  1. Our daughter was born in Australia and has now returned to live there. We applied for a RRV after 20 years. You need to provide compelling and compassionate reasons as to why you have not returned in the time you were away. Think of everything. Anyway after 20 years we received our RRV and are planning our return now. So if we can get it after 20 years well there must be hope but as said above more info would help. Best of luck
  2. TFN is for life it does not change and is not linked to your passport

    Dublin!

Anywhere on Stephens Green......The Cliff Townhouse, Stephens Green Hotel The Westin Dublin La Stampa Hotel Jurys Inn Christchurch.............a little further all depending on price range not sure on B&B in the area you might have to go further out to get a decent B&B avoid Temple Bar area late at night, can get messy :-)............unless you like that:wideeyed:..............not a Dubliner.............enjoy the Trip
  4. To the OP i think you're post was perfectly understandable and in no way did it seem like you were looking for someone else to pay for Private education for your children. Actually a bit flabbergasted at some of the responses here I had to read your original post a couple of times to see was i missing something.........Some people definitely have a problem reading simple English. Best of luck with your plans....
  5. Well done guys, great post..The rain will stop, the sun will shine and life will be good..................
  6. Currencyfair have also done good by me once you setup an account online with them to aid the transfer. Takes a little bit of setting up but once done you have it sorted for future use, very handy
  7. Hi Clara No need to go to expense of agents just ring the embassy in London and make the enquiry direct. We found them very helpful. We had not been back since we left Australia hence had not used any other Visa except our original PR one. But had applied for a holiday visa when we found our our original Visa might be still Valid. When we contacted the embassy they told us if we used/activated on entry the holiday Visa we had been granted we would automatically legally cancel the PR Visa and this would never be able to be used again legally, end of story.............so no doesn't sound very good. the only other options would be the Contributory Parent Visa at a huge cost. But to put your own mind at rest maybe you should give them a ring just to clarify that point......hope this helps Temporary Residence Migration Branch Australian High Commission The Strand | LONDON | WC2B 4LA Tel: +44 (0) 20 7887 5981 Fax: +44 (0) 20 7887 5775
  8. Sorry need to clarify last statement just re read your post. If they have been over on holiday visas this means their PR visa has been officially cancelled as their holiday visa has now taken precedent and cannot be reinstated. Nearly 99% sure on this. Sorry
  9. We were in Oz on a PR Visa for 4 years and left over 20 years ago still on the PR. We have recently applied for a RRV, on our own no agent needed. After 20+ years we have both been granted RRV's. They have a good case if their son is a citizen I think well worth a try
  10. If drawing it down in Oz you can draw it down tax free, not the case in Ireland you are taxed at your nominal rate on drawdown. That could be one good reason to move it....Im sure there are other reasons also Might be worth waiting a little longer depending on exchange rates. Might be in the same situation soon
  11. Best of luck on the trip also planning on heading to Sunny Cost in March 2014 so will be our turn soon enough. Hope all goes well for you
  12. All Visas are done electronically now you do not need to get a passport stamped. You can if you want but they will charge you for this. You will get a letter or email with a "Visa Grant Notice" you can carry this if you want. Congratulations
  13. Bubble.........What Bubble :biglaugh: I think i heard statements like this from a number of countries in the last few years..............Famous last words and all that................
  14. "We are just finding out now about the possible additional costs for importing our car, what a minefield!!!" Hi Mandy would be interested to know what these are........best of luck with your move
  15. Petition for Fibre to Home Broadband Every signature will help. Think of it as putting one over on Rupert Murdoch  he would just love to stop the Fibre to the Home
  16. Best of luck also heading to Brisbane / Sunshine Coast MArch 2014 so looking forward to hearing how you get on. Happy Flying............
  17. Use everything you can think of, in laws health may qualify id say. Maybe get a doctor letter to confirm the health issues and you were needed at hand etc to say you could not travel due to health of relatives etc and any other reason you can think of. Think of any "compelling and compassionate" reason................you might be surprised...........we were
  18. First Public Announcement of policy from New Prime Minister.......well done Australia
  19. So there goes having the chance of possibly one of the best broadband systems in the world.......so much for Australia being open for business.......oh sorry it is....... for Rupert Murdoch
  20. So it looks like Abbott is going to win.....Does Australia know what it means having Rupert Murdoch as your backroom buddy, i think i might be a little nervous as to the motives....... But i am sure big business is rubbing its hands in anticipation by the sounds of things..................Is this good for Australia? Only time will tell i suppose. As someone looking forward to getting there early in 2014 I hope it is.....
  21. Just in relation to Housing I thought all seemed to be too good to be true in the press and was wondering why it was hard to find news stories in the papers discussing the negatives around housing in Australia and pricing and negative gearing etc when you can find loads elsewhere. But then i discovered that some of the papers and real estate sites are owned by the same companies i think Fairfax and Domain so not surprising that all you see the papers doing is talking up the housing market all the time. Vested interests lie everywehere. Also no mention of the effects of Negative gearing and tax policies in the Election debates so far or have i missed it? Interesting times i think after the elections are over and the Politicians actually have to run the country and not just talk about it..................
  22. No here also.....but a maybe................We were advised if we used a Tourist Visa it would automatically cancel legally any other Visa granted............But they i think then clarified it with if you had started a process of getting a visa then this might be ok as it had not actually been granted yet......I would contact DIAC and get this confirmed in writing if i was you....to important to screw it up
  23. Your TFN is for life you might just need to get it reactivated you can actually check online i think on the Australian Taxation Website
  24. I know how you feel lucky you.............our mid life crisis is now that we are 50 :biggrin:and planning similar
  25. You can buy a new build at any time as a non PR. With PR you can buy anything
