Yes look a month or so before you go. I remember booking 1-2 weeks before, and alot of the good vlaue places were gone. Book 2 months in advance if you're using airbnb to get a really nice place.

Unless you smell, you wont have trouble finding friends, everyone is quite welcoming in Australia. If you do smell, then just take a shower -

I don't think anyone has ever been asked. But at the airport they may ask you if you get stopped. if you dont have whats needed, you can always get a credit card or two!

Heading to Australia on a WHV in July
tingtongman replied to Karine Beaulieu's topic in Visitor Visas
Yeah thats not much money, I'd go and get 2-3 credit cards too, just in case you fall low on funds. just wondering how much does VisitOz charge to get you a job? its not that hard to find it yourself -
Go to coles and they have these smaller companies that run of Optus/Telstra, they are about half the price. I forgot the names I think one is called Boost and ayasim maybe

Moving in October on a WHV - Advice please?
tingtongman replied to SamLocky's topic in Visitor Visas
October, head to Gatton (near Brisbane). Onion work every day until the end of December. -
Get it in the UK, a lot easier, wont take more then 20mintues to fill the form in. If you spend more than 3 months in any country in Asia before you apply, you may have to get checked at the hospital which can cost fees. You have 12 months from activation to enter.

Starting my WHV on 11 June - couple of questions!
tingtongman replied to Shelley Cross's topic in Visitor Visas
defo get a bit more money. Farm work is getting harder to get, esp good paying work, if you can't save any more, then just get 1-2 credit cards as a back up. Its never good to be away from home with no money. Don't mean to scare you and you'll prob be fine, but just get 1-2 cards as a back up -
anywhere near the CBD, just go on a hostel booking site and see where they are located, that would be central melb

2nd year visa/WHV/fruit picking/farm jobs??
tingtongman replied to lilmiss125's topic in Visitor Visas
Yeah its okay currently, you just have to find a contractor who you can build a good report with and you will get work often. one tip is to stay away from cherry tomato work, you will see a rather large lady come to the caravan park most morning asking people to pick cherry tomatoes. She charges $10 for a lift, and you wont make more than $8-12 ph, if your lucky -

2nd year visa/WHV/fruit picking/farm jobs??
tingtongman replied to lilmiss125's topic in Visitor Visas
If you head to the caravan park, you should be able to get evertyhing you need their, sometimes around 4-5am, vans come up wanting people for work. You can just jump in. I only have the number to my contractor at the moment and hes not looking for anyone at the moment. -
2nd year visa/WHV/fruit picking/farm jobs??
tingtongman replied to lilmiss125's topic in Visitor Visas
I got 2 jobs from the harvest trail. one of them lasted me 3 months. Never heard of "Mayla" but be careful of anyone who says you must stay in their accommodation if you want to work. Can be a scam sometimes, where you dont see your bond returned and the "work" never starts. -
2nd year visa/WHV/fruit picking/farm jobs??
tingtongman replied to lilmiss125's topic in Visitor Visas
Not for Gatton you dont. I stay in a share house, but they have a caravan park which is a bit of a dive but full of backpackers. Won't be finding finding a place to live, a job may be a little bit tougher. Key is to build a good rapport with whichever contractor you work for so they keep giving you work. -
2nd year visa/WHV/fruit picking/farm jobs??
tingtongman replied to lilmiss125's topic in Visitor Visas
You should try where I am in Gaton. I worked 6 days last week, 5 days the week before and all of this week. A lot of backpacker staying at the caravan park. Some jobs pay good $17-20/hr others are contracted, so can vary. The town is quite nice and only 2hours away from the GC. Work is all contracted and not fixed. Worth a shot coming here. -
was the 4th day in a row at waking up at 5am to pick up pumpkins

Check the Halifax credit card, its the best travel credit card to use from the UK. I really suggest it as an option of getting money in Aus
