  1. I traveled from the UK to Australia at 15 on my own about 10 years ago. I didn't need anything like that. They only asked if I was meeting someone on the other side of the doors and if nobody was there to collect me to speak to the staff.
  2. Thanks for the post. For point 4, that only seems to apply to London. The most of the rest of the country is a mess transport wise. The local Bus firm has got some "new" busses. They are ex London and 14 year old. The service isn't frequent and is expensive. The public transport in the north of England isn't a batch on Brisbane's services.
  3. No problem, glad I can give something back to forum. This link might also be helpful - http://www.ausbt.com.au/a-beginner-s-guide-to-transiting-singapore-s-changi-airport At Brisbane there are loads of baggage trolleys near the baggage belts. They are really light and easy to push as well. Just grab one, it will make your life easier. Best of luck!
  4. Thanks very much @GeoSurfer if you are in another cabin give me a shout. I haven't flow Premium Economy but can help with First and Business class.
  5. You will need 60 points. To make up the points I suggest you take the IELTS again or maybe the PTE exam. If you get a superior grade, you will get 20 points giving you a total of 65 points.
  6. Can you post how you are gaining these points please?
  7. Next test booked in 13th July. So far away! I am pretty annoyed with them now. I was ok before but now im not. They are refusing to give me a small refund to cover the costs of fuel and parking, Im only wanting to cover costs. They said "as a gesture of good will we are re-booking your exam for free". Of course they shouldn't be charging to rebook it! Am I supposed to be thankful?? Email to them is on route....
  8. I have flown this route loads. There will be someone at Manchester at the chekin desks who can sort your bags out. If you checkin online you will get boarding passes you print yourself for both legs. If you checkin at the airport they will print some for you. Your bags will be checked in all the way to Brisbane. If your Visas are assigned to the passport you use to checkin with you shouldn't need any documentation. But take it anyway! You have to get off in Munich whilst they refuel the aircraft. I assume it's health and safety. You do not have to go through security again. You get off and walk up the jet way into the gate area and wait there. When they are ready you just get called back on. There are some bathrooms near by. On the way back you stay on the aircraft as they do not refuel (if you are infact flying back!). I wouldn't worry about getting of the aircraft, you will be fine If you are migrating you can get an extra 10KG of baggage for free, they might ask to see a copy of your visa. But you will need to contact them in advance. Assuming you are flying economy, you will get 30KG to spread across as many cases as you like. If you go for the extra 10KG you will get 40KG. On the first flight, again assuming you are flying economy, you will get seats with 9 across (3-3-3). The seats are the latest and you will also get the newest touch screen in flight entertainment. You will get a power socket and a USB port. The power socket on the 777-300ER will accept Australian and American plugs, you might need an adapter for british devices. I am not sure if the new seats accept British sockets I can't remember. You will also have WIFI on this flight. On the second flight to Brisbane you are on a Airbus A330-300. These have slightly older seats and inflight entertainment. Although the inflight entertainment is older its still really good! The good thing about the A330 is it will accept British plugs in the power outlets. You also get a USB port. You will get 8 seats across in a 2-4-2 configuration, unless you are sat at the back. There is no WIFI on this aircraft. I have put some pictures of your seats below. When you connect in Changi its really easy. The best airport I have ever made connections at and I have done loads of those! If you need help ask a member of staff, they are very helpful. If you scan your Brisbane boarding pass on the machines dotted around the airport it will tell you what gate you are at and will shop a map guiding you there. Keep scanning as you go along to check you are heading the right way. If you want to keep it simple you can walk and not use the busses or sky train. I have also posted a map below. I am living near Manchester and I am moving to Brisbane myself. If you want to meet up and ask any questions drop me a PM. Thanks The 777-300ER seat - First Flight The A330-300 Seat - Second Flight Changi Airport Map
  9. Or some time to forget what I have learnt ha ha
  10. Argh! I went to have a second shot at my PTE. Last time I got 90 90 85 75. Needed to get 79 in each area. Went for you exam today. Half way through the speaking part the sound stopped working. Restarted the test twice, no joy. Moved to another computer, still nothing. I was sent home and will need to resit it another day. How annoying!
  11. What? Record time surely? What occupation are you migrating under?
  12. What do you do for a living?
  13. Have a look at the attached score guide regarding the writing. I feel for you. I failed my PTE I got 90 90 85 and 75 Writing marks.pdf Writing marks.pdf
  14. Hello, Today I got my ACS skills assessment back and its all good news, rather cuffed! :jiggy: I just need to crack the PTE exam. I didn't get the required marks last time. I needed 79 marks in each area and I got: 90,90,85,75!!! My spelling let me down. Thanks to all those that post on here. Your information is great! Thanks
  15. You will be ok. You have both been issued separate visa's, they are not a joint visa. You have entered Australia and activated yours. If she doesn't activate hers you won't loose yours.
  16. Hi, I work in a UK school so hopefully can be of assistance. In recent years, GCSE's have been done in year 9, 10 & 11. However they have changed this back to how it was years ago and they only now do them in Year 10 & 11. So you couldn't have picked a best time. Also in the UK there is no national assessment at the end of year 9 anymore, nothing replaced the SATS when they where scrapped for year 9's. So school now do any assessments locally, they might ask your son to sit a few exams. You really have nothing to worry about.

    Passports.

The UK doesn't have exit immigration checks. They wouldn't have known if you was in the country or not.
  18. Something that could be on that list is arranging a tax refund from HMRC as you are leaving the UK on a permanent basis.
  19. @danrst171 - The organisation that asses your skills, the Australian computer society does recognize an MCSE, so Microsoft certs are an option. I do think you need 6 years experience to go with that though. If you can sponsorship from your employer im not sure what the requirements are.
  20. You will need some kind of vendor certification. Being in that industry a CCNP would be probably best. A CCNA wouldn't be sufficient.
  21. According to this document, that is not true. The work expereince doesn't have to be after your certification. See page 4 - https://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/7319/Skills-Assessment-Guidelines-for-Applicants.pdf "If your Diploma or Vendor Certification is assessed as having an ICT major which is closelyrelated to your nominated occupation, you will require 5 years relevant work experiencecompleted within the past 10 years or 6 years relevant work experience completed anytime inyour past work history (whichever provides the earliest skill date) to meet the suitability criteria." Wilson, They will not accept those Microsoft Certifications you have, they are not recognized. You will need an MCSE or if you went down the Cisco route a CCNP is also acceptable. See page 10 of the link above. Did you have another job prior to November 2012?
  22. Have you seen the score guide? It might be helpful - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxSAhiEs5XzvTjJ4Tm11Tl9CNnc/view?usp=sharing Many other resources in here as well - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BxSAhiEs5XzvX3lNSnRxc3NWcU0&usp=sharing
  23. Does this depend on the actual job you are being assessed on? I have no degree at all but I do have a CCNP and no years deducted.
