  1. sounds like a scam. Keep away
  2. it depends on the landlords. If you go direct you may have a better chance, a lot of real estate agencies have a points system, you need X amount of points before you can apply. For example 20 points for past refs, 10 points for recent pay slips etc. You can get a place, but i suggest checking on gumtree and the like rather than agencies.
  3. hmm thanks TPQ, might have to sell my bag then, dont want to just lose it, its $100+
  4. Thanks do you know of any companies I can use for the shipping carton?
  5. I got a duffel bag with clothes I want to send back to the UK. Doesn't matter how long it takes to get their cheaper the better, whats my best choice, the AU post office?
  6. it may sound scary at first when your planning everything but you will be fine, millions of people are doing the same thing you are. You will be fine. Not sure what advice to give other than enjoy your self, and dont worry about it (kind of hard now i know)
  7. yeah I may leave next month, saved a bit of money, time to start enjoying myeslf even more than working on a farm
  8. as mentoned I have been working in the hay shed quite a bit these last few weeks, its very old and full of dust I just wait for the bags to full up with hay, take them off and pass them to someone else, each bag is appox 25kg. I need to stop the machine when it hits 25kg, its guess work but you get a nack for it. Not a good job for people who hate dust. Then today I got told by the boss to pick up 5 people than head to a farm to do some planting. I pick everyone up and get to the farm. Then he calls me boss "where you are" me " Im at the farm boss" Boss" yeah the wrong ***** farm" me" haha" Had to go lol, will hopefully get to the right farm tomorrow
  9. money crop here will move your money from UK account Oz with no fees or something, check this site it will tell you what you need to know. I just take a credit card instead of carrying cash.
  10. not used them but it makes sense to use every avenue you have open too you.
  11. yes you can leave and come back
  12. thanks mate, maybe this is in the wrong section? If I apply for a tourist visa on the last day of my WHV, do I get put on a bridging visa in the mean time?
  13. Hi after my WHV, I want to stay for another 2weeks as a holiday, a few friends will be dropping in. Then I will leave with them. After my WHV visa finishes, can I apply for any other type of visa to cover me for the 2 weeks without having to leave Oz? thanks
  14. Did some greenbean picking a couple days ago, was contracted at $1.10 per KG, my first time, think I made like $13.50 an hour, not great, but im sure after a day or so I could get it even higher to $16. Working directly for the farmer you would be getting more. Work was fairly easiy, just pick the beans off the plant, invloves bending over, but I was just on my knees, easier on the back.
  15. refer to harvest guide, buy a car, and hit the towns suggested is your best bet currently
  16. loads of people will be there that time, you wont have trouble meeting people
  17. gumtree is a great place to ask if you cant find anyone, in the community section
  18. yeah you can do it online, you could prob do it from home now, but you need to give the an Oz house address because they send you your TFN via that
  19. yes correct, apply online the same way you did before
  20. yes you can, just be sure to have all the paperwork before you go as proof. rent forms, payslips, 1263form, bank statements etc
  21. maybe check out some WWOOFING or other places were you can work without paying board. Last thing you want to do is run out of money in 1-2 months. Least you have your CC as a back up, now untill you leave id try and save up as much money as you can.
  22. been a bit busy on other stuff just a pic i took during a break time doing one of my farm jobs near Allora i think the place was called
  23. From what I hear myself in Oz and on these forums I have formed my own opinion on them. I dont think you can make great money at any of them compared to working for a contractor/farm. The business model of the hostel is to make you spend all the money you earned back into the hostel. Kind of like a never ending cycle. As for how the hostels are, many of them are well run and people have a lot of fun there. So the experience is going to be good, but unlocking your 88 days and making money, hmm maybe not so good, as I dont think you will be working 5-6 days a week, maybe 1-3. So what was a 3 month stay now becomes 5-6months
  24. no regional work that qualify for your visa in the Gold coast. Darwin mainly grows bananas ( I could be wrong), and just because there is work now. Regional work is seasonal, just because there is work now in Darwin, doesn't mean come August there will be work.
