Hi. I cant help you much on suburbs as we are in a similar situation, in that we are moving to Brisbane in September and don't really know the suburbs! We have looked at schools we like for our son (16) and working outwards from there - Cleveland is actually one of the suburbs near one of the schools we like. Birkdale, Wellington point, Manly and Wynnum have all come up trumps when I've been asking on here for suburbs. Good luck with your move!

Hi I am after some advice for when we first get to Oz! I feel the need to make a list of what we need to sort out in the first couple of weeks (not including finding a rental/work/schools!). We're going to Brisbane if that makes any difference to anything! What did you do/wish you had done when you first arrived? I'm talking Medicare/driving licences/bank accounts etc - the practical things! Thanks in advance for any help. Even though it may seem obvious, please mention it - I think a list will help me sleep better at night - still 4 months to go and I'm stressing! :wacko:

We sold ours middle of April, so are currently going through all the paperwork with solicitors. It was on for just over two weeks before we accepted an offer. We are wanting to fly out on 1st september. We are lucky because our buyer is happy to exchange fast and then let us stay in the house until the middle of August.

It may be worth looking at what Form 80 asks and getting some of the info together. Fingers crossed you wont be asked (we weren't) but I had all our travel dates etc prepared ready in case we were!!

Hi Does anyone have any info on Edens Landing, Waterford and surrounding areas south Brisbane?? Anywhere to avoid? Anywhere particularly nice? We really like the look of Canterbury College for our son (obviously this may change when we get out there and see the school in person!) but a heads up on decent suburbs would be great!

A number of school we have contacted about our son joining Year 11 in January have said to contact them when we arrive in September and, if we like them (and they like him!) he could sit the final term in Year 10 so he can met his peers for a term before starting in January. I've found that all the schools we have contacted so far have been really nice and offered good advice. We are looking at private education though, not sure whether it is the same for non-private.

Would it not be the same as when you get contents insurance in the UK for your household insurance?

My son will have just got his GCSE results when we move over. The plan is that he will start Year 11 and do the final two years of school over there. We are aware that he will be one of the oldest in the year, but shouldn't be at any disadvantage.
