My findings back in the UK

Never said that Australia is same as London, read it again that is not what I wrote. If you read it I said the difference between England and Australia is same as comparing black country to London. Where on earth have I said Australia is like a buzzing London.

I questioned how you can say the difference between London and the Black Country is like the difference between England and Australia...try and keep up mate.

 

 

 

I visited London on Tuesday enjoyed it. Went to the sights fed nuts to the many squirrels in st James park. Completely different world to the black country region. Almost as big as the difference between England and Australia. There are good places to live in England it's just affording it.

If it was England of the late 90s then yeah it was good in the uk. Only went to Australia because I was sick of redundancies 1% pay rises and getting undercut by eastern Europeans taking our old jobs under different job titles at lower pay. Exploitation of cheap workers. Things have gone well in oz so far. Only by a lot of luck over there and support from some other expats I made friends with by chance. Only miss family really when I am in oz and the football. England I can take it or leave it there's a few things I miss but I have discovered things I enjoy about oz too. Met some great people there mostly expats of some 20 30 years. Not sure if I will be in oz forever. But it does look like I will make my Money in oz and come back to uk in later years unless things change. We have citizenship in oz so got security there. Thing is I know a few ping pong poms and one couple that ping ponged 3 times. There stories scare me. Wait and see approach I think. In uk at moment for 2 more weeks. Some good things some sad. Having to spend time visiting my dad in hospital so not really a holiday for me that's why I came over for a visit. I like aspects of both oz and England thou it's a pity they are so far apart.

Good post, I liked Australia but for me their is so much more to do in the UKUK, I was honestly as a young bloke going mental in Perth as I found it in all honest really boring but that's me and we are all different, the UK is going through a blip yes but it has gone through many before and come out the other side, the Brits are a special people IMO with a great sense of humour and fun and I think this is what I missed the most, might try oz or even Canada next if I do not get into the fire service but wherever I go my heart will remain in the green green grass of home.

Your right there, mostly because I have worked at firms struggling and shutting down so the government was always a target during chatter. In oz they do knock certain politicians but not as bad as I heard in England. I am in England at moment it does not seem to be as bad now. More of an acceptance of where Britain is and acceptance of hardtimes. Attitudes seem to of changed certainly in the black country. Things have been tough in the black country so long now it's the norm.

Sorry don't wish to sound sarcastic but where did you read that I moved oz for the weather?

 

We had a very comfortable live in the uk, we moved to oz for an experience....not to say its better.....but to give living in a different place a go!! We were at a place in our life where we wanted a change......and to be honest you think I would spend all the time and money moving to oz just for the weather....you'd have to be an idiot to do that!!

 

Erm you were the one that first mentioned the climate and weather.......you said "As for the climate, I'd wait until you've had 4/5 years of rubbish summers before commenting on that!"

I have had a drink in Dudley and the Black Country, and the pubs are are like the people ...honest and down to earth, love the people and the area industrial Britain at its best.

But people don't take everything into consideration when they move, they think there is an abundance of jobs and moving with $20k in the bank will last them for months......and because the sun is shining everything will be ok (I actually did read this in another post somewhere else). People seem blinkered and weather is a big factor to them, for me I couldn't give a toss about the weather, my family and happiness are more important which is why we are moving back to UK.....and when you tell people in the UK they can't understand why you would leave all this sunshine behind. You are right the two sides will never agree.

 

As for Oz, well it has been good to me its just not for me.

I think this sounds exactly the way it was meant to sound and not the way some people have taken it at all. He was comparing two areas of England and highlighting the fact that, although in the same country, these two places are very different and offer different life styles. He then compared the diff between these two places to the difference between England and Australia, which lets face it are very different. Can't understand how anyone could have taken it differently.

Lucky to find a pub open? Are you kidding, the reason some are closing is e cause there was to any to begin with, the culture these days I'd to socialise at home whereas years ago it was the pub, Stratford where I live pubs on every street lads of them and all doing a roaring trade as far as I can see.
