going home in 2 & 1/2 weeks!! Right now Id say.....

Miss:

1> Beaches (to be honest if you took them away England would win hands down)

2> Cleanliness (less graffiti/well kept parks etc)

3> A guaranteed summer (God it was a fab summer weather wise)

Wont Miss (was hard to narrow this down to three):

1> Rubbish Indian/Chinese/Fish&Chip Takeaways (as soon as I'm home I'm going to have a different takeaway every night for a week!)

2> Uncourteous Drivers (no-one lets you out and Its all a race and an ego fest)

3> The Australian Made/Australian Grown rammed down my throat (I don't care...if there's cheaper I want it!!)

When we go home next year I will miss:

1. The scenery

2. Some snack foods like Tim Tams and Cheezels

3. Friends, although they are mostly Brits and I will catch up on their trips 'home'

I won't miss:

1. The lack of choice in the shops

2. Australian culture

3. Christmas in summer.

I'd include the sunshine in this too

The Australian Made/Australian Grown rammed down my throat (I don't care...if there's cheaper I want it!!)

Same here.....I dont really care...should I be in admiration that they can make butter or grow veggies here?

Christmas in summer.

Yep, just wrong, xmas isnt just about the one day, its about xmas time, the run up, rolling in to new year etc. Good xmas TV too back home.

Over the top, chest thumping nationalism

Agreed. Its good to be proud of your country...but come on. Pride somewhere between Aus and the UK would be about right.

- Feeling homesick

I hear ya.......

The feeling that I just don't belong here

With you on this one, just want to feel like i have a purpose for being in that certain place.

Don't get the second one but traffic lights, I really believe congestion could be greatly reduced if they speeded up the change cycle.

Some Tesco's sell Tim Tams, probably the larger stores but I've definitely seen them.

Just googled it and sure enough.

I'd miss:

Chicken Salt

Lamingtons

Price of train travel ($8.60 from the Southern Highlands to Sydney) which is about 170km! And less than a fiver!

Reversible train seats!

More Sunshine!

Bird life and I am talking the feathered kind!

Choc tops.

I definitely would not miss:

The xenophobia

Parochialism

Attitude that it is the BEST country on earth!

AFL/NFL which they call FOOTBALL but the ball ain't round?!!!!

I still miss a lot of things about the UK such as friends family, TV, British Café and long summer evenings but there are pros and cons to wherever you are! Utopia doesn't exist unfortunately.

Actually, slightly slowing the cycle helps. You only have a quick cycle if the traffic is light. Every time the lights change, there is a lag. All lights are red for a second or two as a safety margin, and then everybody needs to get moving.

We Aussies are wonderfully shite at many things, but for some reason we do traffic lights well - the Sydney technology (SCATS) is in heaps of countries overseas.

Yes, I am a riot at parties. I'm a trainspotter too. Come and get me, ladies. :)

OK if you insist, but here's one. This is just an example of MANY. For those who know it Gympie Road Aspley QLD where Maundrel Terrace filters off to the right. The filter is about 200 metres long, at the end of the filter is, you've guessed it, a set off traffic lights which hang on red for so long that in the peak hours cars not only fill up the whole filter but then back up onto the outside lane of Gympie Road often to about 200-300 metres. This dangerous in itself, but then couple that with the local breed of the human species who drive too fast for any given road condition and often don't bother to look where they're going, you've got a recipe for disaster. I've lost count how many times I've seen the last car in the queue shunted up ar2e. It's so bad that if I see vehicles sitting there I drive past and take another route. Maybe the local panel beater has got the transport department in his pocket.

You sure you were in Australia?

Lol, my bad. Combination of being in a hurry, typing on a phone and I admit, not having an A grade in English.

I assume you were only talking about my grammar/phrasing and not the semantics of what I said?

Wow.

I think there is corruption anywhere. I believe the nepotism that drives a constitutional monarchy would be a good example? (But we love our Royal Family don't we.)

What I don't miss about the UK is the ugly grey. The smoggy cities. The rotten health of most people. The mould. The cramped-ness.

The wonderful "beaches''. The sameness of every High Street (give me a break!). The dingey bars and "made-up" gastro-pubs selling the same shite food but with a bit of garnish. The desperation of having to live through winter 10months a year and being inside with your central heating and the TV for it's duration. The over-commercialisation of Christmas.

I do miss the spring bloom. I miss the warmth of the people (you know, under the sometimes cold veneer), I miss the connection to the past (though that past is well and truly over), I miss the different regional accents and good banter you get at the pubs. I admire the Brits for their tenacity (they make do with a lot less).

I found many to be surprisingly un-worldly considering where they live, and I too often had encounters with folk who were just a little too ignorant about the British contribution to Australia's history.. You know - like forgetting that the two countries were completely intertwined for 2 centuries! (Don't mention the imperial wars Australians fought on your behalf.)

Nevermind. It is we who are racist. ;)

Part of my exercise of listing pros and cons, deciding should I stay or should I go...... I came up with things I would miss and not miss leaving Australia, but took weather out as its a no contest. Naturally, these are my experiences but I thot it would be fun to share 3 of them and maybe you'd like to add yours.

Three things I'd miss about Australia if I went back to the UK

1. Hanging out my washing and knowing it would dry on the same day.

2. AFL - yes I got hooked on it, its somewhere you CAN take your kids, unlike most fitba games.

3. Westfield shopping centres

Three things I WONT miss about Australia apart from the weather

1. Flies, mossies, spiders........infact ALL the creepy crawlies

2. Four and twenty pies

3. Unfriendliness of the natives (in cars, in shops, etc)

Full afl coverage .....live games on espn ot bt sport....watched loads of games last year....plus an hr round up every week.....here in the uk
