after you pay for the visa as your medicals only last 12 months however you could do your meds first but bear it in mind. Maybe you should run it by an agent who specialises in health matters first.

Hey there sawebb, just wanted to say hi to a fellow oncology nurse. Good to hear you got through everything. I'm currently in the process atm as I am just sending off AnMAc. I work in oncology too and hoping to head to queensland too.

As for ahpra, it's a whole host of problems with them atm, if you are diploma trained. Check out the thread, what's happening with ahpra thread. They have just gone through a new review for international trained nurses, and for the last 6 mths they havent put through any diploma trained nurses.

They are saying currently that they aren't equivalent to Aussie degrees. So it's all very much in the air...

hope this helps, have a read through.

Hi Sarah,

as far as I'm aware, AHPRA haven't registered ANY UK nurses, degree or diploma, in the last 8 months! Would love to hear about it if they have, as that would cast a little more light on the process!

Best wishes.

Yes, they have, though things have really slowed down since March. this is due to the backlog being caused by new regulations and requests for more info. On top of that May is their renewals month. My understanding is that a degree qualified UK RN should get their LOE within 12-16 weeks. Things may change though - this is AHPRA we are talking about after all.

Hi Hayley

just read your message and I feel like you have written it all about me. We too have our PR and our selling our house due to complete in 4 weeks. We just got back from Perth on a two week holiday. We loved it and can't wait to go back and was due to go in Oct with our two little girls but since reading your message I am thinking jan 2015 now. I sent my reg off in March but they only notified as receiving my verification in mid May as NMC had to send it 3 times till it got received. Having read what has happened to you that it is gonna be here in time. What area of Perth are you moving to? We really liked Joondalup. I am living in Bournemouth.

Hi, I, how funny! We like that area too, I have sent my cv to Joondaloop health campus and had really good feedback, so fingers crossed, I work in the ED but they have no vacancies but she said hopefully they will by September. I've got 2 boys aged 8 and 5 so looking at schools at the minute, we have friends in duncraig but it's quite expensive around there, been looking at Kinross, padbury and greenwood but I'm not sure what the areas are like. We went out last year to activate the visa and loved it, it's totally my dream and I'm just glad my hubbie liked it! so I just hope everything works out for us, I just can't believe the registration has taken so long, they have given me until the 7th July to submit more information about criteria 8 but not sure if the uni can provide it I'm just waiting on them being in touch. Where did you stay?

You can do your medicals before your visa but the results are sent to the visa people and you can only find out the result by paying for your visa!!! So either way you have to pay up, rather unfair!!!

Hi

We stayed in Innaloo with a friend but went up to Joondalup couple times and viewed a few houses on open days just to get ideas. I went for informal interview with the clinical manager but no positions at present due to a job freeze at present however once the Fiona Stanley in Murdoch has opened they think it's gonna make it a bit easier. I work in ICU and our two girls are 4 and 1. My friends who have applied for reg for Sydney they got some written docs from education dept at the hospital to support criteria 8. They sent them and had it approved April but our still awaiting their registration. I have not been requested to submit mine yet but I am worried as I did qualify in 2004 so not sure what I am gonna put together. I bet you just want yours now so you can relax and just look forward to going. If I go in jan and have still not got it I am gonna apply for health care assistant temp work till I get it. We have to go by jan as we did not take our kids on hol wiv us and so there visas have not been activated. Two other nice suburbs we saw are Carrinyup I think I spelt that right and tapping. My friend has a friend that lives there and apparently there are some good schools in tapping. We will have to keep in touch.

Hi all,

Ijust reading through the threads, I am a uk degree nurse and I originally submitted my application to AHPRA in September last year but it was withdrawn because apparently they never received my uni transcript! I lost my assessment fees a had to re-submit and pay the fees again! I re-submitted at the beginning of Feb and I am still waiting to hear about the outcome of my assessment! It would seem it is not just diploma nurses that have been left hanging.

Hi there,

I am a UK Diploma trained nurse ( a 3 year university course ) and I was assessed by ANMAC as having equivalent to a degree. But, I am still waiting for a decision from AHPRA since February this year.

Has anyone, who has a nursing Diploma, recently succesfully registered with AHPRA please? As I am starting to get very worried.

Thanks

What exactly is the bridging program? Do you know please? I read somewhere on one of the forum threads that it costs 10,000 Australian Dollars. What do you get for that money - do you happen to know? I mean - is it like a placement in a hospital? Or like a university course? and does it lead to a job, etc? If it is just the price of the course alone - then that blows me out of the water - as it would be too exspensive for me.

At this point I would just like a decision - so I can move on in my life.

If AHPRA refuse / offer the bridging program: is New Zealand also 'Degree only' ?

thanks

No idea about New Zealand but think it degree as well. Bridging course I think is 10 week course 4 week study 6-8 week placement. Ahpra web site has links to accredited courses under international FAQ section. Haven't really looked into them but think average cost $10,000.
