  3. Bring it you will need it....................In Noosa and on colder nights you will reach for it .................once you get acclimatized :-)
  4. I think one of the University has a dive club, open to all, and may work out cheaper also. Google should find it. Very expensive to dive here
  5. Can you buy VAT/GST free in Canada if you are leaving
  6. Re Aus Banks " In a world of carefully crafted, cautious messages, Fitch ratings director Andrea Jaehne cut to the chase when asked why Australia's banking system was so safe and solid. "I wouldn't call it safe and solid," she responded." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-27/australian-banks-not-so-safe-and-solid-fitch/7451740 I think i would lodge only the Max Guaranteed in any Bank. Open a Couple of Accounts if needed Personally I think there are tough times ahead for Australian Banks. If a Royal Commission is called for make that even tougher. I also would wait a little longer for making large transfers. AUD may be going lower but who knows...............
  7. Your fathers illness will do also anything else, family reasons, job reasons, any family illness, kids schooling if you have any etc..........Your PR visa does not expire its the travel part so you should be able to apply for an RRV while here .............
  8. In Noosaville two years and quite happy............take a walk up the National Park on the right from Main Beach Noosa and watch the Surfers, head out to Boiing Pot look out and further if you like. Drive down the end of Hastings St and through the National Park to the Spit at the River mouth beautiful views......... never tire of it Little Cove is lovely also for a swim. Was going to stay here but did not have the chance seems to have great reviews and handy to the River in Noosaville and close to everything - - Montpellier Boutique Resort.........looks good fro kids.....Gastons near the roundabout in Noosa is nice plenty of choice really. Like Moneypennys also at the end of Hastings st. Coolum is worth a stop also to have a look around...............Buderim is also nice...............Maleny lovely, a bit more inland but worth a visit [h=1][/h]
  9. +1............If in doubt...........walk away.....always go with your gut...........there will always be another House
  10. Maybe someone can advise...........I have a friend who is thinking of coming over later in the year or maybe next year. Currently teaches in an International school in Europe, English Speaking. Teaches Maths at Secondary level. Qualified in Ireland not sure exactly what level he has. But has done some University studying etc not sure for how long exactly Can he get employment in an International School in Sydney without jumping through all the hoops needed for State Schools ie matching up qualifications etc he would not be adverse to doing more studying I imagine but initially would just need to get work. Or is it all the same whether it is International or State. ..........Many thanks for any tips
  11. Life is too short.......doesn't matter who is at fault...........someone has to say sorry or whatever.....whether its right or wrong as the elder statesman youre hubby should bite his tongue and do the deed for the good of all and sort it out before any move
  12. +1 on CF...............Use currencyfair all the time and have not found a better option yet for rate, convenience etc
  13. Left Aus in 1990 on PR Visa and came back in 2014 on RRV.....so yes it can be done. You need compelling and compassionate reasons as to why you were not back in Aus in those years
  14. +1 get your citizenship application in. Once its in I think you can travel but you need to check that
  15. Is it possible you may have any medical, work related, professional, personal reasons why you could not travel. Brothers will also help
  16. Use Currency Fair all the time. Would never use the Bank for transfers..............
  17. "There's more houses for sale in Noosa than what's occupied. Out of Control Kids roaming the Street causing Mayhem. Heaps living in rental accommodation on the dole." Been in Noosaville/Noosa now for nearly 18 months dont know what part of town this person is talking about. Lovely area people really friendly, have seen no "mayhem" or anything near it. There are the usual houses for sale as in any area and people live in rental accom everywhere dont know how you would know they are all on the dole. Young people seem really nice and lovely laid back atmosphere in general...................and the suns shining and the sea is warm. First time in a long time I have gone to a beach where everyone just leaves their belongings on the beach and goes for a swim with no worries it might be gone when you come back.........must head for a swim myself now
  18. Would not take a mortgage out in Aus at present. Prices of property is is too risky cant see it ending well for anyone.
  19. Buy them online from zenoptical. Just bought my first pair for a fraction of the cost as a test and must say they are great. Cannot see any difference from what is sold in the shops. I think someone is making a killing somewhere.
  20. +1 above use any temp accomm is fine just change afterwards. Also dont forget to update your address on your Aus driving licence when you get a new one. They send you out a little sticker to fix to your driving licence as this is used a lot for id in Aus
  21. if you know someone in the uk/ireland with sky they can have a number of users on their skygo as part of their sky package. Cost them nothing. You can then log on to their skygo from Aus and watch the match. All completely legal. They just need to set you up as a user on their skygo.................. Hope that was the last win Wales have against Ireland :-) Enjoy the matches. As mentioned there are a few other options also........
  22. as someone who 20+ years later came back on a RRV if you can stay and get Citizenship. This would have made it so much easier for us due to loads of reasons. But we were lucky enough to get a RRV after that length of time so took the opportunity. Now we have to go through the full 4 years this time to get citizenship and will not move until we accomplish that this time. But hey lifes an adventure........
  23. Just back from 3 days and used frasermagic4wdhire and rented a "battered" landrover that included all the camping gear necessary basic but did the job. They gave us a suggested route which more or less matched what we wanted to do, which we more or less did and took all their advice. Watch the tide times. Everything went well, never drove a 4wd before, or on the beach etc. Read up on hi box and low box etc and understand it. Be careful crossing the creeks can see how easy it is for accidents but no problems on our trip. Get them to really go through the gear box with you ours was a little tough to deal with but once we got the hang of it, it was fine. Cold at night at the moment so be prepared. If you are in fenced area bring wood for the firepits at night, wish we had :-). Camped both nights at Dundabarra? which was a good idea as we had thought of moving, but it made the second day more relaxing knowing where we were coming back to, showers are great ..... Take your time and dont try to do too much. Loved the champagne pool area and the boardwalk at Central Station is a must. Swam in the lake and Watched a beautiful Manta ray from the lookout boardwalk on the way to Champagne pools. Just 10m off the beach. Saw loads of whales also from there. Dropped tyre pressure from 30 to 26/27 to get up the track to Champagne pools as we got stuck initially and tried it a few times. Once we dropped the tyres we made it up. Bought our own tyre gauge and needed it... If you get stuck do not try to force it, just reverse out and try again no need to get completely bogged down and needing to dig yourself out even though they provided sand traks and shovel etc we never needed them. Saw one dingo out for a trot on the beach, king of his island he was............. Think if i had kids definitely a fenced area. Some nice beach camping sites but no facilities. Get the HEMA map for Fraser from BCF store. Would love to drive a newer 4wd to see the difference. Ours was bouncy but thats half the fun. Spoke to one asian man with his wife and young kid who had got stuck and as he said with a smile...."its an adventure" ............. Pumped the tyres back up at Cathedral station. Spoke to a few drivers for the tour companies all said not to go below 26 on tyres and back up to 30 for better driving. Just our experience anyway. Get to the fenced campsite early if using it be there by 3pm to give you time to setup etc and get a good spot, was busy even at this time. Would not go in summer after being there, maybe Sept/Oct for a bit more heat. Would not go in kids holidays either must get mad when its busy. Three days was just enough to get a taste would not be worth it any shorter. So glad we did not do one of the bus trips. If you like fishing seems to be the place, loads of serious looking fishermen on the beaches........... Most of all enjoy it and take the time to savour it all. No rush once you get there.
  24. you also might find something here http://www.lagunarealestate.com.au/noosa-holidays/noosa-holiday-accommodation depending on budget. I think you would need to allow for 2 to 3 weeks at least to get somewhere Dont know how many of you there are so apartment might suit or not. Its school holidays i think here for the next two weeks or so, so prices might be a bit high
