  1. Haha, I felt quite sad I didn't get a 'welcome!' or any sort of fanfare as others have mentioned. But nevermind
  2. People see to think that if the UK leaves the EU, there's suddenly going to be more say... The political situation won't change - there'll still be spin and lies. And when you say "we want our country back", what does that mean? Its your country now and it will always be. Unless you want the pre-EU UK back, which would be quite a shock to back-pedal 43 years. Think about your words, don't just regurgitate the tabloid headlines without a thought about what they mean.
  3. Agree @Kavanagh seems determined to keep the argument going!
  4. Yes I'd be happy to go live on that side too. Great spot for public transport and would be walkable to CBD also.
  5. I get mine from M&S and am happy with them. I picked up a few nice T-shirts in there when back in the UK recently, and thought they had a nice range for the summer season. I also order online, as it all comes from UK warehouse so no different to what's in the shops.
  6. I use Parcel Lockers. They're a great way of doing things and you get a SMS and email notification, when anything arrives for you. The postal service still remains unreliable but at least there are no excuses not to deliver if you are not at home, etc! Be aware they are only supposed to be for AP deliveries, and anything else (from private delivery companies) will still go to the post office and you'll have to pick up (I haven't experienced this but it's what I've seen on other forums + it's on the AP parcel locker website).
  7. If moving isn't a 'life or death' situation for you and you can't get the area you want, them I personally wouldn't bother. Seems simple to me but ultimately your toss of the coin / decision to make
  8. I live in Chatswood, so very close to Lane Cove. It's a nice area but my reservation would be the public transport links - depending where you're looking within Lane Cove of course. Maybe do a bit of Googling on walking times from Chatswood / Artarmon stations and see what bus routes go through the area. It might also be worth looking at Willoughby / Castlecrag / Cammeray areas, as they are close to Middle Harbour and also fairly green and open. But less apartments so rental costs will probably be higher.
  9. Wollongong. Lots of beaches, train to Sydney or drive in 90mins, close to the Southern Highlands which are lovely. Not cheap but more affordable than Sydney (where isn't?!). Large employers such as hospital and Uni + other mainly public sector.
  10. I think @Eera is also in Mackay.
  11. Silly question of the day: how did you communicate with HMRC to get the letter/statement? Was it online or you had to call?
  12. The second doggie looks like a Staffie to me.
  13. He is just lovely! Such a cutie.
  14. Your first question - no idea - when I applied, I was given my CO's email address on the acknowledgement / request for medicals etc letter. Second question - I think it was September 2014 and I'm trying to find a thread or post to back this up! EDIT: seems like it was 1 August 2014 when the processing time increased. Details for all visas here: http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/immi_processing_times.html
  15. Yep I had KP (but my visa is granted now). He (she?) was pretty responsive whenever I got in touch with my silly questions...
  16. once the visa is granted, you don't need to do anything else. You will be given a date which is the latest point you must enter Australia to validate the visa (it can just be a holiday, you don't have to stay) or you can fly the day after you get the visa approval letter.
  17. I'd be avoiding Egypt but not for Ebola reasons! See the FCO advice on travelling there: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt It's fine to travel when you're waiting for your visa to be processed, but exercising the usual caution is advised when choosing your destination
  18. mine was listed on the third page of the grant letter, under "grant details" - or you could log into VEVO and check there instead (or just ask your CO).
  19. Must be time for Mr MtT's visa lottery number to be drawn surely? Have you pestered them again lately?...
  20. also, partner visas aren't subject to capping/limits: https://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/capping-and-queuing.htm
  21. before mine was granted, I could still see it wasn't as systematic as we like to believe. and it doesn't mean that I didn't spend a good amount my 8 months 15 days waiting time, wondering/worrying if it would be granted or not
  22. My personal theory is that we are looking for pattern in how the visas are processed/granted - when there may be no pattern. ie, I was convinced I'd get mine granted, the day after another PIO member got theirs granted - because we applied a day apart. But this didn't happen! I also got my visa granted before someone else who had applied before me. Also, you'd think ours would be granted, five days after someone else (Person A), if we applied five days after Person A. But it doesn't seem to work like that either! I have no idea what the process is or how things get done, but I suspect it's not "machine like" as we imagine it should be... Plus every application is different. That's what I think anyway.
